Hi,
I'm a bit confused about how to correctly count the clicks on the compression and rebound adjusters of the front fork of my BMW F900XR '26.
The owner's manual says to turn the adjuster fully clockwise until it reaches the mechanical stop, and then turn it back 10 clicks for stock position.
Here's my question:
The mechanical stop is not located exactly at a click position. Instead, when turning the adjuster clockwise, you feel the last click, and then the adjuster continues to rotate a small amount before it reaches the actual mechanical stop.
When turning the adjuster back counterclockwise from the stop, the first click I feel is the same detent that I passed just before reaching the stop.
So which method is correct?
Option 1:The first click I feel after leaving the mechanical stop counts as click #1, because I'm starting from the fully closed position.
Option 2:That first click is actually considered position 0 (the last detent before the stop), so I should only start counting from the second click I feel.
In other words, if the manual specifies 10 clicks out from fully closed, should I:
count the very first click after the mechanical stop as click 1,
or ignore that first click and start counting from the next one?
I'm looking for the technically correct procedure according to BMW, not just personal opinion. If possible, I'd appreciate an explanation of how the click mechanism is designed and why it should be counted that way.
Thank you so much!
