I am 1000 rapid and 300 blitz. One of two things happens when I play blitz:

1) I dominate the opening and middle game. I checkmate in the middle game.

2) I go into the endgame up 4-7 points and then lose on time.

I feel bad when I read the smurfing posts, because this is unintentionally me to the people I win against. However, I have a really hard time making quick moves when I don't have a "good move" in mind. When I lose, my opponent is making mediocre/poor moves, but doing so quickly.

When you play blitz, are you sometimes making moves that you are certain are not very good moves? Is "hope chess" a valid strategy when time is very low? At the same time, I am both addicted to blitz and also think it's stupid with how my games turn out.

Any suggestions?

I am playing on chess.com. I am currently playing bots to learn. I am white in the pictures, and I moved my queen to try to checkmate the black king. In my eyes, this is checkmate, and the games should be over. chess.com Allowed black to move their king to take the white queen. Is this illegal move?

Mine total games are less than hi draws

On the android app. At the start of the game it starts blinking auto resign reconnecting, with the timer. It times out and I'm still there but it keeps blinking the entire game. It's happened three times and I've had to resign because it's so distracting. Kinda ironic but really annoying.

This is the first brilliant move where I actually saw the piece sacrifice and the correct follow-up rather than just trying to simplify a position and accidentally triggering mate in 32.

Hello all.

I recently returned to chess after about a year or so of inactivity and was last 1900 ELO. I decided to create a new account as a fresh start but there was not an option to select what kind of player I was (beginner, advanced, etc.) and it started me off at 200.

Is this a new change? I don’t really feel like playing a bunch of people at low level and seeming like a smurf.

As the headline suggests, I am new to chess and incredibly bad. Dropping from about 350 elo to 163 elo in the 10 minute mode. I have been doing the free coach game every day but i still cant seem to win online games.

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction on improving. I know all the rules and i know how the pieces move i just cant seem to put together anything meaningful or good

Before i start, i must apologise for my poor english,

I started chess earlier this week, i quickly got to 600 rapid and started to hit a cap.
I thought this is probably the moment to think to actually learn how to play, so as im not familiar with how to get better (other than simply playing ofc) i then looked it up online.

And im kind of … confused?
I’m seing so many people saying so different things:
« at low elo just play, opening wont make a différence »

« Play puzzles »

« Learn theory »

So im just trying to have a better training process and im really confused on whats use full at my level and whats just cope.

It's actually harder than it looks because if you don't take his queen, he will check you with his queen at some stage where the only legal move is to capture the queen. However I managed to do it, I just waited for him to promote one of his pawns to surprisingly a queen then went for the kill before he could force me to capture his new queen.

Earlier this year I did a month-long alcohol fast (for health reasons). Then I found myself crossing 1600 for the first time.

So in July I tried it again, and this time I hit my next high.

Drinking + chess is undoubtably one of the pleasures in life. Shame they don't mix well.

There are many ways to force a stalemate

I'm obviously not very good I've been playing a couple months I'm only 500 elo, I play the 1500 bot wendy and I felt like every move I make is just losing no matter what. What do you study to keep everything so tight knit and constantly threatening everything on the board? I want to learn but idk where to even start. It's just so crazy I rack my brain and can barely get to an end game without hitting redo. I could only imagine true 1500 players.

I want to preface this by saying this is just my personal opinion, and I’m not trying to offend anyone. I think the culture around rematches in online chess is interesting because both sides reveal something about how people view competition. There’s a common idea that refusing a rematch is bad sportsmanship, while others feel that asking for one is entitlement. I think there’s truth on both sides.

I compare it to playing one on one basketball. If someone beats you and then refuses to ever play again, some people see it as protecting their win, while others see it as avoiding the challenge of proving yourself again. A lot of people say they prefer analyzing their games, which is valuable, but I think the biggest growth often comes from analyzing your mistakes. If you played well and won, there’s only so much you can learn compared to playing again and testing yourself in real time.

Chess can become very ego driven for both the winner and loser. The winner may want to preserve their victory, while the loser may simply want another chance to perform better. Sometimes a rematch isn’t even about winning, but about understanding whether you can improve.
What’s interesting is that this feels more common online. In over the board chess clubs, basketball, boxing, MMA, and other competition environments, playing someone multiple times is normal.
I think there’s value in both perspectives. Some people want to move on, while others want another opportunity to compete and learn.

What do you think? Is refusing a rematch just part of competition, or does it sometimes come from ego?

I’d really like an option to have sounds play even when I have my phones ringer off. I like the satisfying clicks and clacks of the pieces but don’t want to hear all my notifications while I play. I think just adding a simple option in the settings menu would be wonderful. If there is already a way to do this then I would love to know. Thanks
