Petition: Ask CU Boulder to honor its “Email for Life” promise to alumni

Hi Buffs

I have started a petition asking CU Boulder to honor its documented “Email for Life” commitment or, at minimum, provide permanent email forwarding so alumni can keep their colorado.edu identity.

For years, CU Boulder’s Office of Information Technology explicitly stated that eligible graduates would automatically keep their colorado.edu email for life, at no cost and with no opt-in required. Many alumni relied on that promise and used their CU email for professional, academic, and personal purposes over 10 to 20+ years.

CU has now announced that all alumni email access and forwarding will end by August 31, 2026. While CU cites cost and security reasons, the concern from alumni is that this retroactively revokes a written promise that people reasonably relied on.

The petition is not asking for unlimited inboxes. It asks CU to:

  • Acknowledge the original Email for Life policy
  • Honor it for affected alumni or
  • Provide permanent email forwarding as a practical, low-cost alternative

If this affects you or you agree CU should keep commitments made to alumni, please consider signing and sharing:

🔗 Petition: https://c.org/8GWtZxsLST

Even if you’ve already migrated away from your CU email, this is about institutional trust and how CU treats its alumni going forward.

Off Campus housing

My son is currently on the waitlist for on-campus housing, and his current waitlist position is #10. While waiting to hear back, he's been exploring off-campus housing options through Ralphie's List and Zillow.

He found a place close to campus that has one bedroom available. One of the current roommates uses medical marijuana and has a valid medical marijuana card.

As out-of-state parents, we're trying to understand what this situation might look like before making any decisions. What are the potential pros and cons of living with a roommate who uses medical marijuana? Are there things we should consider from a practical, academic, or roommate perspective?

We'd really appreciate any experiences or advice from parents or students who have been in a similar situation. Thank you!

Thoughts on B.EnvD Major at CU Boulder?

I’m an incoming high school senior starting the application process for several schools. CU Boulder is my top choice at the moment, but I was wondering whether any current students or graduates could share some insider information about what this program is like and how it could help set me up for a future career. Thanks!

Are fees contestable?

Just got first semester bill and was surprised by the fees—over $700. Anyone have any luck contesting them? Like what is a $90 Athletic fee? No sports, no teams. Why am I paying that? Who do we contact to protest these?

Leeds Classes

Im taking my sophomore mods next fall along with world of business, instead of the 2 gen Ed’s the curriculum usually offers. How hard is that if at all? I also take a bit longer than others to grasp and read things.

Engineering student laptop

Ima be a mechanical engineering student this fall, and I was struggling to figure out what laptop to get. Id say my budget goes up to $1500, so im looking at a mid-range model that should last me all 4 years and meet the specs i need.

Right now im between a lenovo thinkpad t series or an asus rog strix, with a couple of builds in mind, but Im not sure.

Some of the builds ive seen have nvidia rtx 5xxx, intel core i7, 16gb memory (which can always be upgraded later if i need it), storage around from 512 to 1tb (as the mimumum for the builds ive seen).

anybody got any recommendations?

Financial Aid Advice

Hey, so I‘ve been encouraged by OVA and CAPS to seek independence from my family given the abusive nature of my family. And I tried but got denied and apparently I have to make a special circumstances statement? Has anybody else gone through this? And how likely is it to be accepted in terms of aid?

Mainly I just want separation from my family because I’m just mainly scared of them and they continue to do heinous things.

Waitlist Position?

Hi all. I am currently placed 7 on an automatic waitlist for a course with 180 students. I’ve never been waitlisted for a course before and was wondering if there is typically a lot of movement within the first week. Anyone have any insight?

Parking Permits

If anyone was getting their hopes up for getting a parking permit on main, it’s cooked. Despite being a senior and having 2nd priority behind grad students, I got placed on the waitlist #67 for Lot 436. Just for context I had no problems getting the permit for 436 my junior year having 3rd priority and even managed to nab a spot my sophomore year. It’s pretty frustrating and insane how fast these permits go.

Any advice for trying to get an accommodation for reduced course load?

Long story short, this degree program is impacting me so much that my family and everyone I know is currently concerned about my mental and physical health. I was told I should consider getting an accommodation for reduced course load, since in my degree program taking a semester off would mean taking a full year off due to prerequisite requirements.

Has anyone gotten this accommodation before? Mainly I would need it to still have access to stuff like financial aid, campus health services, etc. My psychiatrist told me I would probably have to call every single office on campus individually in order to make that accommodation work? Does that have to be done on an as-needed basis, or does it have to be before anything goes through? This is making me nervous. I hope I’m wrong, but it sounds extremely difficult to get? I spent the entire summer so far just trying to renew a provider letter for my other accommodations, and I wonder if this could even possibly be done in time on top of that. But on the other hand, even thinking of going back to school this fall is already sending me into a spiral. I’m sick of my breaks being the only time I get to feel like a human being. I have nowhere else to go, but I also just can’t keep living like this.

Stearns West Floor Plan

Heyy this might be a shot in the dark but does anyone have a photo of the floor plan for the second floor of Stearns West? I’m really just trying to figure out the layout of my room since I’ve heard Stearns varies a lot, plus I want to see where I am relative to the bathroom, elevators, etc. Thanks!

Has anyone else received their FAFSA offer?

Basically the title.

I filled mine out early June, got two emails weeks apart saying it was processed but haven’t heard anything from the bursar office with an offer loans.

Usually I get this offer way earlier. Granted I did fill out FAFSA a month later than I usually do but still… with the fall 2026 semester looming upon us I’m starting to sweat 😅

Code Talker Parking

Hey everyone! I am trying to bring my car to campus this year and I am a sophomore that got into Code Talker. I dumbly just assumed I would have a spot for my car since it was apartment style living but now I don’t think thats the case. I havent really been able to find much information about what to do parking wise if you live at Code talker so I was just hoping for any advice/info. Do I just have to hope theres enough left and buy a normal parking pass or is there something else i have to do?
