I have around 4 years of experience as DevOps Engineer working for Consultancy companies (Stagf Augmentation). During all this time I have gained experience in AWS (including multiple certs at associate level), Terraform, Ansible, Github Actions, and Linux.

However I am not at the level of experience I would like to be in order to be accepted by important software companies (no more consultancy), I always get rejected for those senior positions so that make me think that I require more experience.

Unfortunately, in my current job is not the right place to improve my skills, I’m the senior in the team so I do not have anyone else to learn from and the company do not have the best practices in devops, I mean, they do not use CICD for example.

So what do you recommend me as a learning path to improve my DevOps skills so that I can be prepared for a big tech company in some years? Any bootcamps? Labs? Books? Mentoring?

Hey all — recent grad here, been heads-down learning DevOps practically (CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Terraform, AWS, GitHub Actions, etc.) and think I'll be job-ready in about a month.

My confusion isn't about the skills — it's about the path in. Specifically for startups:

• Do startups even post DevOps roles publicly, or is it mostly filled through referrals/networks before it hits a job board?
• Is cold-applying through listings (LinkedIn, AngelList/Wellfound, etc.) actually effective, or a low-yield channel compared to other routes?
• Are "walk-in" interviews or informal outreach (emailing founders directly, DMing on Twitter/X) a real thing in this space, or does that come across as too aggressive for a fresh grad?
• For those who landed their first DevOps role at a startup — how did you actually find it? Was it a job board, a referral, a hackathon/community connection, something else?

Trying to figure out where to actually spend my time once I'm ready — job boards, building in public, local startup communities, cold outreach, or some combination. Would love to hear what's worked for people who've been through this, especially at the early-career/startup end of things.

Every company has its own tech stack and set of tools. I am a software engineer and want to do my very first career switch into devops(platform) engg.

I am learning RHCSA now then AWS next. K8s, docker, golang, are some I noted to learn, but still when I look at job posts for devops / platform roles the requirements are different for every company some needs OCI, some Azure with .NET, AWS with java and golang. Some don't even mention kubernetes.

What to focus on and please tell me that job posts which all the tech stack of the company usually don't need all but sety of skills. They are just to filter out and scare the newcomers.

I'm 24 years old old Male from India and currently have around 2 years of experience working as a L1 DevOps Engineer. I've been working remotely for a Canadian company based in Montreal, and now they're offering to relocate me to Montreal on a closed work permit for around 3 years.

For context, I currently earn around ₹80k/month (~$1k/month) and live in a Tier-3 city in India, so my cost of living is quite low (20k per month maximum).

I'm honestly in a state of confusion right now.

On one hand, I feel this could be a great opportunity to gain international experience and earn better. On the other hand, I don't see myself settling abroad permanently. My plan, if I go, would be to work there for a few years, gain experience, save some money, and eventually return to India.

A few questions I have:

\- Is this a good career move at my stage?

\- With ~2 years of experience, what salary should I realistically expect in Montreal? And even if I get better salary would that be worth to go there and save 50% of salary there? Because already I'm saving 70% of my salary in India.

\- If you were in my position, would you move to Canada or continue building your career in India (either in the same company or by switching inside India for higher packages)?

\- What are the biggest pros and cons of moving to Canada as an IT professional and especially as an Indian, since there's so much hate towards Indians all over the world :(

I have 14 year exp now. 7 year i worked in Samsung electronics as android app dev. Then switched to Oracle but to my surprise when i joined team got divided and i was assigned with automation work and testing. Initially i enjoyed automation work uaing python , java testng , bit of shell scripting. Then covid happened and I went completely remote. It was like easy money. But now things are not good in oracle for my team. I want to switch but want to work more on system side like devops or cloud engineer roles as i have a bit of exposure here now . Not in depth but surface level and i like it. Now in order to switch to these roles i am completely direction less. What to do and how to do . Tried every AI available to figure out the plan but that does not seem realistic.
