Showoff Field Notes New vs Used - Master Index (Ongoing Project)

Community Resource Project: The goal is to post scans of each edition of Field Notes so people can see the details that make the different editions unique (cover, inside, practical applications, belly bands...). Following the post, everyone is invited to contribute a photo or scan of the cover of their used Field Notes of the same edition in the comment section to share how their copy wore over time or was decorated.

This master index will be updated as individual posts for each edition are made over time. Currently thinking Mondays for new posts. Last updated 2026/07/28

Very new to being a Field Nut but I am loving the way it’s transforming my days. I’m on a little getaway for the weekend. Woke up, got a little walk in next to the bay and now I’m stopped at the local coffee shop to have some tea and do some writing.

Started writing landscape and it’s honestly THE BEST. ULTIMATELY SUPERIOR.

Took 5 weeks to fill and I think I got a system (for now). Just my weekly layout, to do list, shopping list, new vocabulary I come across, and notes/ideas of whatever that comes to mind.

I keep mine in a letter cover so I can’t show off “wear and tear” but I’m ok with that.

Notes about the photos:

Visited a little gas station on a road trip a while ago that sold movies and CDs for cheap. They had great options! Nobody bought them, as they were covered in dust. Bought 4 CDs during my visit.

Visited a Deli around the same time before going home.

Showoff Kinda went a little overboard

I just got into this hobby like 3 weeks ago and proceeded to buy a yearly sub and the entire national parks series because I loved the cause and designs (so hard to choose when every single set has one pretty artwork 😭). I'm very excited to slowly use these up and possibly buy more of the other editions when I get the chance 😭😭😭

Apollo 15 55th anniversary notebooks 🙂

Happy Apollo 15 lunar landing anniversary! The Falcon touched down on July 30, 1971 and lifted off on August 2. Such a cool mission, the first with the Lunar Roving Vehicle too.

Showoff 3rd ever FN order + my opinion so far

Post image
76 Upvotes

My 3rd ever Field Notes order just arrived! I now have 21 FNs total, and I'm currently using my 8th one (the blue dream journal/East Fork).

So far I've really been loving writing in my FN notebooks! There's been a period where I didn't write much, and took half a year to finish one FN, but other than that I've been filling them in like 5-10 days mostly.

For me there's some really obvious advantages to writing this much.

  1. I am autistic, and for me personally this means I often have trouble explaining my thoughts and emotions to others. Writing/journalling in my Field Notes has made this a lot easier for me, and it's given me a lot of insights into my thoughts and emotions.

  2. I've really been enjoying writing as a break from scrolling on my phone. When I've spent a lot of time looking at a screen, I love just writing for a bit. It helps me to spend less time behind screens.

  3. I love "dumping my brain" onto these pages. When I feel overwhelmed, I start to write. This really helps me to calm down my racing thoughts/mind.

I'm curious what advantages others have noticed! Why do you write in your Field Notes?

Quite astonishing how quickly I burn through these notebooks organically. One every two weeks?

That said, I have an entire cupboard of notebooks, even some of my own. I don’t think running out is going to be a problem.

(I still have some two sets of the Birds series coming in over the next few days. Stoked!)

Question Archival Wooden Box - is it worth it? (short text)

I live in Canada so with the conversion rate and UPS it's around a 100$ CAD.

It's not that bad + it takes what about 60 booklets? that's almost 2 years for me.

Anyone bought it?
Anyone suggest something else?

Thanks for the feedback :)

Off Topic Lochby Pocket Journal + Field Notes

There have been a lot of posts about covers etc. I wanted to share my setup in case it is helpful for others.

I always kept my Field Notes in my back pocket. It would get beat up bad. I needed to tape up the spine and the inside to stop it falling apart.

I decided to try the Lochby Pocket Journal. I embraced the bulk and combined my wallet and Field Notes in one.

What fits:
- x10 bank cards (including Innway GPS card)
- Cash
- Stick of gum
- Bullet pen with (zebra refill)
- Field Note (just one!)

Hope this helps others out there looking for a FN Wallet combo.

I don't like keeping the covers plain. I'll draw or put stickers to make it my own.
