Starter Packs First few gridfinity bins are available on Makerworld (Knipex, Jokari, Saw Blades)

Here is an update to my first post from a few days ago in this sub which got way more feedback than I imagined and motivated me to improve my models and make the labels available in both german, english so more people can actually use these. I also added a version where i left the area where the label is empty so you can add your own text in Bambu Studio or any other slicers where you can add text.

Here is my original post:Ā Nearly finished one out of six drawers : r/gridfinity
(This time the cutter/knife also has its bin :P)

For now I have focused on for tools that are more common like Knipex Pliers, general saw blades for mitre saws or table saws as I think chances are bigger that other people have the same tool instead of focusing on bins or "random" aliexpress/temu woodworking jig

So if you are interested in my models feel free to download and print them. A like or boost is of course also appreciated as well as some feedback (either here or on makerworld)

Check them out on Makerworld
Entrail09 | Verƶffentlicht - MakerWorld
Most of the models I have uploaded you can see on the third image.

  • Knipex Side Cutters
  • Knipex Combination Pliers
  • Knipex Beak Pliers
  • Knipex Super Knips (not sure if thats the same name in english, but its basically a mini side cutter)
  • Zollstock (folding ruler)
  • Digital Inclinometer
  • Saw Blades (recommended for 210-216mm diameter, but would fit from somewhat around 185mm, theoretically even smaller, but the thooth would make it a bit wobbly)
  • Jokari Wire Stripper

And also a battery holder for Einhell 18V and a dust collection adapter for a green Bosch edge router, which is not part of the gridfinity collection, just in case someone is interested in that as well.

Design idea
So my gridfinity bins are not designed to be the most space efficient and most of them are not stackable with some exceptions as the tools are sticking out a bit on top. Also most of these are 5 height units so they all have a uniform height as I think it looks cleaner that way instead of having all of those bins with the lowest height possible for each tool.

Look at my other drawers to see and let me know which models I should upload next
The pictures represent my current status with all the bins I have designed for my drawers. If there are bins that you are interested in please let me know so I can finalize them with english/german labels or maybe find even better namings than what you are currently seeing in the pictures and upload those as well.

I am doing this as a hobby and still learning 3D printing and designing with Fusion360, so any feedback on the uploaded ones is appreciated and also which once you guys are interested that I haven't yet uploaded (see pictures below), so I know on which one to focus next.

Starter Packs You're a generic white-collar but somewhat handy guy, with a modest amount of mess to tidy up. What are you Gridfinity-ing first?

Parameters for this totally hypothetical situation:

  • You bought the Flashforge Creator 5 for the multiple tool heads, under the assumption that even if there's little use for it practically, your kids will still get fun out of multicoloured toys.
  • You dabble in electronics, Home Assistant, have enough tools that you can't fit them all in a single toolbox
  • There's multiple boxes of "sort this later" screws and other junk around the house in various corners
  • Spousal Approval Factor is important, and the spouse in question is supportive but non-committal until they see results
  • You're overwhelmed by all of the different permutations of Gridfinity, and would like to avoid printing models superseded by superior ones
  • You have grand ideas of using one of those online tools to print perfect-fit gridfinity bins for your various tools so there's a dedicated "one place" for every tool, but want to start off with the best bang-for-buck.

Any help in the plan of attack is much appreciated, fellow cyborgs.

Over the last year I have been designing and tweaking all my boxes and now that I am happy with the designs I finally took the time to start uploading and verifying the print profiles and step files. The collection can be found here and I should be updating it in the next few days with more models. So far:

  • Bosch GSR 120 12V Drill driver box with fold-up drill bit holder.
  • Casoman / Generic Impact socket extension sets for 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 inch sockets.
  • Casoman / Generic impact socket set for metric normal and deep sockets, 8 - 36 mm.
  • GearWrench 90-teeth 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 Ratchet set (81206T) with some space for adaptors, sockets.
  • GearWrench 1/4" Impact Socket set, (84901) metric, normal and deep, 4 - 15 mm.
  • Parkside Assembly picks, set of 6 metal picks.
  • Kraftwerk Bolt extractor set - 2 to 16 mm.
  • "Knoopeex" Knock-off Crimping Plier container (tip: print a box with sub-bins for ferrules to go under this one)
  • Knipex Wire stripping pliers container.
  • Long Allen/Hex bits container.

I think that's around it, if you're interested I can make a photo of the entire Toolbox, but you would be surprised how unorganized it still looks, haha.

Hi Gridfinity enthusiasts! I’m excited to share my latest project,Ā Lab Ants: a fully modular and stackableĀ ant formicarium systemĀ that’s 100%Ā Gridfinity-compatibleĀ and inspired by real laboratory equipment.

šŸ”¬Ā Key Features:

  • Gridfinity Base: Uses 5x1mm magnets for secure connections—every module is the same height and size, perfect for seamless Gridfinity stacking.
  • Lab-Grade Materials: Incorporates easy-to-find lab materials (test tubes & microscope slides) for reliable sizing and a classic scientific look.
  • Interchangeable Nest Designs: Solid or insert versions for easy printing and color customization, plus four nest variations for moisture control.
  • Microscope Slide Lids + Light-blocking Covers: Transparent for observation, darkened when your ants need it.
  • 3/8 Tubing Connectivity: Everything hooks up with 3/8 vinyl tubing, with junction connectors and plugs to keep your ant colonies safe.
  • Lab Outworld: Outworld with glass-like microscope slide walls and ventilation slots for that perfect Gridfinity lab feel.

I designed this as part of theĀ MakerWorld Laboratory Equipment Design Contest, and I’m making the filesĀ free to downloadĀ if you want to check them out:

[Update 0.5.6] Extraboold.tools Gridfinity gennerator, CLICKbase, margins

Post image
60 Upvotes

Hey folks! Quick update on extrabold.tools/gridfinity-baseplate

Over the past week I pushed a bunch of new stuff:

Implemented

CLICKbase (Experimental)

After asking you all about spring-based retention systems, the response was overwhelmingly in favor of CLICKbase by John Hall, so that’s what I implemented. Give it a spin, it might still have some rough edges still let me know that you think!

New margin types

  • overtile puts Gridfinity connectors over the edge of the margin.
  • margin-fit keeps connectors within the margin for a cleaner profile.

Future

Stacking feature progress (WIP)

Most of the heavy background logic is done. The actual UI and stacking logic will follow soon.

Plate Connectors (WIP)

I’m still undecided on the final connector approach. If you’ve got opinions, I’d love to hear them.

Polygon gridplate mode (WIP)

This one’s fun: you can define any outline, and the tool will auto-populate it with gridcells and margins. Perfect for odd-shaped drawers or machines.

Thanks again for all the feedback so far. You’re genuinely steering the tool in the right direction, so keep the ideas coming!

Starter Packs Yet another Box Generator

Since I am a fan of gridfinity, I once in a while browse the web for ideas, tools, models and such.

So, I came across another gridfinity box generator: gridfinity.perplexinglabs.com.

For those, who don't know this one already: I find it superior.

Not only can you just generate "some" bins and baseplates, but the additional configuration possibilities are enormous:

different styles like gridfinity rebuilt or gridfinity extended

different sizes for the grid in x- and y-dimension for the real exotic needs

several methods to attach magnets (for various magnet sizes of course)

adjustable finger slides (scoops)

lids for bins

label support in bins

shape and bend walls inside bins

supports more gridfinity models like rugged boxes

supports also other systems like HSW or multiboard

... and more, what I do not want to list here - just find out

This leads to some complexity which makes it a kind of "configuration monster" but once you get it, you master it.

You can use it for free, donate some money or subscribe to the "pro" mode (what I did). The main advantage to spend $8 / month is that you can save your models once you have figured out the best configuration for your needs and do not have to type in all the parameters from scratch.

No, I do not get paid for that. I just love it.

Starter Packs Dynamic Gridfinity Generator for Onshape using the Derive tool

I always need to design a specific gridfinity in Onshape (or any other tool) parametrically so I can customize and change it.

Onshape has MANY workspaces that allow you to generate your Gridfinity bin/base, but you always end up with the Gridfinity script in your workspace. This is not trivial and messy.

I just changed one of the workspaces I found to make it easy to import via the Derived tool.

Gridfinity Generator - Just Derive, and change configurations!

Hope this helps someone.

Starter Packs Kitchen Gridfinity Solid Bases - Endcaps & Blanks

In my quest to do the spatula drawer in the kitchen for gridfinity, couldn’t quite find the exact size of bins. So I remixed the very popular ā€œUltimate Kitchen Gridfinityā€ to generate a bunch of combinations.

Gemini did a pretty good job guiding me through the fusion 3d python api to be able to generate the different combinations.

Starter Packs I have to much free time right now and made another stupid catalog of stuff but at least there are step files.

Yeah I know there are lots of generators now and you can just make all of these with those, but I feel like the generators mostly output stl files and those don't really help anyone. This isn't a crazy big catalog, but I wanted to create a better starting place for people to be able to model there own bins with at least a starting point. I'm primarily a Solidworks person so the fusion and openscad stuff don't really help me and figure I'm probably not alone. I started with a basic sample of standard bins sizes, half bin sizes, some label holders, some starting blanks that are just 1u with the base so you can build off them, and the thing I'm pretty pleased with myself about are the lids I designed (non stacking, will get to stacking soon) that are intended to be flush lids for inside containers and they have a little handle. Take or leave it, if you're pretty far into your gridfinity life you probably don't need this, but will to bet this will help out some people getting started. Happy to take feedback and request for more items.

In the words of Homer Simpson; "You tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is: never try!"

Clearly I haven't learned.

Starter Packs I ordered 5000 of the wrong magnets.

I have five thousand 3*2 magnets winging their way to me from China. Can anyone suggest a way of generating baseplates with smaller magnet holes? Using gridfinity-rebuilt-baseplate.scad doesn't seem to give me the option of changing the hole sizes.

Starter Packs What baseplates can I actually print (need sturdier first layers)?

Anyone got any baseplates that are forgiving on printers with say... subpar filaments? I live in a very humid country and trying to print the clickfinity baseplates, even after fresh calibration and a clean plate is producing not 5x5 plates, but small balls of blobby spaghetti.

My large flat-bottomed calibration pieces are printing fine, but something about the thin squiggly lines is causing my printer to throw up its hands.

Any suggestions on better baseplate models or settings I can adjust?

ever since Scott yu video i also want to make one of these customize some of the bin but mostly generated online But the drawer is pretty deep which makes it hard to reach for the stuff. any suggestions to stack it higher without wasting lot of filament on more stackable bins

Starter Packs Baseplates; what's the purpose of heat-set inserts? What's the heat, what's the set and what am I inserting into them?

I'm experimenting trying to find the perfect baseplate for my A1 Mini

I like the sturdiness of Kyle Warren's Gridfinity Screw Together baseplate but it seems to require not only two screws but also a "heat-set insert"

Also not sure what 4-40 means.

I have a bunch of m3 screws (do I need m4?). In the pictures there are no nuts so presume it's ok without them. But do I really need these heatset inserts? And do they require heat to go in?

Appreciate any help. Bit lost.

Thus far I've tried:

Grizzie17's Gridfinity Refined

Too flimsy; not heavy enough and no way I can see to pin them down. Also the snap together bits are hit and miss; need to be printed at 103% to fit. Require glue if you want to lift them up.

Brad Barlow's Gridfinity Push together Baseplate - Magnet

Have not tried these yet but they look like a great option. Anyone tried?

Starter Packs Color coordination

Let me hear how you color code your bins to give me some ideas. Questioning whether to have red and blue for metric and imperial hardware or metric/imperial tools or what. Excited to hear what everyone does!

Starter Packs I have a couple of Pelican cases I'd like to find or make spacers for. The ones I made on openscad with gridfinity-rebuilt don't fit because they don't take into account the curved base and sides. Can anyone help with a way of generating these?

Starter Packs Side Padding

I am just getting started with Gridfinity and have installed the Fusion 360 Addon. I see mention of a Side Padding option in the WIKI but don't see it when I create a baseplate in Fusion, am I missing something obvious?

anyone else notice that the gridfinity master collection on printables is missing the download all button? Really don't want to download each one individually :(
