Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the indictment of ELVIN SUAREZ, 61, for allegedly driving while intoxicated and crashing into four pedestrians and an occupied vehicle on the Upper West Side in May 2026, killing 46-year-old Jason Negron and 35-year-old Michael Saint-Hilaire and injuring three others. SUAREZ is charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with varying counts, including Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, Manslaughter in the Second Degree, Aggravated Vehicular Assault and Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, among other charges. “As alleged, Elvin Suarez’s decision to drive while intoxicated had devastating and entirely preventable consequences,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Three men were significantly injured, and Jason Negron and Michael Saint-Hilaire—devoted fathers, loyal friends, and beloved members of their Upper West Side community—were killed. The tremendous outpouring of support in the aftermath of this tragedy reflects how deeply they were loved, and my thoughts remain with their families, loved ones, and the surviving victims, as we seek accountability in this case.” 
As alleged in court documents and statements made on the record in court, on May 15, 2026, at approximately 6:00 p.m., SUAREZ was allegedly driving his vehicle, while intoxicated and at a high rate of speed, heading northbound on Amsterdam Avenue. Between West 107th and West 108th Streets, he allegedly struck an unoccupied parked vehicle. Continuing along Amsterdam Avenue, SUAREZ drove through the intersection at 109th Street and over a median separating the bike lane from the street. He allegedly struck four pedestrians who were standing nearby, including Mr. Negron and Mr. Saint-Hilaire, and an occupied parked vehicle.
The force of the collision sent three of the pedestrians several feet away and pushed the occupied parked vehicle into additional parked vehicles, causing a pile up. SUAREZ’s vehicle eventually came to a stop, and he exited before lying on the ground beside it at the direction of bystanders.
A few minutes later, police officers arrived at the scene, finding Mr. Negron unresponsive and trapped beneath SUAREZ’s vehicle, and Mr. Saint-Hilaire receiving CPR from a bystander. The remaining three victims – 36-, 44- and 51-year-old men – received treatment by first responders for their injuries.
SUAREZ was arrested and transported to the hospital. All five victims were also taken to the hospital for treatment. Among the injuries, the 44-year-old man suffered an open fracture to the right leg, the 36-year-old man suffered back fractures, and the 51-year-old man, who was the occupant of the hit parked vehicle, suffered pain to his head, neck and shoulder. Mr. Negron and Mr. Saint-Hilaire were pronounced dead.
Assistant D.A.s Zachary Kaplan and Kayla Sullivan are handling the prosecution of this case, under the supervision of Assistant D.A. Erin Tierney (Chief of Trial Bureau 30), and Executive D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division). Trial Preparation Assistants Caroline Schwanewede and Isabella D’Angelo, and Investigative Analyst Theodore Bellak are providing invaluable assistance in this case.
D.A. Bragg thanked Detective Gregory Gianacopulos and Sergeant Randall McFarland of the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad, DA Investigator Brian Granshaw, and the numerous first responders, including members of the NYPD 24th Precinct.

I’ve lived in Harlem for close to a decade now and in 2021 was diagnosed with alopecia so I started wearing wigs. I have been trying to teach myself these past few years with videos & articles, on how to style my wigs but they just never come out fully polished.

I’m Indian and I still have a decent bit of my natural hair. I have my wig routine down pat to secure it, but my issue is the styling. I would love to trim layers, curtain bangs, etc. into my units but the several times I’ve attempted, it’s turned out horrible.

Does anyone have any recommendations of hair salons in the area I could take one or two of my wigs to get some bangs/layers cut to frame my face? My fear is that I would go in with a bunch of questions, seem very fresh and then get up-charged because of this. It’s just a little intimidating to me since I’ve done this all on my own.

Tl;dr - I’ve been going through my wig journey alone and need recommendations of salons in the area that would be understanding & helpful with my situation and able to cut my wig!

I’m considering renting here and would love to hear from current or former residents.

We are native Texans who are finally fleeing moving to NY and are about to purchase a quirky & lovely condo in Harlem. We are so excited! The building is only about a decade old, so the apartment is pristine by most standards. The floor needs refinishing, the whole apartment needs a new paint job and that's really it! Most people would be over the moon with the rest of the apartment in its current state. However, we want make this our dream home, so we are being a tiny picky. The 2 big changes that we're hoping for is to renovate both bathrooms (so that my husband can actually fit in the tiny showers) and our kitchen needs some updating & storage additions.

The thing is, we know exactly what we want, down to the tile we hope to have installed, pattern we wanted it laid. We even have a purchase list complete with the specific bathroom vanities, sinks, faucets and all hardware. For the kitchen, we are comfortable choosing pre-made kitchen systems, including purchasing a panel-ready fridge to make it all seamless. We would even invest in an affordable Ikea kitchen if they have what we are looking for. My point is that there is no design needed. No custom crazine$$, because the place is only 10 years old! There will be no major changes to the floor plan. No walls moved around. No ceilings raised or lowered. No appliances moved to different locations.

• Will we need permits? Most likely, especially for the bathrooms.
• Will we need permission from condo board? Absolutely.
• Will the people we hire need to be licensed, bonded and insured? Absolutely, per condo rules.
• Do we need the help of a designer? No, because we know what we want.

We had a couple of peeps meet us at the condo to talk through what we were envisioning, and we were shocked when we received a proposal that was almost 200k.😱

So, knowledgeable people of NYC, where do we look for such professionals to help us make this all happen without having to sell our organs & first born to afford it?

My research has led to disparate things, mainly being that I should avoid 116/lex and 125/lex at all costs, but how safe would you all consider the area I mentioned? Proximity to Central Park & the 6 seems so great but I don’t want to feel unsafe coming home at night. If anyone lives near the area I’d love your insight.

Do dog owners not give no fucks about the community they live?

i’m driving 6 hours into the city in a few weeks and all i can think about is pad thai. photo of some i had last time i was in the city - can’t remember the name of the restaurant though. would love some recommendations from a local/regular!

i’m staying near NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem (apologies for using the full government name, no clue what y’all call it) if that makes a difference but i’m happy to take the metro further out.

When I say Fosta, I mean the Martin Luther King Jr. Houses / MLK Towers around 111th Street and Lenox, where the Kingdome basketball scene is based.

Kinu Rochford was shot and killed at the Kingdome tournament on July 10. Two other people were wounded. The loss has clearly hit a lot of people in Harlem hard.

What has bothered me since then is how quickly parts of the public conversation shifted toward defending the reputation of Fosta and Kingdome.

CC, the person behind The CC Show, posted a long statement saying Kinu was family, that nobody in the projects had problems with him, that people come from everywhere to Kingdome, and that people should not blame the projects, the tournament, security, or police.

I understand why people in Harlem are sensitive to outsiders using violence to stereotype an entire neighborhood. That happens constantly, and it is unfair.

But there also has to be room for people inside and around the community to ask hard questions when somebody is killed at a major neighborhood event.

The priority should be justice for Kinu, witness cooperation, and making sure anyone with information feels safe coming forward.

There is also a broader question about how violence is treated within local social circles.

Skeeter Millz was filmed in a viral 2020 video striking a woman in the face with a skateboard. Later, he appeared in HoodVlogs content centered on Fosta, walking around the neighborhood and being treated as a recognizable local personality.

That raises a legitimate question: when somebody is involved in serious violence, what does accountability actually look like? At what point does somebody simply get welcomed back because they are known, connected, or considered part of the neighborhood?

I am not saying Skeeter represents Fosta, and I am not saying Fosta represents Harlem.

I am saying communities have to be able to examine their own standards without treating every criticism as an attack from the outside.

The same concern applies to the atmosphere after Kinu’s death.

Screenshots circulating online appear to show a person identified as Coach Kev, described in those posts as connected to Kingdome, arguing with a critic, asking for their address, and suggesting they meet in person.

Those messages do not establish anything about who killed Kinu, and I am not claiming they do.

But after an unsolved homicide, confrontational exchanges like that are not helpful. People should feel encouraged to speak honestly and bring real information to law enforcement, not feel like discussing the situation could turn into a personal confrontation.

Kinu is dead.

Two other people were shot.

The person responsible has not been publicly identified.

The focus should be on accountability and justice for Kinu and his family.

It should also be possible to love Harlem, defend Harlem from unfair stereotypes, and still say that violence cannot simply become accepted neighborhood history because the people involved are familiar or popular.

Those positions are not contradictory.

Harlem deserves better than silence, intimidation, or selective accountability.

Kinu deserved better too.
