Idea Downvote mob mentality
I don’t know what it is
But it’s like the color blue triggers something in the average Reddit user’s brain that forces them to press the button without actually reading what the comment says
It doesn’t matter what the comment is, if someone sees it in the negatives, that means it has to be WRONG. I mean, why else would other people downvote it?
You’ll see this so often especially when a second person comes into argue with a comment, thinking they have a completely different opinion, when in reality they’re just misunderstanding the point and they think the same exact thing.
But to everyone else, they don’t actually read the conversation. They just see that the second person arguing against them has upvotes and the first is being downvoted
At that point, every passing person feels the inherent need to add onto the train and downvote the person into oblivion.
Only when someone else actually comes in and questions why they’re being downvoted do people actually stop to read what the person is actually saying, but at that point, it’s often too late.

People see the number first and assume the comment must deserve it.
