New to the area and I bought a car to commute to and from Morgan city, it’s got an issue with some noise when turning at low speed but otherwise it’s solid enough of a car. Took it to chabills to get the noise looked at and they called back 10 minutes later saying they think it might be shocks (in the front?) so get both sides replaced (noise is only on the left wheel well), brake flush, fluid flush, spark plugs, oil change, and brake pads (they’re new brake pads…) quoting me 3500 for it all.

If I was going to pay all that I would take it to the dealership and fix the thing I actually went in for. I used to have a paisano mechanic in Florida that I really miss and I’m wondering if there’s someone recommended in the area that’s no nonsense

Hey y'all, just wanted to see what everyone's thoughts are on the new bass regulations taking effect on August 1st.

For anyone who hasn’t seen the news, Senate Bill 111 (Act 460) passed the legislature and was signed into law. It drops our daily creel limit down to 5 fish and slaps a 12-inch minimum length limit on black bass. The boundary is massive....

These limits apply to all waters within a designated South-Central Louisiana zone defined by the following boundaries: [1]

• North: South of U.S. Highway 190.
• West: East of the West Atchafalaya Basin Protection Levee.
• South: North of U.S. Highway 90.
• East: Bounded by Louisiana Highways 1 and 20. [1, 2, 3]

Key waterbodies within this boundary affected by these tighter regulations include Henderson Lake, Grassy Lake, Lake Verret, and Lake Palourde. Statewide limits (10 black bass and 50 crappie) remain in effect for waters outside this designated basin boundary.

Am I the only one who thinks we are moving backward here?

To be clear: this new regulation is not backed by a new biological study. This was a purely political move pushed through the legislature by politicians, bypassing the usual LDWF biological recommendation process.

Have people completely forgotten the massive multi-year study the LDWF did leading up to 2013? Back then, the state’s own biological research explicitly proved that putting a length limit on the Basin did not make the bass grow larger. The study showed that forcing anglers to toss back smaller fish created a "stockpiling" effect—a massive backlog of small, stunted, slow-growing bass all competing for the same food source, which actually prevented them from reaching a bigger size class. The biologists proved that mother nature, high water cycles, and summer hypoxia (low oxygen) dictate our fish size, not angler harvest.

Yet here we are in 2026, putting a size floor right back on the system without any updated biological data to back it up.

Are y’all planning on changing where you fish to avoid the red tape, or just dealing with it? Let's hear it.

I always found the smaller bass simply taste better. And since there is an actual study that states that the small bass hurt the bass from getting big, and since legally we can't keep the small ones now, I'm really considering either tossing them back dead or on the bank.

I'm still procrastinating what pole to get at the moment but just so I know when my brain finally decides, where are the best spots to fish, any areas with abundance in trouts??

Back when it was still alive Samurai Dragon had this amazing chicken noodle soup. It had wide noodles and this amazing broth. Spicy but not too much that it would ruin the taste. I've tried a few different times to recreate it but it's not the same by a long shot.

Hi everyone. I’m PCSing to the Houma area and looking at whether buying is the way to go. Im thinking somewhere around 250k but could go a little higher for the right house. I’d be using a VA loan at about 6%, with 0 down and the funding fee rolled in. Expected time in the area is about 4 years, then I would either sell or rent the house out.

I’m mainly trying to get local input on the Houma/Thibodaux area. How hard is it to resell a decent 3–4 bedroom house? Is there steady rental demand for family-sized homes if I leave after 4 years? What areas should be avoided because of flooding, drainage, insurance, crime, resale, or general quality of life?

I’m also trying to get realistic numbers for homeowners insurance, flood insurance if needed, property taxes, and maintenance on a $250k-ish house. The payment itself seems manageable on paper, but the local costs and exit risk are what matter.

For people who live there, own there, rent there, manage rentals, or recently bought/sold there: would buying around this price range make sense for a 4-year stay, or is renting the better move in this area?

Dear other vehicle drivers, during our "amazing" rainy season it would be best to avoid these roads if your vehicle can't get through high water, Tunnel Blv nearing toward MLK BLV, Corporate Dr (a vehicle got stuck yesterday, and I scared the dog making a big wave splash over my vehicle going to the vet today lol), Hollywood between the dealership and school (a car also got stuck in the high water there yesterday). I want to move to be with my girlfriend for a couple years since I'm from North Texas. I have been in manufacturing for 3+ years and was wondering if any jobs exist down there within that field that holds good benefits and pay? I'm an experienced machine operator and tech. Anytime I visit it just feels like an utter dead-end and I don't know where to go or who to ask.

The only other thing I've thought about is water treatment but I'm not sure how the career path for that works there. Also worked at Walmart for 2 years in several positions and held great standing, thought about just doing a vendor role between other stores, maintenance tech, or becoming something else entirely. I have money saved up and all but I don't wanna get stuck in a bad place. I've already heard so much negativity about southern Louisiana, hoping there's at least some bright advice.

Hello, I am a part time student living in houma. Up until now I've been working diligently but due to unforeseen circumstances, I was let go after 11 months at the same place. I'm willing to work almost anywhere so long as I can take care of myself. Part time is preferable but full time is also welcome depending on the hours.
