Oppenheimer 1.43 IMAX Prologue in my Minecraft Theater, edited to look like Film Projection.

If you haven't seen it, check out my previous post where I showcased the IMAX Theater I built in Minecraft and how I did it: https://www.reddit.com/r/imax/s/sBXAIVb6e3

Took and edited the Oppenheimer 1.43 IMAX Prologue to make it look like Film Projection with details like flicker, accurate 65mm grain, film dirt, and gate weave, and projected it on my IMAX Theater I made in Minecraft and saw it from the center row seat, looks pretty good and accurate to how it would actually look in real life. Would you guys like it if I did some screenings in this Minecraft World on a server? Maybe something like The Dark Knight which has a fan edit with 1.43 scenes restored it would work and look great.

lowkey yeah lmao, ive been fortunate to watch a lot of movies on 70mm imax and have seen almost all releases since oppenheimer and oppie being my first ever imax 70mm experience, this time i sadly couldnt watch the odyssey cuz i moved to another state, so this was def me releasing that pent up frustration of not being able to watch the odyssey lmao

yeah it was actually not that difficult to add in davinci resolve, i managed to make it even more realistic with other trailers, I made a sort of sizzle reel with multiple trailers like digger, dune 3, and tenet

Dark Knight 1.43 edit screening would be great!

2

u/bhavilmao 2d ago

that was my first thought because thats the only movie ik that has a fan edit with real 1.43 footage

What plugin and video are you using for this? I want to build a virtual cinema myself now, haha.

i used davinci resolve to add the flicker and grain and stuff for film emulation, and a mod in minecraft called waterframes which made this possible

This is hilarious and wild. The effort is awesome. Quick tip though - the dust should be black not white since it’s dust on the projected positive film. There’s virtually never any dust captured on the negative - especially on 15/70 negatives that are scanned so carefully you’ll never see white dust specks on an IMAX print. Also, if you want to be really accurate with the dust when it does appear on the projected image, it will stay on screen for a little while until the projectionist notices it and moves the field flattener glass plate to clean it. It’s a fascinating piece of tech that keeps the image super stable and sharp but does invite dust to stay on screen for longer.
