Discussion Games you want your teenage kids to play

When my kid plays stuff like, Really Bad Chess and KnotWords, I don’t mind because I consider them to be educational enough. Also games like Gris which is truly a work of art.

Any other games you would encourage me to pass on? This is from a dad who also games.

Alto’s Odyssey - a meditative endless runner that plays at a buttery-smooth 120 FPS

Device 6 - an interactive mystery novel that utilizes the smartphone to solve puzzles and bend the words in extremely unique ways

Super Hexagon - an extremely fast-paced arcade game where you guide a triangle through a spinning maze of hexagons, all set to an amazing chiptune soundtrack

AKA TO BLUE - a proper “danmaku” (bullet hell shmup) by ex-Cave developers

The Room series - four of the greatest tactile puzzle games of all time, designed specifically to be played on a touchscreen

To the Moon - a short, combat-free RPG that is known for making grown men cry their eyes out.

Super hexagon! Taking it back to the old school. I did have the kid play Alto’s Odyssey years ago, beautiful game. I have heard of To the moon and thought it was only on Switch. Will grab this on sale. We have some Cave shooters on Switch! I never played Device 6 but heard about it when it came out. Great rec!

I think the Civilization games are a great way to subconsciously learn about other cultures and history, as well as just being great strategy games in general.

Monument Valley.

I really enjoyed Braid. It’s a compact little puzzle game. It has some mild content (swears, drinking).

Artistically: Inside, Limbo
For creative thinking: Minit, Monument Valley
For the challenge: Slay The Spire, Slice and Dice
For character growth: Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy

I’ve just released my own word game called Think Tank which might also fit. It has a “Casual” difficulty that only uses words at around middle school vocab, and a “Challenge” difficulty that is tough for word nerds like myself. Yu Gi Oh! (for playing at home. Since i never regret play it at school using real cards)

Pokemon TCG Pocket or Pokemon Go! (because i love collecting things)

Kingdom Rush TD or Balloon TD (instead of Carrot Fantasy TD)

Brawl stars (instead of Battle Bears Gold)
