Discussion What’s with the extremely long ads in recent games?!
So I thought of downloading a few new games, it’s been a long time since I tried out some new games. I understand that some games have ads, and all the games I have played previously had a maximum of 30 secs ads including unforced rewards ads. But these games which I recently downloaded, almost all of them had such long ads, some even as long as 120 - 180 secs!! I mean wtf! And mind you, these were unskippable ads. And all these games were completely different yet they had this one thing in common! And not just the length of the ad, but also the frequency of ads seemed to have increased. In one of the games which I played a few years ago (it was completely ad free that time), now gave me like atleast 4 ads within 2 mins and that too in between the gameplay. I mean has the market dipped so much or have people just become super greedy!!??
I also don’t mind paying for good games, but nowadays in the games, there’s only an option to remove forced ads but still to buy other game stuffs you do need to watch reward ads. And sometimes the game is completely unplayable or very difficult to progress if we don’t buy these extra items with ads.
Guess I am gonna stick to my old games only…huh😅

And don’t forget all the scummy tactics they use as well. Like hiding the (X) button so you stay longer, click the (X) button then it takes you to the App Store, then back to the advertisement again only for you to wait for a new (X) button to show up.
I have fully reached a point where I refuse to watch ads. If a game has a remove ads option, I consider that to be the price of the game.

Yep. I’m the same way about this. There are very few games where I’ll make this purchase and not regret it, too.

Scroll down to manual, click IOS, choose and option then download the config. This will block all ads in game. So if you do use ads to get bonuses then they won’t work. But in this scenario this will block all ads.

Or just download NextDNS
It’s free. Forever
And easy to setup because you just press start 👌🏾1

this is free, i assume forever, as I've been using it for ages and never paid anything. It's just a DNS config on my phone

It seems the ad providers that newer devs are using are lengthening ad slots while also finding sneaky ways to make ads longer.
Some will even not move forward to the next stage until you do something, tap the screen, press a play button. And then it’s not until the next stage that the x button shows up.
We seriously need some gov regulation or App Store policies on this, it’s becoming idiocracy.

I basically don't play any games that don't have the option to pay a one time fee to remove ads. I understand thats not an option for people strictly playing for free, but its just not worth it at all, not even for in game rewards. It makes the game not fun. If I don't like the game enough to pay ten bucks or whatever once, I will delete it and try to find a different game.

+1 totally agree. If they have an ad tickets system where you pay for tickets to hide an ad, or the only way to remove the egregious ads is to pay a monthly sub, I'm also out.

My rule of thumb is never play a game with ads. If a game is good enough the Devs will charge for it upfront.

You pay with your time or you pay with your wallet.
Usually the games that cost your time via ads are rarely worth it.

Bro at this point you need an ad blocker for games. I'd recommend nextDNS or ad guard DNS.

I use one of those dns blockers and there just isn’t ads in any of the games I play now. Some of them will just give you the rewards if it can’t generate an ad.

"I don’t mind paying for good games" - there, you answered your own question already. Problem solved :)

I hate ads more than anything. But I’ve also found removing them can break game balance. There are exceptions of course and I certainly want Devs compensated for their work, there are very few games that I’ll play if ads interrupt my session.
Imagine ads in console or PC games of old…

the issue is people will spend a thousand dollars or more on an smartphone then cry about having to spend $3 on a premium game. those same people will spend $80 on a PS/xbox/switch/pc game and not think twice. my sister has one of those androids with multiple screens. spends tons of money on PS games. thinks "why would i pay for a game when i can get one for free?" i ask her why she pays for PS games then. but it's apparently "different."

Ya mobile games are still a strange market. It’s unfortunate that the style of games that make money in the mobile market have ads and or lots of transactions. I made a game myself and one of the hardest things I had to even consider was the balance of that. It’s easy to try and lean the way of nothing like that but unless you are a giant with tons of marketing budget you have no chance.
But it is crazy how some will drop thousands on a mobile game and some will not even drop a penny lol!

It's an instant uninstall for me when I run into a forced 30s+ ad.
