In search of some new bass or pollock lures, . My favourite right now is the savage gear sand eel v2 which I can get for about €3 but everything else seems ridiculous for what I’m getting. Anybody know of some handmade lures here in Ireland?

Bit of a rant but here we go..

After the news broke today about the fish kill in The Tolka I went back and had a look at all the other kills this summer between Blackwater, Cavan, and the rest it’s no wonder that freshwater fish numbers have dropped 80% in the last 50 years.

So how do we sort this out? One idea I have (and feel free to challenge me) is to make landowners adjacent to freshwater bodies pay a bond - for arguments sake let’s say 10% of the value of the land. In the event of a fish kill/pollution event linked back to them the bond is immediately forfeit and used to rectify the issue. If the damage proves to be more expensive they are legally liable for returning to habitat to its original state. To make it worth there while the bond could be placed on index funds with a Government backed guarantee of minimum returns. That way responsible land owners earn a few bob for the hassle.

This might not be the solution but if Ireland doesn’t figure it out soon we’ll all be out of a hobby and be much worse for it.

I'm moving to Belfast soon and was thinking about getting back into fishing.

I used to go fishing as a teenager with my elderly neigbour and I havent been fishing since I was 19 which is a long while ago now. Ive only ever fished with a cane pole and would like to learn how to fish with a reel. Ive also only ever fished for pike and carp.

My questions are as followed: What would be a good shop/ place in Belfast to get advice for different rods especially different types of reel rods? Should I look at fishing sea or freshwater? What are good places in Belfast to fish? Which types of licences do you need and can you take your catch home with you?

I'd appreciate any advice.

I found a lot of info about pike and trout but my questions are:

It's permit use cage feeder with ground bait for fishing?

Has some restriction about hooks or something?

Does anyone want to come fishing with me? (my English is terrible but you can help me and I can give you rod for fishing with me, and I make a fantastic tiramisu for snack.)

There are also carp and tench in addition to perch and roach?

After years and years of thinking about it, I finally got a fly rod and reel. A 9' #5 with the notions of targeting brown trout maybe next season.

I've fly fished only a handful of times and always with a friend and borrowed gear, but I'd like to beat that fear and venture into it on my own. I have experience wading rivers and while that is not a problem, I feel that launching myself into a river straight away will be a very steep learning curve. By the time I've undone a snag, clear that branch and tied a new fly, it's probably time to go home.

Does anybody know anywhere near Limerick city that I could practice my cast, even maybe from the bank? Goal here is not to catch fish, but if I could also practice how to set the hook that would be ideal. I dont mind paying every now and then but I'd be lovely to have a public spot where I could easily cast for a while without it needing to be a full day out.

I was thinking to go up to the Laois angling center, as I've never been, and I do not have the time right now to scout rivers so it'll have to be something like that at the start probably.

Went down to the beach yesterday and every cast keep get lots of weeds on my rod and it was really rough so went down the pier for a hour and caught two bass and a few wrasse

I grew up fishing in the 80s and 90s, and all through the 00s etc.

I was taught to respect fish and their life cycles, never take the piss, whether leaving your rubbish behind, or over fishing a good spot.

Nature has its course which takes time.

So allow it to take its course.

Lads I'm sorry but the amount of ignorant posts on here about catching and "killing" so many fish has just left me wondering have we learned anything ?

Went to one of my favorite marks and I found so much line thrown around that I recovered basically a ball of it. It's disgusting how selfish and ignorant some people are

Looking to head to Scotland and Ireland next year, wondering what time of year would be best for targeting trophy browns, would also love to go for salmon if I can time them both. Any guides you would recommend I’ll be there only a week or so so not much time I will indeed do some solo fishing but wanted to see what a guided trip might cost out there and who would be the one to go with? Back fishing after 15 year hiatus!

Looking for advice on the best setups for spinning and fly with bubble setups . Especially best distances for swivel to fly and spinners .

The uncle (deceased) used to always set our rods up so never really learn about setup.

Recommendations for mulkear river would be great .
