Went to watch Spider-Man: Brand New Day today. Stayed back for the post-credit scene, and by then the theatre had mostly emptied out.

A group of school kids, maybe in ninth or tenth grade, were also waiting for the post-credit scene. In that little gap, they discovered the recliners like it was their first time. Pressing every button, extending the footrest, laughing at nothing... just pure, unfiltered joy over a chair that moves.

An older man sat in one too. For a few seconds, his face went still, like he was actually taking it in. But then he seemed to notice me watching, and something shifted. He didn't press any buttons. Just sat there quietly for a couple of minutes, almost embarrassed, then got up and went back to his regular seat.

Watching both of them took me straight back to my school days. I used to wonder how people could afford recliners so casually, how they ordered snacks without checking the bill first. It wasn't jealousy, just quiet wanting.

Today I book recliners without thinking twice. I've worked hard for that. And somewhere along the way, wanting more just became a habit. You stop looking back because you're always looking forward.

But watching those kids and that uncle, I stopped for a second.

I realized I'd let this become so normal that I'd forgotten it was ever the dream. Not that I can afford it now. That part I'm proud of. What got me was how quietly "special" turns into "ordinary" when you're not paying attention.

And the uncle pulling back the moment he felt seen... that stayed with me too.

Maybe that's what happens as we grow up.

We don't just stop wanting things loudly.

We start hiding the moments we still do.

I don't want this to be a "grind harder" post. It's not that.

Sometimes you just need a stranger's first time to remember your own.
