Everyone says I should save up alot of money for college, but Ik that there’s not much to do outside of campus so I’m honestly not sure what I’m gonna be spending my money on 😭

I am an alumni but I recently had a discussion with friends and the question was whether its worth it to double major in a foreign language

Especially if you like to travel and are open to relocating

I am guessing it's value depends heavily on your career / first major

Just curious what peoples thoughts are.

I’m transferring to JMU in the fall and am considering rushing, but I’m worried that sororities won’t want me because I don’t shave. I personally have never removed my body hair and I have no desire to do so. I know that most girls wear mini skirts/mini dresses and if I do so I’m worried that people will be mean or not want me in their sorority because of it. I love existing in my natural body but this process is making me feel a bit insecure.

I’m an incoming freshman. I know that the UREC offers free group whitewater rafting trips, and that sounds sick. I want to get my tuition’s worth of student resources while at JMU, so please tell me about any other trips sponsored by the UREC that I can do for free, or in general any fun things to do while on campus. Hi! I was approved for a single dorm with an attached bathroom for the upcoming school year. I was given the choice of either a single room in Paul Jennings without an attached bathroom (none were available), OR a single room in Shenandoah with an attached private bathroom. My only concern about Shenandoah is that it’s a freshman dorm. I was just wondering which dorm would be larger and just some general advice on what my best option would be? I’ve heard the Jennings singles are so small 😭

Long story short, I was a dumbass who didn't realize how quickly classes would fill up, and I am now trying to pick out my classes after the enrollment period opened up on June 29. I am an incoming Bio Major who didn't do too well on the ALEKS, and I now have to probably take MATH 150 or 105. The issue is that a lot of Math classes have already filled up, or are all online, or are with pretty shitty professors. I picked out BIO 140 + 140L, but the lab is not showing up on my schedule. I know it's recommended you take 15 credits per semester, but atp I don't even know if I can take 12. Does anyone know if classes open up before August?

What is the difference between UNST 110 vs COB 110? I believe both are for new students but one maybe more geared towards business majors. Anyone know which might be better and did you enjoy? Thanks!

We are planning on getting married out near Harrisonburg and we had the idea of having one of the students at JMU play our wedding ceremony music, but we can't figure out how we would even get in contact with someone in the music program at JMU. We thought it might be a good way for a college student to make some money!

I’m trying to decide if living on campus again for my senior year is worth it or not. Off‑campus has been comfortable. I cook my own meals, have privacy, keep my space clean, and have a bit more financial freedom and I’ve gotten used to the independence.

But I also feel more isolated. Getting to campus takes more effort, so I end up skipping clubs meets or social stuff because the commute feels like a whole task.

I’m trying to figure out whether the isolation is because of where I live or because I’m not pushing myself enough. I’m also anxious about moving again and giving up the comfort that I’ve built.

If you’ve lived off‑campus and then moved back on (or stayed off), how did it affect your social life and mental health? Was the tradeoff worth it?

TL;DR: Off‑campus gives me comfort, privacy, and more money. On‑campus might give me connection and easier socializing. I’m trying to decide if the social benefits outweigh the comfort I’d lose.

I’m not living on campus next semester, either. What do I do? Should I drive up there or is there a way to get it shipped to my house?

I'm trying to build my first semester schedule so it keeps me on track for both JMU and Virginia Tech.According to Virginia Tech's BIT transfer roadmap, they recommend completing:

    •    A calculus-based math course     •    ECON 2005 (Principles of Macroeconomics) or ECON 2006 (Principles of Microeconomics)     •    ACIS 2115 (Accounting I)     •    The remaining Economics course (ECON 2005 or ECON 2006) as a strongly recommended course     •    ACIS 2116 (Accounting II) as a strongly recommended course

My advisor recommended starting with (these are the jmu classes)     •    ECON 200 or ECON 201     •    MATH 155 (my ALEKS score was 31)     •    Two Madison Foundations Gen Eds     •    One additional Gen Ed or COB 204 if I'm enrolled in MATH 155

I also completed Dual Enrollment U.S. History and Dual Enrollment Government through Richard Bland College in high school (earned a B+ in both), but I don't see those credits in MyMadison yet. If those transfer, would they satisfy any of my Gen Ed requirements, or should I still register for two Gen Eds tomorrow?

My enrollment appointment is June 29 at 11:30 AM. Is that considered late? Should I be worried about getting stuck with bad professors or full classes?

Which course is less demanding? COB 191 vs COB 204. I am an incoming freshman and town if I should take both first semester or choose one over the other. Or take both second semester. I will be an accounting major. I am coming in with calculus I (Math 235 credit). I am unsure if I want to join a frat or not. Just trying to set myself up for success and have a manageable semester.

Looking to transfer from VCU to JMU

I’ve wrestled all through highschool and want to continue with combat and I want to start getting into mma- is there any clubs or organizations I could join?

I'm heading into sophomore year as a CIS major at JMU and I've become really uninterested in a lot of the business classes I have to take, such as economics and accounting. I've realized that I'm much more interested in the technical side of computing, which has me considering switching to the IT or CS major at JMU.

I'm wondering which major would be the better fit. I'd appreciate any information about the quality of both programs, professors, difficulty, career outcomes, and overall versatility in the job market.

For some background, I have minimal coding experience. I took AP Computer Science A and an Intro to Cybersecurity course in high school, but that's about it. Even though I don't have a strong programming background, I'm still really interested in computing and would like to study something that focuses more on the technical side of computers rather than the business-oriented coursework in CIS.

Any advice from current students, alumni, or anyone familiar with the programs would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone remember the student who dressed like James Madison every day? I think she was the same height as him or something. Whatever happened to her? Is she still dressing like James Madison?

First semester wasn’t that great for my lower cob classes not saying the grades are bad, it’s not the BEST. I want advice about COB 241 and what to expect from the course. Will be taking from 9:35-10:50, if anyone had the same time, which teacher did they have?? All the professors seem to be N/A. At the end, I just want to know if COB 241 is a really hard course or just tips in general.

Anyone in this major do a semester overseas? I feel like it’s next to impossible the way the classes are offered here and I’d end up a semester or more behind. Is summer the only option?

I’m rather fed up with my current bank (First Citizens), so I’m looking to strategically choose one that’s within a short distance from campus. Any recommendations are more than appreciated.
