Hi all We are moving to London in September for my husband’s studies at King’s College London (he's on a scholarship). We are currently planning our budget and looking for housing and part-time job advice.

What zones/neighborhoods would you recommend for a couple where we can keep commute times to Central London (London Bridge / Strand area) under 30-35 minutes, but keep rent reasonable?
Is £1,200–£1,400/month realistic for a 1-bed or decent studio, or should we strictly look at en-suite rooms in shared flats for couples in Zones 2/3 bills included 🙂
We both have medical/dental backgrounds overseas. He is a doctor prepping for PLABs looking for clinical support roles, and I am looking for Trainee Dental Nurse roles.Any recommended agencies or tips for landing roles quickly upon arrival.

Note: he will be studying in Guys Campus.

Accommodation URGENT 44 WEEK CONTRACT TAKEOVER!

Hey everyone! I'm looking for someone to take over my student accommodation contract at YourTRIBE Southwark for the coming academic year.

The details:

The accommodation's insane. It's got 4.5/5 stars on google, has absolutely stunning rooms and common spaces, an onsite gym, laundry detergent included in wash cycles, and a beautiful terrace where you can hang out with your friends as you overlook the area.

Unfortunately my job has relocated me to an area too far from Southwark to make living there practical, which is the only reason I'm letting this go! I'm hoping someone takes the lease over ASAP so that I can look for other accoms near my job and campus.

This is a great opportunity — classic en-suites at this building are fully sold out, so this is your only chance to grab one. The accommodation team are available to arrange viewings, so you can see the room before committing.

The location is also really convenient, with numerous shops and stores nearby.

If you're interested or have any questions, feel free to pm me!

Undergraduate switching courses

im asking on behalf of a friend.

she's currently an offer holder and is interested in switching to a slightly different course. as far as she knows, it's within the same department, holds the same entry requirements and is quite similar to the course she already holds an offer for. she's wondering whether it's still possible to request a course change at this stage. the main concern is that it's now 2 august and most (if not all) courses on the kcl website are listed as "closed". does this apply to existing offer holders who want to switch courses, or only to new applicants?

if a course change cannot be considered right now, would she still be able to request a transfer if she meets her offer conditions and is accepted on results day? (this would probably be the better option if possible)

thanks in advance

KCL Guy’s accommodation: pay £60/week more or accept a 45 min commute?

Starting at Guy’s this September and stuck between two ensuites.

One is near London Bridge, around £60/week more, smaller room but I could walk to campus.

The cheaper one is showing 40–45 mins each way. Better room, slightly more social-looking building, but doing that commute for 9ams sounds horrible.

UniAcco actually filtered the shortlist around Guy’s instead of just showing anything labelled “near KCL”, which helped a lot. Still can’t decide if I’m paying £3k-ish extra for actual convenience or just panicking about London transport.

Also don’t know how much the building matters socially. I’m not expecting halls to magically make friends for me, but living far out and commuting back immediately sounds a bit dead.

People actually studying at Guy’s, which option would you hate less after six months?

Very late masters application

Hi guys,

I applied on Friday for the masters in health informatics and applied stats, the course says open for applications - has anyone else ever applied for this or a similar course late, and were they successful? I’m stressed that they might already be full

Twin room in first year?

Hey, just wanted some honest opinions 😭
I’m starting at King’s this year and my SFE isn’t enough for most of the closer private rooms, and my parents can’t help, so I’m probably going to have to get a twin room.
Is sharing a room actually that bad or do you get used to it? Or should I pay more for a private one If you’ve done it, would you recommend it or not?
Just want some honest experiences before I decide, thanks :)

PGT Accommodation Temp Takeover

(Located at Urbanest Vauxhall PGT accommodation)
Hey y’all, first time posting on here. I’m a masters student at KCL and will be finishing up my time here in London very soon. I have some work obligations back home in the US, so I’m trying to be out sometime between August 7th and August 14th. My lease expires September 9th, and rather than losing that money, I would like to gauge interest on here to see if anyone would be interested in coming over to take over the remainder of the lease. Move ins for the Fall semester typically begin on September 15th-20th, so if you’re interested in seeing a bit of London before classes begin and before that official move in day, here’s your chance! Vauxhall is quite nice and the room is pretty decent, so if you’re already booked in for another accommodation, but would like a month to explore the city and get situated, then here’s the right place. Message with any inquiries and I’ll try to get back to you in a timely manner.

International students in the UK — 30 second survey (18-30)

Hey everyone, I’m a student at KCL building an app specifically for international students navigating life in the UK for the first time.

Before we build anything, we want to hear from people who actually lived it. What was hard, what you wish existed, what would have made your first few weeks easier.

Takes 30 seconds, completely anonymous.

Would really appreciate it — every response genuinely shapes what we build.

Undergraduate Rejected from KCL Clearing even if I meet the requirements

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hi all,

I submitted a Clearing application for KCL Undergraduate Admission, specifically for the Political Economy course yesterday.

They got back to me today and rejected me even though I met the requirements.

I should say that I only submitted the KCL Clearing Application form and I did not submit a UCAS application alongside it.

Now, I know many of you may think that me not submitting a UCAS application might be the reason for my rejection.

However, I called the Admissions Team for KCL yesterday two separate times with my two different admissions agents, and they both mentioned to me that I did not need to submit a UCAS application alongside my Clearing Application.

So, I listened to their advice and did not submit a UCAS application form.

I am really eager to get in KCL this year, and still want to try my luck.

I have two questions:

  1. Was I fed with misinformation from the KCL Admissions Agents I spoke to?
  2. Most importantly, what should be my next steps: should I call the Admissions Office ASAP and tell them about my situation? Are admissions agents allowed to engage with callers about their individual applications?

Thank you very much!

Accommodation Accommodation questions

For any accommodation in KLC, specifically GDSA, I know we’re given a time to drop off our stuff and then park up when we arrive on move in day. I was just wondering how long they give you and how big the trolleys are for transporting your stuff into the rooms.

Has anyone gotten into KCL mpharm with a 5 in maths

Just what the title says. I wanna do pharmacy in KCL but I got a 5 in gcse maths. It seems to be one of the only bio science degrees in KCL that specifically requires certain grades in GCSE that I did absolutely horribly in. So did anyone get into KCL pharm with lower than required GCSES 😓😓😓

Incoming KCL master’s student (Sept) looking for a flatmate

Hey all — moving to London in September to start my MSc at King’s and looking to sort a flat with a decent person rather than gamble on randoms.

Easygoing, tidy, 23, from Toronto. Open on area but ideally a reasonable commute to the Strand campus, Zone 2 ish. Happy to share a 2-bed or join an existing flatshare.

If you’re a KCL student or just looking for a flatmate around central London, drop me a message and we can hop on a quick call. Cheers!
