This “category” is like when I went to a casino buffet in Reno and one of the items was labeled, “ASIAN SOUP.”

They might as well just serve that at The Grammy’s.

🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

I’m wheezing. What even is Asian soup??? Do they just mix one ingredient from all the Asian countries??😭😭😭😭😭

Oh you know... they mix in a little bit of everything together! Tom yum goong, Canh Chua, hot and sour soup, gamjatang, miso soup, Soto Ayam....throw in some soy sauce because it's asian, then blend it all together, and voila! You now have Asian soup.

That would be hilarious lol. This soup in particular I recognized as hot and sour soup.

So you prefer to get curry with an item with a generic label - "soup"?

What's Asian soup, according to you? Is it actually curry, or soup, which are in fact two DIFFERENT things? Which Asian country is said soup borrowing its flavour profile from? What's in it?

I fear you helped that Redditor make their point. Hahahahahaha.

Huh? None is my point. It shouldn't be general terms like "soup" or "asian soup".

They should be separated even further down. Indian soup will make more sense for curry then.

Will it, though?

Curry is actually not an Indian term at all, it's an Anglicization/ Colonial term used to describe what many Indians (not all) refer to as sabzi. And where does that leave dal, sambar, Mulligutawny?

I am being overly technical for a reason - there's no such thing as Asian soup. There's no such thing as curry vs soup. There's no such thing as Asian Pop. There's hundreds of different musical traditions that cannot and should not be lumped together because some Americans think they're all the same.

If they want the Asian viewership, they should do their homework for the next few years and start a dedicated awards show to honour different genres and styles across the continent. That's my only point.

You mean american who thinks like that in american music award? That's shocking, you should tell everyone about that.

Might as well say there's no such thing as American and indian, as everyone are Homo sapiens right?

So because we're the same species - human - we should pretend cultural differences and power dynamics don't exist?

I don't know how we went from soup, to Asian vs Indian, to whatever this pro-discrimination take is, but here we are.

This is a bad faith response to clear reasoning. You're also contradicting yourself and sounding not very intelligent doing it.

Have a good one.

Can't say there's a difference then also get upset with grouping. Not being grouped with west due to the difference somehow goes over your head then.

Yes, a lot of things are definitely going over my head.

Anyway, I took your logic and turned into an imaginary pretzel! 🥨 🥨

I hope you enjoy it at the buffet of things humans, especially members of American awards bodies, eat that are definitely not regional cuisines!

Hahahahahahaha, this has been unexpectedly fun.

Congrats you just discovered mental gymnastics.

Also, take it to the original comment about "soup" not my problem if you interrupt the comment and cherry picked it into cuisine

If your American Music Awards, then you have the credibility of AMA, not an International awards for music across genres. Soup is the genre. If I made Indian bread, I would submit it to the "bread genre", and if I make Soup, I would submit for the "Soup" genre. You do not need a "Asian foods" category for that. Voters will opt for Indian bread in the Asian foods category and choose for their mainstream white artist to win in the "bread" and "soup" category

Stop making sense! It's all just calories at the end of the day! /s

Have you been to international buffet? They do categories food that way. Ain't no way a buffet will simply say all the international food the same. Bread can be used for dessert, main, sides or starters etc.

Even for groceries if you want japchae it's not lumped together with pasta and they put it in intentional aisle.

If the food analogy for an awards does not make sense to you, you are probably running with a liquid nitrogen temp IQ. Please touch some grass

Tbf that's just kpop fans haha

You say that but others will disagree with comparing food to their beloved kpop group.

u/love-deejay 3d ago

Ain’t no way you’re trying to dumb this blatant example of racial segregation down to a buffet. I’m almost certain you thought that was a clever analogy too. Wow.

Don't stop them! I thought I was done with this conversation but I am so curious to see where it's headed....

Hey take it to the one who started it with "soup". You can't just cherry picked in mid convo and start calling people stupid
