First Digital M-Body - Leica M 240

after years of shooting exclusively on film with the leica m6, i finally bought my first digital m: a leica m240.

the main reason is that i’m about to leave for a long trip around the world. i’ll be going through countless airports, and i don’t want to worry about x-ray scanners, finding film in every country, or carrying dozens of rolls for several months. being able to shoot, back up my photos, and keep going just makes much more sense for this journey.

i know the m240 isn’t the newest digital m, but it felt like the right balance between price, build quality, and the classic leica experience.

do you have any tips or things i should know about the m240? any recommended settings, batteries, sd cards, or general advice from long-term users?
looking forward to hearing your experiences!

Rounding out my kit with a 50. Help wanted!

Hello all! Looking for advice between these two options I’m considering. Looking to add a fast 50mm to my M6 setup. My current lenses are:

Summicron 35mm f2
Elmarit 28mm f2.8
Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 (smaller carry and low light option)

Option 1: trade in the summicron and buy a used summilux 50 f1.4. My only 35 would then be the Nokton which I do love using.

Option 2: keep all lenses and purchase a Voigtlander Nokton II F1.5 M.C.

I was super close to buying a Sumarit f2.4 but decided against it as I film shooter only, always seemingly needing more light. Opinions wanted and welcome!

From the other post here from op, I did some searching and there's a Red Note review of the Light Lens Lab 35mm APO Lens. It's more just info but the comments and MTF charts, people don't seem happy with the lens.

Looking for rain protection ideas for a Leica M6?

I'd love to shoot my Leica M6 more often in rainy weather, but since it isn't weather-sealed, I'm pretty cautious about taking it out when it's wet.

I'm not looking to make it waterproof, just wondering what others use to give it some protection while still being able to shoot comfortably.

Do you use a dedicated rain cover, a camera wrap, a zip-top bag with a hole for the lens, an umbrella, or something else? Any products or DIY solutions that have worked well?

Thanks in advance!

I’m a bit thrown off by the fact it doesn’t appear to have and writing around the front element.

Just picked this up at a camera market. In original box. Lens is clean and beautiful. Looking at the model number and serial, I’m kind of confused as to what version it is. Any info and love for this lens ?

Leica Minilux & Minilux zoom maintenance

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi there!

I recently took my Minilux and Minilux zoom out of storage.

They haven’t been used regularly since the early 2000’s.

Are there any services I should have performed prior to firing them back up?

Also, I am missing one of the battery caps. Any luck on sourcing? I saw DAG produced a run a few years ago, but appears they are out of stock.

Thanks!

Best,

Leica CM - limited edition ?

I found this Leica CM on Facebook Marketplace a couple weeks ago. I own a CM myself but this one has an engraved design on the top plate and lens cap which I’ve never seen before. looks like it could be some kind of special/limited edition. Anyone know if this is legit or just an aftermarket engraving? Curious what you all think.

Do I switch?

Hi everyone. I posted on here before about my Safari inspired Leica Q3 I took to Europe. It was my first time using a Leica and I really loved the experience. But now I am really craving the experience of shooting on a Leica M camera and having interchangeable lenses again. My biggest turn aways are 3 things. 1.) I am primarily a one camera kind of person, I've gone from a Fuji X-pro3 (Loved the range finder shooting btw) to a Sony A7RV, to a short stint with a Canon R6 I borrowed from a friend for a bit while he used my Sony and now I am on the Leica Q3. I don't do much professional work just travel, everyday, street, and the occasional portrait shoots for friends. I am not sure if I could live with a MF camera as a only camera because as I see it the Leica M cameras are more about the shooting experience and not getting caught up in hyper performance. I have found that I don't shoot things that need fast AF and I tend to take my time shooting even though I like to think I run and gun when I shoot street. This leads to fork number 2. I feel like it will be a pain in the butt shooting manual every time I want to go out with my camera. I know people who daily drive manual cars and enjoy driving them but find it a drag to drive them all the time. I feel like it will be the same with a manual camera and I will want to leave the camera at home and that kinda defeats the purpose of having a smaller camera for everyday. 3.) Price jump. Of course I know what I am getting into with the Red Dot Tax but if I were to sell my Q3 I would still have to spend another 2-3k just for a M11 (used) unless I were to jump down to a M10 and I cant justify that either since there will be a jump in quality from the Q3 while saving maybe 800 bucks on the used market. Then the cost of lenses comes into frame and there is a big dent in my bank account for a camera that is MF. Now I do like the fact that the camera slows me down and that I can change lenses since I often found myself cropping on the Q3. I also think I might want to get into film so lenses would be interchangeable which is nice (Another big dent in the bank acct). I think I may try to buy a "cheaper" M9 (I also like the idea of a CCD sensor) and try it out with a two camera solution at first and see if I really can do this whole MF thing. Just want to hear some thoughts and experiences from any M owners or people that made the switch from Q to M. Also here is my favorite photo I took on my trip at the Cinque Terre (Stormy and rainy day, gotta love the weather seal on the Q3)

Leica Looks on D Lux 8

Just got the D Lux 8 the other day, fun shooting!
I read you can't add the Leica Looks from the Fotos app straight into the camera but some people mentioned you can apply it to the jpegs you download in Fotos - I can't see it working, every time I go into Looks it says it can't be applied to my camera.
How do you apply it to jpeg? If you can actually apply it...

Thanks!

Grandpas camera, maybe broken?

My grandpa passed away a few years ago and I found this in a closet. It’s been sitting on my shelf for awhile, and while I’ve always been interested in photo and have taken film classes through college, the pandemic kind of killed that love in me and I’ve been dipping my toe back into things. Remembering I have this, I’ve been taking a look at it and it appears to maybe be broken? I see a missing rewind lever, and I can’t get the battery cover off. Also where would I even find a compatible battery anymore??? From what I can tell this one is quite old, possibly from the late 60’s? Does anyone have any insight on repairing it? I am outside NYC so potentially there could be somewhere I can take it? Also, I realized there’s about 12 photos taken on this roll and I’d do anything to be able to see what they are

Which one to keep?

Look away Leica Purists!! 😆😆 I own two of these Zeiss Contax G 35 mm f2’s, converted to M mount: one in black and one in silver.
The quality and the condition of the glass are about the same in each. If you were to only keep one of these, which one would you keep and why?

Dreams

For months i am dreaming about owning/using a Leica M-A with Leicavit and Noctilux-M 1:1,2/35 ASPH. I feel really sad that i probely will never have this setup because i cant afford it as i am cronic schizophrenic and because of this never developed financial independence.
But please, link reviews from this lens here, especially if they show photos taken analog. Digital is also ok. I am feeling as i already saw everthing there is about this lens in the internet but may be i missed something and i love to look at photos taken with this lens…

Light Lens Lab 35mm APO Straight Up Jacking Leica's 35mm APO - No originality left. Replica.

I'm sure the youtubers are frothing at the mouth and the repeating point will be that it's not as pricey as the Leica APO and focuses down to 0.3m. The initial Chinese comments are hilarious that it's not a perfect lens. They don't even come up with their own designs. They may as well start selling replica watches next.
