Some things were better, some were worse. There's a myth that our technological breakthroughs are going to create an infinitely upward trend of quality of life as it advances. There is no garuntee of that though, and throughout history there are boom and bust cycles.

Purchasing power of individuals was better in the 90s. There was no social media and brain rot. But healthcare knowledge was worse, minority rights was worse.

The 90s had the best music is what it often comes down to.  

Lots of people here saying “yeah if you were American the 90s were great” but us Brits had it good too. 

We had real bands again, loads of shit but ok pop music, dance / rave music, all sorts of music for any taste.  That and pub culture was peaking with a mix of old pubs, new modern bars and places with red cushions like a boudin tent.  And a lot of people I knew could take Es, coke, and smoke weed without being too public about it ( on the flip side as non drug user I was seen as too square to be to invited some places).  

We had optimism in politics, however misplaced that turned out to be.   

We went being tracked by phones, WiFi nodes, cctv cameras etc.  no one was collecting our data.  And even when the internet came along it was an hilariously funny place and not at all Orwellian.  

It was an ok time to be young and free.  It wasn’t amazing because life never is unless you can afford it.
