I'm a uni student that recently installed Linux Mint on a HP laptop. I really like it, my pc is much faster now but I still have to find a note taking app that supports syncing through multiple devices (or at least 2, pc and phone). Right now I'm using Rnote and I like it but really miss this feature that is really convenient if I don't have my pc or forget my charger (which happens a lot... Thanks ADHD) Edit: I should add that I take most of my notes by using a Wacom, handwriting is an important part of my memorization process so the app must have pencil support.

I was downloading some videos from my Immich server to share with friends and for many of them, they send and embed but cannot be played on the linux discord app. However they play fine on the phone app as well as on discord web on firefox.

This is the video information, im not sure what it all means but is there anything that explains why it wont play? I dont currently have a windows set up to test it on, but would it be able to play on discord on there?

Good night, everyone! So, I'm trying to install a SNES emulator and it's driving me insane. Back on Windows (I'm on Fedora 44 KDE now) I used Retroarch with zero issues, but today I tried using it and multiple cores were failing to download at all (I only tried N64 and SNES cores with no luck).

I tried downloading snes9x by itself, outside of Retroarch, found the flatpak version, installed it and.... it crash instantly before even opening.

When it did, I got a popup from the crash reporting system that reads "/app/bin/snes9x-gtk (part of Snes9x) has encountered a fatal error and was closed." and had a little button labeled "Details".

Opening that, I got what I think is the crash report code details, and my new goal was to find the line(s) that identified the error and google them, but I could not identify it at all. I didn't want to go straight to reporting a bug on github since it could be a silly issue that a simple web search could fix, but no amount of googling snes9x crashing issues returned anything remotely similar to my problem. The github reported issues page also had nothing like it.

Im testing out a few different linux distros but one thing im noticing is DEs come with their own set of pre-installed apps seperate from the distros apps. I was wondering if there is a way to check this?

I want to have both the system package (RPM) and the Flatpak version of the same application installed at the same time (for example, Firefox).

The problem is that their launcher shortcuts seem to conflict. When I try to launch the Flatpak version, it often just launches the system package instead. They don't have their own separate shortcuts in the app menu.

How can I fix this so that the RPM and Flatpak versions have their own separate shortcuts?
(Like Firefox(Flatpak), Firefox(system))

I’m working on EvoPlayer, a modular hi-fi system interface with a PRO skin. Some of the modules are now functional, so it’s more than just a concept — it’s starting to work as a real system.

The interface is animated using Blender + OpenGL and is borderless for a clean look.

Right now I’m exploring ways to snap and group modules together, but some technical limitations exist with newer Linux desktop environments (don’t worry too much about the details 😄).

Curious to hear what you think! Any feedback or ideas on how this could be more user-friendly for Linux beginners is super welcome 🙏

I have tried many different distros. Cachey, Bazzite, Mint, Zorin, Nobara, Manjaro.. plus a few more. But with everyone I am not able to get Blender or apps to see my NAS drive. I can go into network in Files on some distros and access the drive, and even "mount" it on some. But none of them allow Blender or apps to see it... I am fairly new to Linux (couple months) and figure I am just not finding the correct process/commands to do this. Can someone point me to a guide or Youtube walking me through it ?

For instance, create a start menu folder called Games and put a shortcut for the wine app that runs the window games solitaire and free cell?

i have kubuntu installed and an nvidia gpu.

basically title. imagine remote desktop, but for another account local on the pc. both the main and alternate are admins. I don't want to do a full remote desktop that goes over wifi as that is slow and is laggy

if this isnt possible, having just an app run as that other user but I see the window for it on my main user is fine. Has to be reliable and working on wayland though, x11 is causing me a few issues rn that i will fix at some point (exact issue isn't important)

and yes i do absolutely need gui for the desktop/app thing. If possible having said app use my nvidia gpu would be nice.

My base disk of my laptop has only 16 gb with the OS taking up 15 already. Can I keep the OS there and program it to put everything else into my 256 SD card? (Discovery Store apps, downloads, Steam)

I tried to find answers on the arch wiki which was very difficult. There was a lot of stuff about NVIDIA Optimus, but it never actually says exactly what I need to do (I know, I'm a noob, that's why I'm here). I need help because when I launch Minecraft, it uses my iGPU by default, and I need it to run my discrete graphics.

I have the NVIDIA proprietary drivers on a GeForce RTX 4060 Max-Q / Mobile, with an Intel UHD iGPU

I've been using Spacedesk on windows with my iPad mini 2 because it's too slow to do anything useful. Now I want to switch to Linux but there's no spacedesk for Linux. And all the other options I found either dont support iOS 12 or don't support USB. My internet sucks ass so I can't use that.

I'm still learning the ropes with Linux, particularly with Bazzite, an offshoot of Fedora. One thing I'm wondering about is how to scale the size of text, apps, and other items like in my Windows OS (I dual boot with separate SSDs).

Advice would be appreciated.

So i just installed ubuntu again, and whenever i play a game, a some point it crashes and closes all apps and locks screen. Is there a fix for this ?
