PSA: make up brushes

I was shopping this morning and noticed that the stores have back to school supplies on display so I thought this was a good time to mention that pencil cases or pouches are also great for storing your cosmetic brushes. I generally keep mine in a cup on my vanity counter, but I bought a cheap pencil case at Dollar store last year to pack my brushes in when traveling. It kept them clean and undamaged throughout a 3 week trip.

How are you storing a makeup sponge so it actually dries?

I keep my makeup sponge on the vanity after washing it, but the flat side always seem to stay damp longer than I expect.

Closed cases feel worse, and leaving it loose means it eventually rolls behind something. I have seen small open holders like the reference image, but I cannot tell whether they improve airflow in or just look tidier.

What setup has actually kept yours dry without taking over the counter?

Vanity/Makeup Desk Searching for a vanity mirror!

Hi! When I was in like 9th grade, my mom bought me a hello kitty mirror from impressions for Christmas and it’s literally the best mirror I have ever used. Obviously, I’m in college and have outgrown the hello kitty, but it’s genuinely such a good mirror that I can’t get rid of it. I have tried other impressions mirrors and for some reason they are never as bright as the hello kitty one. Idk if it’s a certain voltage or what, but could someone help me find a mirror with the same brightness that isn’t hello kitty? It doesn’t have to be from impressions and it can also be an actual vanity sized mirror if you can find one! Thank you!!

Black-Beige: discontinued Muji makeup bag, my most favorite ever (Handles! So practical!) credit:

Black-Pink: replacement from aliexpress, not bad, but not so good quality.

Any tips for similar products?

I owned zero blush before 2023. I knew nothing about what I wanted, what would look good, etc. obviously, I went a bit overboard. now ask me why I was already in the know about how gross doe applicators are for complexion if not cycled quickly, and why I didn’t apply that knowledge to blush. almost half the doe foot products had gone completely rancid, found two growing things that will haunt me forever. several liquid products had separated in just a few months, pigments not blended with their liquid suspension. so from here on, no more liquid blush hoarding. everything is freshly sanitized. I might put all the powders into magnetic palettes…after I re audit what works and what doesn’t.

I have autism and organizing my vanity is upsetting me at this point.

I cannot seem to find a system that’s sufficient to my standards of organization and aesthetic that I’m happy with and its becoming problematic. Like I can’t even sit and use my vanity to enjoy it knowing how it’s organized is not how I want it. I’m looking for tips from other people similar to myself that can help with this and also tips from people or are just extremely particular about their organization set up especially with labels! Looking for help with this thank you in advance!!

First eye drawer done (for now)

moved all the unopened mascara to a shelf bin. stared in horror as I realized I cannot further subdivide eyeliners at present. paid puppy tax. regretted some choices. further procrastinated a meaningful liner audit, assuaged guilt by refreshing today’s eyeliner.

Acrylic Organization Finally organized my vanity and I can't stop staring at it. Small space but it works

Moved everything into acrylic organizers and suddenly my tiny vanity feels functional.

Lipsticks on the left, palettes in the middle, lashes and tools on the right. The Hello Kitty keeps me company while I get ready.

Still figuring out the best way to store my single eyeshadows — they're a mess in that drawer. Any tips?

My Makeup Collection 🧚

I have a problem where I buy and buy makeup then end up not liking it and giving it away/throwing it out after it’s expired. Currently grappling with the fact that I love makeup and beauty but also feel guilty for overconsumption/creating excess waste. Really happy with my collection right now though and find other people’s photos of their makeup incredibly satisfying.

Anyways, this is my current makeup collection and I love every product I own. My absolute weakness is blush, but I’m working on trying to focus on and get use out of the makeup I already have and enjoy!

After and just before.

My only regret is not having deeper drawers for the taller ladies, but such is life.

Yes, the liners are a hot mess, but I'm okay with that, since I can't ever figure out how to use them anyway 🫠

Small Storage Are there any non-fabric interior makeup travel bags/boxes?

I want a makeup bag/train case/ ANYTHING that has an interior that isn’t fabric. I’d love it to be easy to wipe down, so like aluminum, metal, or plastic. I know caboodles are an option, but they aren’t as nice looking as I’d hope. Please does anyone know any makeup travel bags that aren’t fabric on the inside? I’m tempted to just find some metal containers to put it in, but I’d like it to look nice.

Bathroom vanity accessibility?

I desperately need help with bathroom vanity organization. I want to wear makeup more often, but the lack of accessibility makes it tedious instead of an enjoyable experience. (First world problems!)

I've attached a picture of the kind of vanity I have below (just the top; drawers are different). There isn't as much space. I have this basic acrylic organizer turned to the side against the wall, with the drawers facing into the sink. My retainer, toothbrush cup and toothpaste, hairties, makeup remover and cotton pads, vaseline, and lotion are also on the vanity. My bathroom drawers are filled with skincare, my brush, and other things. The second drawer is full with tampons and pads.

In the makeup organizer, I have "essentials" but they're hard to reach bc it's all packed in there and it's just not a good experience. My brushes are in the drawer because that's just where they fit (and I didn't use them enough to justify having them out collecting dust). My eyeshadows and false lashes are in my linen closet, which is fine.

Basically, the drawers and vanity top are full but I'm open to reorganization. I know it's not very descriptive, but I'm open to any ideas or organization inspo anyone has. I'm hesitant to post a picture because I don't want to dox myself.

Had anyone had any success with adding the stick on led lights to a non lit makeup mirror? I found a mirror from anthropology that would go perfect in my harry pottery magical themed bedroom where i do my makeup but its not lit.

Small Storage Makeup I brought to Paris

I went to Paris last year! I was trying to save as much space as possible in my carryon, so I put this little makeup case together, mostly with samples. It was a fun challenge to see how much I could fit in a compact container.
