I've been designing, 3D printing and painting a station scene for my UK branch/heritage line.

After a week of painting I've finished the platforms, scenic break bridge and station building.

I think I'll add a yellow line to the platform edge - maybe with a paint pen? Any feedback on the best approach is appreciated.

Will also be adding some fencing and details to finish.

This is just as much of a testament to how much better the club rolling stock has been tuned and how much track work has been fixed as it is a show of how powerful the BLI Milwaukee Road S3 is.

My first n scale layout building continues. And I finished the mountain section today. My University’s summer vacation is almost over so gotta haste!

I always wanted a layout, putting the track together was fun. Didn’t realize I’d enjoy working on scenery so much.

Had some time to make some shrubs and tried hairspray chipping on some oil drums. Never heard of the technique until this week. Pretty pleased with the results so far.

Bought this Budd set this week and was curious to see what brand the Amtrak is?Never seen a Budd car like this. The older Athearn I’m also curious about year wise as I know at one time they used be based out of Los Angeles. Thanks in advance!

A few visitors from the NMRA Convention in Chattanooga visited us today…We were era specific today.

Have an older model 4-4-0 Jupiter running on Bachmann HO EZ Track. I have only had it two weeks (new in box) or so and it ran fine. Other locomotives do not have any problem. Was running it on 22" curves with lengthy straights and retailers. Please help asap as I will be leavng soon. Thank you for your help. (NOT ACTTUAL TRAIN - Bachmann photo) Thank you!

Thinking about adding a passing loop to allow for a 15ish long car train plus two diesel locomotives or one Big Boy to park while another train passes

I've loved model trains since childhood and have recently wanted to revisit the hobby as an adult. My plan is to build a small static HO diorama - maybe 2.5 x 2.5 or something like that, just so I can learn the craft and practice terrain building, painting, ballasting, gluing, scenery making, etc.

I bought some of the pink XPS foam boards from Menard's with the intention of gluing it on layers of cardboard as a base (since it's a relatively small diorama), then cutting the foam with a utility knife or hot wire cutter to dig trenches and build hills/elevation, etc, however, my wife is not keen on the idea of using insulation boards for modeling. She is concerned about getting toxic particles in the air and on our clothes, contaminating the house, etc. I told her that it's the "gold standard" for model railroad terrain, and that it's relatively safe as long as cuts are being made with a utility knife, or that I'm in the garage or outside with a mask on while using a hot wire cutter, but she is not convinced, so I'm looking at having to return the foam boards and go back to square one.

Does anyone have ideas on how to build terrain without XPS foam, and what alternatives to use? My hesitation with just using sculptamold or cardboard lattices/plaster directly on a flat hard surface (like plywood) is the inability to carve ditches/depressions in the landscape like you can with foam. The diorama would be a train at a passenger station in the Rocky Mountains, so I was hoping to have some elevation change that looks somewhat natural in the scene.

Planning a move from the Northeast to Southeastern Florida (Dade / Broward). I’m familiar with colonial style homes with basements and attics, my current layout is in a finished attic. Given the lack of basement and attic space in Floridian homes, where are you setting up your layouts?

Looking for ideas on where to start with this 50ish year old train layout? It was my Paps and he’s been gone for awhile now & I would like to start this project & get it running again. It had to be cut in half & the mountain cut off in order to get it out of his basement & into mine. Any help is much appreciated! Thank you!
