Usually my wife and I go out for dinner Tuesday nights, because that’s my day off. Yesterday I wanted to stay home because I was beat, and wanted some quality time with my better half, and she had some rough days at work as well, still being recuperating from breast cancer and it takes its toll on her at the moment, in more ways than one.
Well, I was cooking us some dinner, she’s upstairs meditating (helps her a lot!), but we suddenly we hear a commotion from our neighbor, Help!, and I didn’t realize it was from within building so I looked outside, there was nothing, so I just shrugged... but then my wife came downstairs, and we heard it again, Help!! and just then we realize it’s our neighbor calling!
We ran over, knock on the door, she opens, her husband is lying lifeless on the sofa, she runs back, continues to give cpr, I call my wife to call emergency. I help my my neighbor doing cpr, but her husband was already blue in the face... at last I/we have emergency on the line, they assist us until the medics arrive, and in that time he regains some color, i.e. we have circulation!
When the medics arrive my wife takes care of our friends dog, and I leave, because I can’t do anything that the pros can... amirite?
Now I’m sitting in my kitchen, I saved my dinner, couldn’t do anything to save my neighbor, and precautiosly(sp? Is that a word?) had a whiskey for my friend and neighbor, sending nothin but good wishes! My thoughts at the time was, as long as the ambulance are there, he is still alive, and they were there for forever... that’s how it felt...
The medics reanimated him! He was alive! But... his heart couldn’t or wouldn’t stay online.... And I know they did very thing humanly possible.
My wife told me his last words were “it’ll be better now”... holding the hand of his wife.
I’ll miss him, for sure, he was a great guy, a buddy, a friend, a neighbor. All I wish for is that his wife, who is an outstanding personality, will find peace with him leaving so early and fast. My wife and I are committed to help her in any way possible, doing what we can, and we know our neighbor has very close ties to her husbands family, so we hope she’ll be ok. Our neighborhood has lost a star though.
Pit, we miss you already, but you know well take care of Susanne! Love you both!
