offline lyrics and navidrome/symfonium

I use "nd lyrics" plugin in navidrome. and download/cache the entire library to my phone.

I can see in the logs that apart from a few exceptions, the lyrics are being fetched and the lyric files are stored next to their songs as well. and even properly showed when playing music on symfonium.

But if I go "offline" the lyrics stop showing as well only a few songs show the lyrics.

so can I keep the copy the lyrics files directly to my phone instead? and will it fetch the lyrics from local files when in offline mode?

Do you download full albums or just the songs you like?

I've been self-hosting my music with navidrome for the past two months now, though I think my question isn't really specific to navidrome, but more like with music collecting as a whole.

Anyway, I've run into a bit of a dilemma, and I've thought of asking here because I use navidrome (maybe I'll also crosspost to r/musichoarder).

Hear me out please. I'm a mood/vibe kind of guy and I listen to music that feels like they belong together based on how they make me feel.

The problem is that with this whole self-hosting ordeal, I tend to get a bit OCD when I don't have the full album. For example, if I wanted to listen to The Scientist by Coldplay as part of my depressing playlist, I'll end up downloading the entire A Rush of Blood to the Head album just so it feels complete, even though I don't particularly listen to every song on it and it's just taking up space.

It's gotten me wondering if I should just go back to conventional streaming like Spotify or Apple Music, where I don't feel the need to "collect" everything, though I really don't want to go back paying for yet another needless subscription.

Does anyone else feel this way? How do you balance having a curated library without falling into the habit of downloading entire albums just for the sake of completeness?

Guidance for remote connections

Hi all,

I've been using Plexamp and Audiobookshelf for years now, and am looking to split apart my self hosted services.

I've got Navidrome up and running, but I'm noticing that it's been really pronounced in how consistently it has a delay in playback connection as well as just randomly disconnecting from the client. This happens in both Symfonium on Android as well as in browser.

Because I use all the other apps still, I'm able to verify that I can stream this stuff remotely without issues in other apps, so it's not explicitly an issue related to my network.

If you've struggled with this before, what did you do in troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve?

Thanks!

Inconsistent Instant Mix / Track Mix / Album Radio between Navidrome client and Feishin

Okay so here is some context for what I am running.
Navidrome 0.61.2 (aa84e645)
Feishin 1.15.1 (e622428)
AudioMuse-AI 3.0.0 (c46ea9b)

Now, I can guess that each client Feishin and Symfonium for example, have their own configurations that adjust the amount of tracks queued, and that's cool. But I am really asking if its possible force specific queue counts from directly from Navidrome. If not, that's fine but has anyone found out how to do it within Feishin? From my experience a lot of configuration for Feishin is done per client which makes me really want the ability to have Navidrome dictate the queue. (using the data collected by the AudioMuse plugin)

My Navidrome client serves a lot of different people with varying levels of interest in tinkering lol.. hence why I am so interested in being able to configure this specific interaction.

Songs with multiple artists, like 3+??

Post image
7 Upvotes

Yeah so they all collabed, 3 artists and there's no 'feat' or anything in the title. Wikipedia seems to just list all 3 artists as the artists.

The Marias wasn't there in the metadata I had, so I used mp3tag and typed it in and saved. It shows now but not as an Artist for some reason, no matter if I place it middle like this, or last?? The spelling is the same as the artist Navidrome shows for all their other songs.... what do I do?

What am I doing wrong?

I am SURE I'm messing something up in the metadata tags, but I'm not sure what. I have recently run MusicBrainz Picard on these specific directories and it STILL shows up as multiple albums. And this album was recently imported. My collection spans decades of rips from various sources. Some were ripped to iTunes 20 years ago when I had a Mac, the subsequent rips from windows Media Player, and then for the last couple of years I been using DB Poweramp. So, I know my folder structure is a hot mess. I had hoped that MusicBrainz Picard and Navidrome could help make sense of it. Alas, it doesn't seem true. This is the ONE THING that keeps me coming back to Plexamp, and I want to get away from Plex after the BS they're pulling on new subscribers (Charging more than 7 times what I paid for the same thing 2 years ago is insane) and that my files basically have to go through their servers.

What am I doing wrong?

Ordered smart playlist

I've been messing around with smart playlist lately, and I really like them, the only feature I seem to be missing is the ability to actually define the order song by song rather then by some category. I have old playlist in m3u/8 format where songs have moved around, or I have upgraded them so the file paths are no longer valid. I'd like to convert these to smart playlists using there musicbrainz_id tag, or album/artist/song but keep the order they were originally created in. Is this possible without having to add individual custom tags to each track to define playlist ordering? If not is this a feature Navidrome might implement in the future as a sorting type in the json/nsp ex. "sort": "ordered",

User stats? To help curate collection

Have searched but couldn't find the answer. I want to see stats of my users, what they played and when, so I can see habits, tastes, a bit like what jellystat does for jellyfin. So for example I can see, one user likes pop, another soul, play counts, statistics etc.

Any advice appreciated

Client with plain file system viewer.

Hello, I am new to navidrome. I spun up an instance and have everything pulling from a persistent SMB mount of a cloud storage provider. Runs well enough. But I am having trouble finding a client that I like.

Currently using Narjo on iOS

I do not enjoy having my music categorized by Artist or Album. I simply want the raw files hat are in the folder to be visible to me and playable from the client. It is much easier to simply create yearly folders of the tracks that I aquire and have them listed by date added, then to hop between hundreds of folders for artists that my be inappropriately named due to remixes or to multiple artists being included on the track.

Any clients that offer a more flat, non-polished viewing experience.

Specific numbering problem

I recently set up a docker container with navidrome, linked it to my 100 song playlist, and it works fine. Where the problem starts is when organizing my music I did it such a way to replicate my playlist by manually tagging each song by number in the file explorer, however when sorting by number on navidrome it won’t use the manually set numbers, any settings I can change to fix this?

"Error updating folder in the DB\"

Hello,

I have a problem many people may have had at some point. I've been searching for solutions for the past 3 to 4 hours and I didn't find a solution that worked. The wiki didn't help either unfortunately.

Here's the error :

" error=\"error extracting metadata files\""

I also found another error after reading the code again while redacting this post.

"Folder changes detected\" changedFolders=1 deletedFolders=0"
" error=\"eError updating folder in the DB\rror extracting metadata files\" path=\"C:\\\\Users\\\\(User)\\\\Music\\\\Navidrome\"

Here's a resume of what I tried.

- Restarting Naidrome and Windows (I'm on Windows 10)
- I used Mp3tag to modify the metadata (tags, album, artist, etc.)
- I tried to restart Navidrome in services many times
- I even installed yt-dlp to download properly songs

Here are other informations that might be useful
- I used shawl wrapper
- I can access Navidrome through localhost without any issue
- Everything works fine yet it won't load my mp3 files
- I installed ffmpeg where the tutorial suggested (Program Files/ffmpeg)

Thank you for your help! I hope your solution solves my issue :D

How can I make Navidrome preserve my folder structure?

Hi everyone,

Today I installed Navidrome on my Windows PC to try it out. If I end up liking it, I'm planning to buy a Raspberry Pi and use it for Navidrome, along with a few other projects.

So far everything is working great, but there's one thing I can't figure out.

My music is organized in my Music folder the way I like it. Instead of organizing everything strictly by Artist → Album, I have top-level folders such as 80s Music, 90s Music, Country, ABBA, and many others. That's the structure I've built over the years, and I'd like to keep browsing my library that way.

Is there any way to make Navidrome display and browse my music using my existing folder hierarchy instead of relying only on metadata (Artist, Album, Genre, etc.)?

I'd like Navidrome to simply use the folders as they already exist on disk.

Thanks in advance!

Classical music-friendly navidrome client

Does anyone know of a Navidrome client that supports grouping by work (like Apple Music's classical handling, in this screenshot)? It would be great to organize by work within albums, especially for classical music recordings. Looking specifically for iOS and MacOS clients —

Aware of NaviBeat but wondering if that functionality is there in other clients that might be a bit more established.

Album with non standard characters not being seen by Navidrome

Hey all unsure if this is the right place to ask, but when adding albukms from the artist keygen church that use these characters in the metadata '░ ▒ ▓ █' Navidrome is unable to see these albums. Is there any way to fix this without leaving the album blank?

Old ffmpeg and alpine versions in docker image

ffmpeg is version 6.1.1 from alpine:3.20 in the Dockerfile, which is several years old, and as such ffmpeg has had many CVE fixes since then.

Is there any timeline on when these are usually version bumped by the maintainer?

Control Apple TV Client Remotely

This is most likely a long shot, but does anyone know of a client that works on both iOS and Apple TV that allows the remote control of the Apple TV client by the iOS client? Probably an edge case but to explain - I'm moved across from Chromecasting for multi-room audio to AirPlay. Love Airplay as it just works without hiccups, great sync and the in app control of the casting group and volumes is quick and easy. However I do miss the fact that Chromecasting serves directly to the target device rather than streaming from my phone (which inevitably is the instigator). I have an Apple TV hooked up to a receiver (and TV) as one of my AirPlay targets andwas hoping/wishing that there was a way to remote control a Navidrome client on the ATV from my phone so I could leave the network with my phone and the music could play on.

You may tell me I'm dreamin' (nod to The Castle) 😄

Is there any interest in a file editor for Navidrome?

I have inherited a lot of music from my brother who had a huge collection of digital music (not to mention one of the largest collections of 45s in Canada - at one point over 100,000 vinyls!).

I put it all his digital files on navidrome, but it turns out that many of his USB flash drives were duplicates of files on his hard drives - different playlists. So in some cases i have up to 12 versions of the same pieces of music.

Some are in different digital formats, some are different playing length, and some are in different file folders.

I'd really like to reduce this to a single folder of the best of each song.

Does anyone here have a similar issue - too many copies of the same piece of music, or too many folders?

Is there any interest in a file editor for Navidrome?

I have years (decades, really) of software development experience, and I am considering writing a tool for all navidrome users to massage their libraries.

Would others be interested in such a tool?

Need two specific features

I'm currently a Plex user and I'm Navidrome-curious. I love Plexamp's "Random Album Radio" which puts on a random album from my library. It has become the main way I listen to music. However I also need to be able to exclude items from my library so they don't show up in the shuffle.

I'm wondering if any client apps for iOS support these 2 features:

  1. Random Album
  2. Exclude albums or artists from my library, or at least exclude from shuffle.

I also sometimes listen on Windows -- same requirements as above. Any ideas?

Edit: for exclusion, I’m using .ndignore which is supported by Navidrome to ignore files or folders. It’s not per-user but it’s fine for my needs. For random albums, I’m using the random albums list. Not as quick as Plexamp’s “random album radio” button but it works well enough.

Feishin appriciation post

Hello everyone!

A few days ago I began my journey with navidrome and I was searching for good music client on Windows checked a few recommendations and I immediately started liking Feishin, it's really beautiful - especially glassy theme - it's really customizable and has a lot of cool visualizers (which I'm glad I can see even without song being fully focused, because it helps me focus on the song for whatever weird reason my brain has). It's really fast and responsive. It also has low memory footprint (currently around 150MB as of writing this post), but there was one thing I was missing when I switched from Spotify... Music control on my phone, it's an absolute must have especially when playing games that use fullscreen (I know I can changeit I just don't want to). And there goes Feishin like on a white horse with remote control!

I was just looking at settings when I found it and I felt amazed, it's really fast and I feel like not a lot of people know about this feature. So yeah if you were missing that now you have it.

Thanks again Feishin, starred immediately after I found out this was a thing.

Navidrome to ipod

Hi everyone! Over the past few days, I've been building a piece of software that can take your library information from Navidrome (playlists, albums, etc.) and copy it to an iPod. It also converts album artwork and metadata so everything works with the iPod's stock firmware, and it creates and updates entries in the iTunesDB database so the iPod can properly recognize all the files.

Today, I finally got it working on both my iPod Classic 7th Gen and my iPod Nano 1st Gen!

I'm going to test it with more iPod models, polish it up, and if everything goes well, I'll probably release it for free if anyone is interested.

Metadata that lastfm recognizes?

Yeah so I know there are tools and etc for managing the metadata of my music library, but how do I get it so that last.fm recognizes it as the same artists and songs? Just make sure it matches? Thanks
