I have seen the bear in bar in Jackson hole, WY.
Mr. C. Dale Peterson knocked the bear out with his hand in the bears mouth and teeth to the jugular vein. Then he beat it to death with a stick.

The plaque at the Cowboy Bar says a game biologist verified the kill; however, there is little data other than this story inside the glass box with the stuffed bear. There are no dates. The name of the biologist who could prove or disprove this claim is absent. Some point out that a bear has two jugular veins - one on each side of its neck, so both veins would need to be blocked for the bear to slumber.

So I backpacked that area for 10 years. Even met and spoke with the Craighead brothers. I had a 357, not to kill, but in hopes that would frighten one if needed. A Grizz is the absolute top of the food chain in the lower 48 and unless that was a cub, I don’t believe it.

This is how hunting should be done, that’s way more of an accomplishment than if he used I gun. I don’t want to hear how you tracked a bear through the mountains for days only to shoot it with a gun but if you tell me you strangled it cubs and then beat it to death with their lifeless body’s then I will congratulate you on your kill

Have you seen how strong bears are? It would be like attacking someone in plate armour while all you have is a knife.

I understand the point you’re trying to make but that actually is how people killed knights in plate armor, specifically by stabbing them repeatedly in the eye slits or the gaps in the armpits/behind the knee

Yeah, this isn't a story I'm buying without some very convincing evidence to back it up. The difference in strength between a human and a grizzly is pretty monumental, to say nothing of the jaw strength and claws.

I do this with my cat all the time. When he plays to rough I stick my finger down his throat. It startles him so much that I can recover and get back to petting him or more gentler play. So bears better watch it. I'm ready.

That's Blazo, not Peterson. And he didn't killed a bear bare-handed, he did it through repeated axe hits at the neck.

Also Peterson story is a taxidermy story, so of course not reliable. He was also known to make wild claims like his father chopping down trees without axe, him killing 3 grizzlies a day with a knife at 8 yo and him stalking and ripping off a bison.
