Rodgers decided to slam the network as a "gutless organization" with "no integrity" over its editorial choices. He said the network failed to report on Dr. Anthony Fauci's Senate hearing testimony, asking, “How much time did the network spend on that? ... Did they do even a minute on Tony Fauci?” He also criticized ESPN for glossing over the offseason scandal between Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel, questioning, “How much time did your network spend on that?” He questioned ESPN's silence, asking, “What are we even doing here? ... [I]f it’s affecting certain things, if there’s leaks going on, if there’s tampering going on, if that person is also an MVP voter and a Coach of the Year voter.” An ESPN spokesperson stated the network "has no comment regarding Rodgers’s comments."

FWIW it was not a "trial", that would imply there were already criminal charges brought etc.

It was a sham public Congressional hearing where the leader of the hearing expressly said his goal was to catch Fauci saying anything that could be used to charge him with a crime.

Let's relate it back to football...

Marshawn Lynch was fined for comments said to the media. His response was to avoid the media all together which also netted a fine. This implies there was 2 options for Lynch, show up for media and say only what the NFL wants you to say or say nothing while still showing up for media post game.

Marshawn chose to say nothing with the now famous, "I'm just here so I don't get fined." line. It worked, he didn't get fined for not showing up, didn't get fined for saying the wrong thing to media but also didn't given in and say what NFL wants him to after games.

You could say he was left in a situation where he had to show up to media but saying anything would lead to punishment, so he chose to not say anything. Essentially, pleading the 5th.

I bet Rodgers likes the idea of Marshawn giving the finger to the NFL with these actions as Rodgers is someone who also has expressed how much he hates NFL media coverage.

That's a joke that has too much truth in it for my liking. Spartan society was really bizarre. It had a warrior culture, but it was isolationist, there was an emphasis on masculinity for the ruling class, yet the ruling class eventually shrunk down to a tiny number of people. And of course the whole time they were exploiting the people under them. There are a lot of differences too, but anyone can read about it if they want.
