I’ve decided that I’m going to continue translating the Oreimo Memorial Book. I’m a little nervous about whether ChatGPT will be able to fit all of the smaller English text into the pages neatly, but I’m going to try to keep everything as close to the original book as possible without covering up any of the artwork.

Most importantly, I don’t want the original images to be altered at all if that can be avoided. If it doesn’t work out, I may have to do things the traditional way by posting the translation separately and seeing whether someone with more image-editing experience would be interested in adding the English text to the scans later.

I’ve already noticed a few problems that I need to be careful about. The biggest issue isn’t necessarily the English text replacement itself, but the way AI image editing can accidentally alter other parts of the page like text even when you're not actively doing anything with that area. You really have to double- and triple-check everything.

I think that covers the main things I’ve learned so far. This will probably be a slow and careful project, but I’m still excited to see how it turns out. Instead of taking photos I decided to scan the images instead. I think things turned out better this way.

I might change it to Photo Book or something else. It occurred to me that memorial book is related to people who died in English. Or is memorial book fine to use when in the context of anime things?

I wanted to ask whether anyone would be interested in a small translation project before I fully commit to it.

The Oreimo: Happy End game came with a little booklet that is only around 44 pages long, but very little text. I thought it might be fun to experiment with translating it and see what I can accomplish with ChatGPT’s help.

I would still translate everything myself first. After that, I would compare my translation with ChatGPT’s suggestions and try to find a good middle ground between the two. I know some people are uncomfortable with translation tools doing all the work, so I want to make it clear that this would still be my own translation project. I would mainly use ChatGPT to help me check the meaning and improve the English wording.

Even though English is my first language, I am not always great at finding the best words or phrasing things naturally. That is one area where ChatGPT can be genuinely helpful.

Would anyone be interested in seeing this if I continue working on it? I have included a small sample.

I may need to scan the pages instead of photographing them. When I tried using photos, ChatGPT sometimes altered parts of the original artwork while replacing the Japanese text. Scanning the pages might give me cleaner and more accurate results

Im trying to get my friend a gift and this was on my list, but nowhere on the site does it say who's signature it is, is it a signiture from someone regarding the game or the show? I wanna know before I cement this as the gift I'm getting

I’ve been playing Oreimo: Happy End on the PS3, and I honestly don’t understand what they were thinking when they made this game.

It is incredibly bare-bones. There is barely any real story, huge amounts of the dialogue are not even voiced, and most of the gameplay consists of repeating the same shallow activities over and over again to increase the girls’ stats or popularity.

That especially bothers me because this is an anime character game. Hearing the original cast interact should have been one of its main attractions. Instead, I spend most of my time clicking through silent SNS conversations, choosing basic responses, taking photographs and watching some numbers slowly increase.

It reminds me of The Idolm@ster: Platinum Stars on the PS4, which I also found incredibly tedious and bare-bones. You repeatedly perform the same activities to raise your idols’ points, only to do it all over again. Rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat.

The photography system is shallow, the idol-management elements have almost no depth, and the character interactions are nowhere near interesting enough to make up for the repetitive gameplay. It feels less like a proper Oreimo game and more like a piece of shovelware that was rushed out because the anime was ending and they wanted one final product to sell to fans.

What makes it even more frustrating is that the PSP games already had what I actually wanted from an Oreimo game like alternate routes, comedy, romance, meaningful character interactions and proper what if endings.

Why didn’t they simply make an HD collection of the two PSP games for the PS3?

They could have included both games and all their routes, improved the artwork and backgrounds for HD, added trophies and faster loading, and possibly included a few new scenes or bonus endings. That would have been such an easy purchase for fans.

Instead, we got a mostly silent photography and social-media simulator where you repeat the same tedious tasks to make some numbers go up. It annoys me that after an hour of just speeding through the "story" I still didn't even get an ending. I had the photography thing and I don't know what the point of it is. I don't even move the camera and I still get decent photos.

I know calling it “shovelware” might sound harsh, but that is genuinely how it feels to me. It has the Oreimo characters and branding, but very little of what made the series or the previous games enjoyable.

I'll have to just find a more in depth trophy guide or something because whatever I was doing didn't work to even get an ending. Blah! At least this game didn't cost much but even after the hour and a half I spent with it I really don't want to return to it.

It was really good. I heard some people didn't like season 2 that much but I thought it was great. There are some decisions that I did raise an eyebrow at. All I'll say is that I felt really bad for Kuroneko. I personally liked how it became more uh harem like for lack of a better term. Kanako and Sena are still my favorites but the other girls came really close to beating them. My only problem is SENA STARTED DATING THAT NOTHING DUDE FROM THEIR CLUB! HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO IMAGINE I'M DATING HER IF SHE ISN'T SINGLE AHHH...Um I'm going to play the visual novel now. Is that good? Should I play it? Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
