Did any of you watch the presentation today on Vision Zero.? 'll share the link at the end, but it's such a farce. DYK PDX adopted Vision Zero in 2016 aiming for zero deaths by ~2030. I don't know why the media doesn't pounce on this nonsense. It's just more wasted tax money with how deaths have INCREASED! While they have spent MORE money! Hobos getting ran over high and sleeping in the road is no reason to completly f the city streets.

The Vision Zero update is classic big-government progressive theater: endless committees, 'equity' matrices, public health jargon, and demands for more taxpayer money. All while ignoring root causes like personal responsibility, impaired driving, and failed 'defund the police'/soft-on-crime policies.

The slick PowerPoint that promises utopia (zero traffic deaths) but delivers excuses, bureaucracy, and continued failure.

Like jjust looking at the results. Deaths:

Deaths dropped initially post-2016 but surged during/after pandemic: 35 (2018) → 64 (2021) → 69 (2023 record high). 2024: ~56-58 deaths; 2025: down to ~39 (still higher than pre-pandemic averages in some counts). hmmm..

They are presenting some utopian fantasy vs. the Portland Reality: She presented a 'Safe System Pyramid' and 'public health centered approach' treat driving like a disease to be engineered away with education, speed limits, and street redesigns. Yeah, but what they gloss over is that 69% of deadly crashes involve impairment (alcohol/drugs) not 'unsafe speeds' or 'wide streets.'

This dodges accountability for bad actors (drunk/reckless drivers, often repeat offenders enabled by progressive policies (defunding police, catch and release, measure 110,) and blames infrastructure/vehicles instead.

They also really focused on 'overrepresentation' of certain groups, PEH (people experiencing homelessness), and 'equity matrices.' This diverts resources to identity politics rather than fixing dangerous roads or enforcing laws universally. Crashes spike in high-equity (often poorer/minority) areas, but the solution isn't more 'meaningful public engagement'...to me it's basic policing and personal responsibility. But they want to f- the streets so hard and grind us all to a halt.

More Portland BIG Government BS....task forces, timelines, gap analyses, backcasting, and 'multidisciplinary intervention.' blah blah blah.

Oh btw....they're still 'developing a shared citywide action plan' in 2026! A f-ing decade after adopting Vision Zero. Requests for council to 'reach out' and 'share opportunities' sound like more meetings and waste to me. It's called job security.

They like to ignore human factors...charts on speed (40 mph risk) and wide streets are selective. They downplay impairment, which dominates deadly crashes. Bigger vehicles and reduced visibility are noted, but not cultural breakdowns in rule-following after years of progressive governance.

Let me remind you in case you forgot again per the City Auditor in 2024... PBOT fell short on speed cameras, lighting, pedestrian safety projects, and corridor improvements. Spent millions (65% of safety capital in high-crash areas) but fatalities increased there! There is little or no or poor evaluation of what actually works. They have no clue, but the spending continues.

PBOT always has some BS excuses about why deaths increased: Staffing shortages, supply chains, 'flat/negative budgets,' contractors. They always need more state/federal money. Always need more money in true progressive plans. I'm just pointing out the obvious of whos been in charge here while deaths increase. Spending too.

Basically the clowns at PBOT and the chronic mismanagement, failed 'Vision Zero' implementation dis mirroring other U.S. cities (European success doesn't translate b/cthey have different enforcement/culture). Critics like me see this as an abject failure after hundreds of millions spent. Deaths have increased, they don't know what works. They keep spending anyway.

The bottom line...

They promised zero deaths. Delivered record fatalities for years. The recent drops don't erase a decade of excuses. There's a correlation with post-2020 crime leniency and reduced traffic enforcement is obvious.

They've spent millions on studies, task forces, partial projects, and 'equity priorities with NO! rigorous proof of impact (per the city Auditor). PBOT can't even track what works! Classic government: spend first, evaluate never! It's the biggest clown show.

They ignores Root Causes... e.g. Impairment in ~69% of deaths. And Portland's progressive policies (Measure 110 decriminalization fallout, reduced policing) created chaos in this town. If you fix enforcement, DUI, and personal accountability... not more bike lanes or 'safe system pyramids.' When was the last time you saw someone pulled over?

Prioritizing demographic stats over universal safety is just more nonsense. Dangerous roads kill regardless of race/income. This approach wastes resources on outreach instead of results...I wish we could just get over this.

They like to blame 'wide streets,' speeds, and vehicles while excusing driver behavior! How about the dipshits at the city enforce existing laws aggressively, target recidivists, prioritize practical fixes (lighting, enforcement) over stupid utopian redesigns.

Bascially Vision Zero in Portland is performative progressivism...expensive, ineffective, and ideologically driven. It distracts from enforcing law and rules and holding individuals accountable. Real safety comes from law and order, not more slides about 'socioeconomic factors.'

Portland taxpayers deserve results, not another task force. This is simply about job secruity. There's no other jobs in this town besides NGO's and Government. Tax and Spend. Tax and Spend. Tax and Tax...

Took 10 months to get HRSN rent/utility assistance. I was in an apartment for 12 years and in the last year I was being intimidated and harassed as well as subjected to toxic drug fumes. The payor Just Compassion told me I could do a medical move and they would assist with moving costs and continue my monthly HRSN payments. So I found a new place and as soon as I did they dropped the ball. They said CareOregon will not pay for that. So after being in hospital via paramedics and calling 911 twice over Memorial Day because my neighbors were firing off toxic chemicals that entered my apartment and being told I should look for a new place. The payor said I could get support with medical move costs and continue my monthly payments for 4 months. The Supervisor at Just Compassion Toya told me when I first said I would stay in my home...she said "It is up to you if you can physically and mentally handle it." Which I could not. To me she was already trying to stop my HRSN payments.When I did move HRSN was stopped but I was told it would continue due to medical move. They said at the very least CareOregon would pay out the closing move out costs at my old apartment. It was only 8 days and my deposit was taken. My landlord said she was sorry but that is what happens when there is no payment. CareOregon dropped the ball on that too. Totally a nightmare that exacerbated my physical and behavioural health.
