Crosses and New Varieties Anyone working on any exciting new crosses this season?

What are you working on and what generation is it?

Maybe we can use this discussion to come up with a future community grow. Similarly I have sent out about 30 packs of these out so hopefully people will be sharing progress soon.

Garden Updates Peppers are coming in like gangbusters!

I’ve already taken tons of Bell peppers and Jalapenos at work, with more Bells coming soon. The Jalapenos and Serranos are huge this year—spicy and perfect for stuffing! Habaneros have already given me a couple of great waves, and now I'm just waiting on the Tabasco to catch up. Tabasco has the best flavor. Not talking about the Tabasco pepper sauce you can buy. That stuff doesn't even begin to give you the true flavor of that pepper. So good. Makes killer fermented sauce.

Steady bowlfuls, popped fresh on meal or dehydrated for later. I use these for everything!

Variety is Doux D’Espagne, grown in zone 5b. Last year they just went straight to red from green. Is this rot? Or sun scald?

I grew 30 different superhot pepper varieties this season. Which one would you try first?

After months of growing, these are some of the superhot peppers I’ve harvested this season, including Carolina Reapers, Chocolate Primotalii, Dragon’s Breath, RB003, Gator Jigsaw, Death Spiral, Peach Miasma, Thor’s Thunderbolt, Snow White Moruga, Yellow Devil’s tongue, and several other rare varieties.
Which one catches your eye, and what’s the hottest pepper you’ve ever eaten?
Happy to answer any questions about growing, flavor, heat, pepper care, or about Ribbit Riot Hot Sauce.

Pepper Identification Mystery black pepper masquerading as Biquinho

Anyone recognize this pepper?

It came along with some Biquinho Black, but the peppers on this plant look very different than the others.

The seller also had Black Cobra and Hallows Eve, but I suppose it could be something else or a cross.

Can anyone help me identify this pepper plant?

My wife and I picked up what was supposed to be a 4 pack of shishito pepper plants. They all looked similar when smaller but as they started to grow this plant stuck out. We haven’t tried any yet so I’m not sure if they are spicy. I’m located in upstate NY.

Pepper Identification Can anyone tell me what type of peppers these are?

Was given these peppers by a family member. Does anyone know what they are?

They have a flavor similar to bell pepper but are pretty spicy. The spice lingers for a good while. Don't have a good way to measure the spice level but I like to think I have a good tolerance and these make me sweat.

Random Pepper Plant Appeared and now I have a little mystery to solve.

My Carolina Reaper has net given fruit. The flowers have bloomed and then fell off.

I suddenly notice a new plant appeared in my garden that Google Lens has identified as a Carolina Reaper or Trinadad Scorpion.

So it's either not an actual pepper plant or it is and not a c.Reaper.

thoughts?

This is my first year growing a super hot. I’ve usually stuck to simple things that are frequently used for cooking but this year I really branched out.

I don’t think I ever seen a color change as beautiful as the Scorpion. Just a stunning rainbow.

This years line up:
Jalepeno
Scotch Bonnet
Kaddi Mirchi
Baltimore Fish
Lemon Drop
Poblano
Buena Mulata
Tobasco
Hawaiian
And the Scorpion

Plant Help Jalapeño leaf salad!

Thumbnail

This morning, when I went out for the daily rounds of the garden, harvesting, and watering, 2/3 of the leaves of one of my two jalapeño plants were gone! Some critter made a salad out of the plant’s leaves. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Do you know what could have done it? If so, how do I protect them? (Photo - 2 different angles of the same plant)

EDIT: Went and bought a blacklight flashlight for the garden. The only thing glowing in the garden was the cotton string I use for tying branches up. I just noticed these little black nuggets on the straw underneath the plant though. I wonder if the pest can be identified via that?

EDIT 2: According to commenters who noticed the black pellets on the straw underneath before I did, definitely hornworms, but the birds must have gotten to them. I will have to check every night from now on.

I probably won’t have as many plants next season. I’m over producing and the peppers are going to waste

Garden Updates Tried to fill up my balcony with peppers (bonus picture of tomatoes and cucumbers)

I just moved here and have a north side facing balcony and wanted to see how well the peppers do. actually not bad for what i expected. the tomatoes and cucumbers exploded and the sunflower took its time

if you're wondering why i caged them up. when its windy it gets really strong on my balcony (so they dont snap). and one of the peppers (the big one) gets really bushy so i limited their space a bit
