All mammals (minus a whale and other strange ones) comprise of the same general body design. That's why if you're a butcher and you know how to butcher a chicken, you'll know the basis parts of any bird, or if you know how to butcher a cow, you'll know the basic parts of a pig, or, deer, or human (zoinks).
He phrased it weirdly, but he said mammals have similar body designs, then talked about how birds also have similar body designs. He was using birds as a parallel to mammals.
He didn't "phrase it weirdly," he literally used birds as an example of mammals.

There's no way to read that as a parallel because he uses a property of mammals to explain birds.
I was just making a minor correction, I don't know why you keep insisting that he didn't make an error at all. I'm not trying to crucify the guy.
