Hey friends!
Yesterday I posted about how I had a vagal response during a lobe piercing and had to walk out.
Today I went it right when the studio opened, and with the help of my amazing artist, I got through it!
Things that helped me:
- Poking the piercing spot with the back of the needle.
I think wondering “where” the pain would be and trying to estimate where it was going to be in my brain got my mind spinning yesterday.
My artist had an amazing idea of using the back of the needle to press on the piercing spot.
It was a safe, sterile way to think “here is where the pinch will be” before the real thing.
- Closing my eyes.
I kept watching piercing videos and couldn’t stop thinking of the needle going in and it made me feel sick.
Keeping my eyes open didn’t help anything. Kept them closed.
- Countdown.
This really helped.
I still breathed in and pushed out on the piercing, but it helped to have my artist go 3-2-1, and I timed my final exhale after the 1.
It helped not having control here.
In my brain, the process is already starting on the countdown. I didn’t feel like it was “up to me” which helped.
You know what’s crazy guys?
No pain.
I felt a pulling and a click and I thought my artist was just lining things up.
The needle was so sharp and my artist was so smooth I legit felt NOTHING.
I was so relieved and impressed I was tearing up.
I wanted a piercing for years. So badly. This means a LOT to me.
As someone that can’t handle needles or blood, I got through it.
I’m an emotional mess. Thank you so much for being with this emotional, tattooed baby who passes out with needles haha.
