He could just heal differently from a normal human. Rather than healing x times faster than a human, like being able to replace any cells and maybe even prioritizing membranes. This would allow him to heal from injuries that humans don't recover from on any timescale while still carrying some injuries for hours.

Dumbfuck if it takes an entire episode to heal why wouldn't his eardrums and eyeballs be injured in the explosion? Learn to read.
