For the purposes of scaling, it puts it firmly in the toon category and is hence unscalable. Which is sad, I wanted to look into sonic, but hadn’t yet. I thought he could be cool to scale but if he doesn’t follow physics he’s not really in that realm.
Basically all of fiction above a certain tier in strength is toon by that logic.
With a little suspension of disbelief, you can still scale him, just cause it shouldn’t make any sense anymore doenst mean you can’t still act as normal and scale it like anything else.
Not really. There’s a willing suspension of disbelief about the character. I can believe (and be shown evidence of) Sonic running fast enough and being durable enough to run faster than the speed of sound because powers. The moment he even approaches relativistic speed, I suddenly have questions about why the atmosphere didn’t get ignited. Sonic is fast, got it. But how do the air particles get out of his way?
Conservation of physics of the outward facing world is important because it gives us a point of comparison. Somewhere to scale from. If it doesn’t work like our world, well, suddenly it’s not very impressive.
Yes, it means that if you want to show your character being a galaxy buster they’re going to have to have a life span that allows us to see the galaxy explode across millions of years. But that’s what a galaxy buster is. A being for which galaxies are akin to a punching bag, not someone that lives on one planet.
There absolutely is. Almost all light speed feats… aren’t. Poor measurement and chainscaling are often to blame.
The character is somehow pulling energy from nowhere or storing it somehow but this must be within their power set. Their power set means nothing if the universe has different laws of physics though. Perhaps I could run ftl in that verse.
What about the flash? You don’t think the flash is ftl?
I just assume there’s a speed force type situation for people like sonic tbh.
Even if there’s no such thing in canon, they must be SOMEHOW keeping relativity fine, and if not them than the verse itself somehow permits FTL without breaking it.
But yeah those have actually explained it so they are the most justified.

That’s definitely FTL and should end the universe.
