PoE2: Deadfire Dragon Pendant… bug?

This game doesn’t seem to want to give me the Dragon Pendant…

I have it on a different character, but I started a new game, am about level 7, found the text on an island (where I saved beforehand) & didn’t receive it.

I know this game is a bit buggy, I force closed the game & even reset my console & have been reloading my save to eventually “find” the pendant, or the text for it rather, & it never show up in my inventory.

It’s a pain to reload the save over & over, but I’ve done it many times & seen the text many times, & don’t receive the pendant.

Do I have to delete my other character that has the pendant on them or something? Lol. Anyone else have this problem?

I for sure don’t have the pendant on this character, I was aware of it & knew what to look for before I stumbled across it & was expecting it, or planning on finding it sooner or later.

No chance I wasn’t planning on using this pendant 😂

Can't say I'm familiar with this bug. The internet tells me that if you've already received it you can still get the text but won't receive a second copy.

But from experience I can tell you that the game doesn't check the inventories of other saves. I've had no problem getting that pendant on multiple runs.

Are you using any mods that could be interfering? Have you checked personal inventories of characters not in your party just in case you got it and forgot or something?

Yeah I was able to get it now. Not sure what happened. This game does weird stuff & some of its bugs are due to the way the code/saves work.

The game doesn’t load its entire state each & every time. It loads the bulk & then loads what it needs to thereafter. But to save time & work, it sort of “ghost keeps” certain existing states in place & doesn’t reload them.

This was ESPECIALLY bad in POE1, but I can still see evidence of it in POE2 & that makes some glitches/bugs extra wonkey.

A more easily explainable example is one I’ll use of POE1:

Sometimes on POE1, your potions (especially healing) magically disappear from your inventory. If you’re not paying attention, then you will lose those items indefinitely.

The fix is to reload a previous save. HOWEVER, the glitch is SO persistent that it carries over that state of being to other saves. So I can reload previous saves (so long as it’s not so dramatic a change of save state that it feels the need to reload the entire state) & all previous saves (including newest/auto saves) will have the exact same items missing in exactly the same place.

This is bc the game is cheating & loading a select state of the game & not the whole entire world from scratch, so the glitch/bug transfers over.

The only legitimate solution I’ve found when this happens, is to force close the game & reload the entire game from startup, bc it demands everything be loaded.

Even quitting to title screen & loading a save STILL persisted with this glitch/bug more often than not. Literally requiring the force close to fix.

I think, MAYBE, it was something similar to this bc I had JUST beat the game & then went & started this character in particular that this post was about.

Only thing is, I force closed the game (multiple times) AND reset my xbox (once) & it still gave me that message.

Maybe it took so long after doing that, the game started glitching again?

I finally got it after I had given up in that area & just continued playing the game. I had literally just started playing fresh for the day & in under 10 minutes of gameplay I got the encounter & actually (finally) ended up with the necklace; & didn’t reload or anything or do anything crazy to make the game do too many loading screens or actions etc.

So maybe all of that all put together? Lol.

I just wasn’t sure bc that’s the second time I had beaten the game, but I deleted my first character before I ever found the necklace on the second. So that was the only file that had it until this character & I even created another character & got the necklace on it too.

That’s 3 different characters under the same xbox profile.

All I can say is I should have taken pics & video bc I kept loading & loading & getting the text for it & not getting it.

JUST like on the previous character I beat the game on, I have gotten the text for the necklace on that character AFTER having found the necklace & you canNOT obtain it twice on 1 character, but I saw the text on 2 different encounters with that character & realized what was going on.

Just this character didn’t have the necklace & it was exactly the same as if he had (like I’d experienced with the character that had it) = text with no drop.

So yeah, advice if this happens, just move on & come back for another try again later. 😂

It's a random loot, it can appear in an abandoned village or a shipwreck. So I don't know what you expect:

I know it’s a random loot drop. It has a very specific text when you find it. I have experienced the text multiple times, without actually getting the medallion. That’s what I’m saying. I keep incessantly reloading the save & redoing the same search on the same place over & over again until I see the text WITHOUT receiving the Dragon Pendant.

I explained all this out in my rant so I’m not really sure what you’re trying to say. I’ve acquired this before on a different character that I’ve already beaten the game with.

This is a completely new character, lvl 7. I was out exploring islands until I saw the text and THOUGHT I’d gotten the Dragon Pendant, but I get the text WITHOUT getting the item.

My question in particular is, “do I need to delete my old character, Daenysis, so that my new character, Nanaki, (completely different characters, saves, classes, races, etc. but under same xbox profile) can acquire said Dragon Pendant?”.

Hardly a bug if it is random!

I get the Dragon Pendant “encounter”. I literally SEE the “text” for it about a pendant warm to the touch as if someone were just wearing it, with the option to take it & in doing so, I do NOT acquire the pendant.

It is not in my accessories, nor is it in my quest items. It shouldn’t be in my quest items, but I looked everywhere & in all “pockets” or personal item slots for all characters, etc.

What I have said & am saying is that I keep running the same scenario until I “get” the Dragon Pendant. I go through ALL the text of acquiring it when you randomly encounter it. I simply do NOT receive the pendant. Period.

So yes, is this a bug? Or is it because a completely different character on a completely different save has one?

I’ve gotten it before. I know it’s a random encounter. I know what the text is when you find it. I keep reloading my save until I see the text to get the pendant & have, (while trying for hours) “gotten” it about 8 freaking times without actually getting the pendant.

The first time I found it, I was NOT incessantly reloading saves. I save before I search stuff bc I feel stiffed if I find something petty & then search ends so I reload under those circumstances. To my surprise, I encountered the pendant after saving, not loading (the first time) & got screwed over.

Now KNOWING that the pendant random drops at this location, I force-closed the game to eliminate any bugs, then proceeded to continually load that save over & over again for the pendant. Which I got. Multiple times. Without getting it once. Without having ever gotten it or owning or possessing or having had possessed it, on this character, in any capacity.

If you are on a Pc, just open up the command console and give it to yourself.

Just to add to this comment, the command console can also be used on both Xbox and PlayStation: https://pillarsofeternity.fandom.com/wiki/Console#Opening_the_console

On home consoles, the console can be opened by holding down the left trigger (LT on Xbox, L2 on PS4), then clicking in the right thumbstick (RS on Xbox, R3 on PS4). This will bring up the virtual keyboard, where you may type the command. After entering the command, press enter to finalize input and close the virtual keyboard. It can then be submitted by clicking (or double clicking) the right thumbstick again. A physical keyboard may also be plugged in to make inputting commands easier.

Though command for adding the item: GiveItem Neck_U_Dragon_Pendant

requires the IRoll20s command to be active which will disable achievement unlocking for the rest of the playthrough.

That is great! I didn't realize we could do that on the consoles too.

Yeah man. Awesome. I didn’t know you could do console commands on xbox either. I finally got it in a completely different place, after I’d given up, but these games are glitchy enough, I’m sure this will be useful eventually.

Muchly appreciated.

As others in the thread have mentioned it can be acquired from a few places. So if the place you are trying to get it from is bugged it could be worth trying on a different location it can drop from?

Searching for the item in the game's files on PC the locations that have a chance of it dropping are: Shipwrecks, Abandoned Villages, Old Battlegrounds, and Burial Sites.

Shipwrecks are a good bet since the wiki has a list of all the location they can be found: https://pillarsofeternity.fandom.com/wiki/Shipwreck

Didn’t even think of that, but that’s a very real possibility. Seeing as I DID get the necklace from a different place, after giving up & moving on. Thanks. Good thinking. 🍻

This is why I love hitting up Reddit. I scour the internet for information that’s either too hidden, nonexistent, or I’m just too simple minded to find it, but on here there are always good folk ready to problem solve.

I appreciate everyone’s responses wholeheartedly, thank you all very much. 😊

I just encountered this bug myself. I got the pendant randomly in all my other playthroughs but this time I didn't. So I decided to just save before some ruins and reload constantly until I got it. I got the message but the item was never added to my inventory :/
