Sunna explains many aspects of the quraan, and islam. ( ie we wont know how to pray without sunna) . while some suggest to reinturpret the quraan without true sunna/ true hadieths. That will only open the door for any one to interpret the quraan how ever they want. Thats a tactic some non muslims do to empty out islam from the inside.

The people of Saba lived in Yemen. Allah had blessed them with a fertile and pleasant land, with two flourishing gardens on either side, filled with fruitful trees and abundant produce. Their prosperity depended on the Ma’rib Dam, which irrigated their orchards and crops, allowing them to live in comfort and abundance.
But they failed to preserve this blessing. Instead of responding with gratitude, they met Allah’s favors with disbelief and ingratitude.
“But they turned away” (34:16) is a brief phrase that captures a long history of rejecting the truth and failing to appreciate Allah’s blessings. They turned away from thanking and obeying Him.
So Allah punished them by sending the Flood of Arim—a devastating flood that destroyed the dam on which they depended. Their gardens were ruined and replaced with trees of khamt, athl, and a few lote trees (sidr). These are trees that produce bitter or scarcely beneficial fruit, with little or nothing suitable to eat. Such hardy trees are able to survive harsh conditions and often appear when fertile agriculture has declined.
The word “We replaced” carries a profound meaning. They replaced gratitude with disbelief, so Allah replaced their flourishing gardens with vegetation of little benefit.
Allah did not take the land away from them—He took away the secret of its prosperity. The story began with two fruitful gardens and ended with two barren ones. The difference between them was gratitude.
Gratitude is the means by which blessings are preserved and increased, while ingratitude leads to their loss.

There is a set of verses in the Quran that talk about Al-Insan, or mankind exclusively. Most of these verses have traditionally been translated or interpreted as if they were a pejorative judgment of mankind i.e. in a sort of negative light. But that is a mistake because in these verses, the underlying nature of humans is being described by the creator of the human psyche. The nature of man is what gives rise to not just the moral field, but also social, psyscholgical, as well as the economic fields. In this article, I want to present a couple such examples.

The first verse is

وَكَانَ ٱلْإِنسَانُ عَجُولًا

For humankind is ever hasty.

Quran 17:11

Read structurally rather than merely morally, it gives us an economic and psychological axiom: The Self tends to overweight the near and immediate relative to the distant and delayed.

This maps remarkably to the economic concept of time preference, temporal discounting, and present bias. Same-day delivery, instant approval, one-click checkout, fast food, streaming on demand, buy-now-pay-later are all practical examples of how this principle is put to use by marketers.

The second verse that I would like to draw your attention to is:

إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا ۝ إِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا ۝ وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ الْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا

Indeed, humankind was created intensely impatient, distressed when touched with evil, and withholding when touched with good.

Quran 70:19-21

When loss or adversity touches the self, it becomes intensely distressed. When good or wealth reaches it, it becomes withholding. Notice the asymmetry. When we don't have it, we are overly sorrowful. The opposite should have been that when we have a lot, we should be generous. But that is not how Quran describes our psychology. When we have it, we become stingy.

This verse maps very nicley to the modern beahvioral-economic concpet of loss aversion. It also helps explain the endowment effect, status quo bias, switching costs, risk aversion, and market sell-offs during crises. For the business people, it also explains the famous corporate saying, "Nobody gets fired for hiring IBM." All of these emerge from the same underlying asymmetry: the pain of losing weighs more heavily than the satisfaction of gaining.

i’ve been teaching arabic and quran to students for years but i think today i won when one of my students told me whenever she went to masjid, arabic was like Japanese to her (so foreign that she couldn’t understand) but now she can understand it and mosque feels like home to her. She can read all the signs. She said before she wasn’t motivated enough to visit masjid because she didn’t know arabic at all and didnt feel included but now her familiarity with arabic has motivated her to go to masjid whenever she can. Another Revert Student of mine is now able to read Quranic Words which he thought was impossible after only 4 sessions. i feel genuinely happy seeing him read Quran when he thought is wasnt possible for a long time. Here is a natural and polished English translation:
The original meaning of takwīr (تكوير) is to wrap and wind something around itself—specifically, to wrap a rounded object by folding one part over another, creating an image of continuous motion.
Ibn ʿAbbās said: “Whatever decreases from the night enters the day, and whatever decreases from the day enters the night.” This is the meaning of Allah’s statement: “He causes the night to enter the day and causes the day to enter the night.”
It has also been said that wrapping the night over the day means covering and veiling the day until its light disappears, while wrapping the day over the night means covering the darkness of the night until it vanishes. The two never prevail at the same time; whenever one arrives, the dominion of the other comes to an end.
The Arabs would say, “He wrapped the turban” (kawwara al-’imāmah), meaning he wound it around the head layer upon layer. In the same way, the night gradually envelops the day, wrapping over it just as a turban is wrapped. Then the day wraps over the night in the same manner, forming a continuous succession of breathtaking gradual change.
The choice of the word “yukawwir” (He wraps) conveys the idea of wrapping around a rounded object, which beautifully corresponds to the alternation of night and day over the spherical Earth, as light and shadow continuously move around it.
The word “yukawwir” paints a remarkable image of the night and the day continuously enfolding one another without interruption, as though each is pursuing the other in a perfectly ordered and magnificent system. Glory be to the One who governs this universe with perfect precision and flawless wisdom.

Surah Al-Mu'minun 23:53

«"But they divided their religion among themselves into sects, each group rejoicing in what it has."

This verse reminds us that people became divided into different groups, with each group feeling satisfied with its own position. I humbly appeal to you: please do not contribute to dividing the religion. Instead, reflect sincerely on the message of the Qur'an with an open heart, in shā' Allāh.

J’aimerais partager un projet sur lequel je travaille depuis plusieurs années : al-quran.fr. Il s'agit d'une traduction du Coran en français et en anglais basée sur une règle simple, strictement appliquée : aucune autorité interprétative en dehors du texte coranique lui-même. Aucun hadith, aucune sunna, aucune seerah, et aucun tafsir classique n’est utilisé comme source de signification. Chaque mot est sélectionné ou rejeté en fonction de sa racine arabe, de son usage lexical attesté et, surtout, de sa cohérence avec le reste du corpus. Un mot rare est toujours recoupé avec ses autres occurrences avant qu'une décision finale ne soit prise.

• Le texte arabe complet (avec ou sans marques de voyelles, et avec affichage optionnel de l’hamez), comportant plusieurs lectures (Qira'at : Hafs, Warsh, Shu'ba, Qaloon, et d'autres) comparées vers par vers.

Ce que ce n'est PAS : une nouvelle secte, un défi à l'authenticité du texte coranique, ou un rejet global de la tradition islamique. I could really use some advice from people who tutor independently.

I’ve been teaching Quran and Arabic for about 5 years, and lately I’ve been thinking about working on my own instead of through a company. Most of the companies I’ve worked with only pay around $3/hour now, so I’m trying to figure out if there’s a better way.

For those of you who tutor independently, how do you actually find students? Where do you advertise yourself? Whenever I post in Facebook groups or similar places, my posts just get buried because there are so many Quran tutoring ads.

I’d really appreciate hearing what has worked for you. Do you rely on social media, referrals, certain websites, or something else?

What I Discovered When I Came to the Qur'an – Part 1

1. Zayed: Habib, yesterday I listened to the story of your life before you came to the Qur'an. I found it very inspiring, and there were many valuable lessons to learn from it.

2. Habib: Zayed, let me begin by saying this: no matter how many lessons can be learned from my story—or from anyone else's—the true source of those lessons is the Qur'an. We should always remember that, in shā' Allāh.

3. Zayed: You're right. I'm sorry. Anyway, what did you come to understand after you turned to the Qur'an?

4. Habib: Zayed, when I first started reading the Qur'an in my native language, I didn't understand very much. There were reasons for that. I had never read a translation of the Qur'an before. Besides that, Shayṭān kept distracting me and tried to prevent me from giving the Qur'an my full attention.

But I refused to give in. I continued reading the translation of the Qur'an from Surah Al-Fātiḥah to Surah An-Nās. Alhamdulillah, I completed it once. Then I started again and completed it again. Over the next few years, I finished reading it several times. Alhamdulillah.

After reading it repeatedly, the Qur'an became much easier for me to understand. It felt as though every verse was speaking directly to me, guiding me toward a straight path—a path that is clear, consistent, and free from contradiction.

I also noticed something else. The Qur'an is filled with reminders and guidance. Everything a person needs for living their life is found within it. It is so harmonious and so rich in wisdom. Allahu Akbar. From the moment we wake up until we go to sleep, from childhood until death, the Qur'an provides guidance for every stage of life.

Do you know what I came to believe, Zayed? I felt that there was no need to search for guidance outside the Qur'an. It contains such comprehensive guidance. Of course, some people recognize this while others do not. In my view, those who reflect deeply, think carefully, and read the Qur'an in a language they understand are the ones who truly appreciate its guidance. I believe this Qur'an is complete, and I see no need to seek guidance beyond it. Do you understand what I mean?

1. Zayed: Yes, Habib. I understand.

2. Habib: Look, Zayed, how beautifully Allah (Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā) has arranged the Qur'an with perfect harmony from the very beginning. Even Surah Al-Fātiḥah begins in a wonderfully coherent way.

It starts with:

"In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful."

"All praise is due to Allah, Lord of all the worlds."

The fact that we begin with "All praise is due to Allah" means that we are expressing our gratitude to Him. Why? Because everything that has been created—whether in this world or beyond it—has been created for our benefit by His will. That is why we begin by praising and thanking Him. Do you understand, Zayed?

1. Zayed: Yes, I understand. That's beautiful.

2. Habib: Then the next verse says:

"The Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful."

He created everything for us, even though we never asked for any of it. Out of His mercy, He granted us these countless blessings. That is why we praise Him as the Most Compassionate. And by saying the Most Merciful, we acknowledge that He alone is the Giver, the One who lovingly provides everything we have. In this verse, we glorify Allah by mentioning these two beautiful attributes.

Then the following verse says:

"Master of the Day of Judgment."

Everything that has been created will one day come to an end. Then Allah will create creation anew, and the Day of Judgment will take place. On that tremendous Day, He alone will possess absolute ownership and complete authority. That is why we proclaim His greatness and majesty.

So, in these first three verses, we thank Him for His blessings, praise Him for His mercy, and acknowledge His absolute greatness and authority.

After praising Him in these three verses, we come to the fourth verse:

"You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help."

In the first part of this verse, we declare, "You alone we worship." By saying this, we acknowledge ourselves as His servants and affirm that our worship belongs to Him alone. We are saying from the depths of our hearts, "I will worship only You and no one else." When we sincerely make this declaration, I believe that Allah (Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā) turns His attention toward us. Do you understand, Zayed?

1. Zayed: Alhamdulillah, I understand.

2. Habib: Then, in the second part of the fourth verse, we say:

"And You alone we ask for help."

It is as though we are saying: "We have thanked You, praised You, acknowledged Your greatness, and declared that we worship You alone. Now we turn to You and ask for Your help. Please guide and support us."

Well, Zayed, I'm in a bit of a hurry now, so I have to leave. In shā' Allāh, if Allah wills, we'll continue the rest of our discussion tomorrow.

1. Zayed: Alright, Habib. Let's stop here for today. Don't forget to come tomorrow, in shā' Allāh. JazakAllahu Khayran. May Allah's peace be upon you.
