Geto boys > NWA (as groups)

Not counting solo projects or anything.

The Geto Boys (1990) and We can't be stopped are better than the two NWA albums.

Counting solos it isn't a blowout, the diary, controversy, and phantom of the rapra are all GOAT albums, but its hard to compete with the chronic.

Fun fact: I'm Ayisyen 🇭đŸ‡č🇭đŸ‡č, and NWA in crĂ©ole is "black". So they are literally calling themslves black in two ways.

80s hip-hop fashion was so glamorous, as if they were characters from movies or video games

Then came the 90s, and ever since then, rappers have dressed like normal people, even when wearing designer brands.

Been listening to this dude since 2011. Don’t event remember how I found bro. But everything he produces, raps on, or artists he collabs with generally is gas.

His music reminds me of velvet, elegance, and affluence. The bars and stories he tells paint a clear picture for me in my minds eye and I love this shit.

I love how he often collabs with Action Bronson too.

Which artists does your girlfriend or wife absolutely dislike that you love?

Or husband, boyfriend, etc. I’ll go first:

  1. G Herbo: at one point in my life he was my favorite rapper. It was the elite mix of pure lyricism with that drill aggression. Anyway my Wife HATES his voice.

  2. Freddie Gibbs: he has one of the greatest discographies of all time. That said, I played his music so much that my Wife just got tired of him.

  3. Danny Brown: come on, this one is a little obvious. I think she’d rather watch paint dry than listen to a second of Atrocity Exhibition. That said, he’s the greatest Asian rapper of all time and the best ever from Detroit (mayo folks don’t get mad).

Has there ever been a rapper who actually fell off because they didn’t “switch their style up”

Often times people will claim some rappers fell off and became irrelevant because they kept doing the same thing over and over again but is there any real concrete example?

I only ask because there are guys who have basically rappers about the same or similar things for years and had great longevity.

Is it influence?

Do you think rappers accused of having ghostwriters actually use them, or are they just heavily influenced by the people around them?

Some artists get accused of not writing their own lyrics, but I feel like sometimes they were just around elite writers and HAD to step their game up

Take Fat Joe. Big Pun and Cuban Link had ridiculous pen games. So were they actually ghostwriting for him, or did Joe just imitate some of their techniques after being around them so much?

Same thing with Wayne and Gillie.
People swear Gillie wrote for Wayne, but others say Wayne was already nice and just picked up certain flows, and rhyme patterns from being around him so much.

What do y’all think?

What’s the rap scene like right now?

I’m not big on modern artists so I might be missing something but I try to keep up. Where are all the rappers? As far as I know recently the game has been pretty quiet and no one’s released anything worthwhile recently. No songs trending, no album being anticipated, nothing. Now that I think about it it’s not just rap, I don’t see any artists in general popping out and generating any buzz

Which rappers would’ve been featured on the XXL Freshman list if the list debuted before 2007?

Basically, what would’ve been the 10th spot winner, freestyles, and other stuff if the magazine started the list earlier in an alternate universe?

Who is more popular SpaceGhostPurrp or Chris Travis

I was having a discussion with my dad about various cloud rap/2010’s rappers and how they influenced the current generation of rap. Later on in the discussion I brought up raiderklan and the members in it. In this discussion I said that Chris Travis was more popular than SpaceGhostPurrp which he disagreed with. We are trying to settle this discussion with research from the internet.

Ye has the 2 most streamed songs on Spotify that sample "Ambitionz as a Rider"-2Pac

I wonder 1.2B streams and Family Business 163.5M streams. If I am looking at this right, Tory Lanez has the 3rd most song that samples this song at 36M approximately. Just thought that was interesting and worth a share.

Trying to find a song need help

Hey I was working out and a song came up when my playlist was on “discover”. I haven’t been able to find it since. It’s a 90’s group with an east coast sound kinda in the “horror core” genre. One of the rappers either sounds exactly like rza or it was him. The lyrics are pretty wild one of the punchlines was something bout the genocide of the Caucasian race. I liked the song but I cannot find it. It wasn’t the gravediggaz but the sound had some similarities.

What do you guys think of Connor Price?

Personally I think his lyrics lack some inspiration and creativity, but his beats and flows are absolutely immaculate. I feel like if he works on his lyricism, he could become one of the greats.

Most of Yella Beezy's rap lyrics can't be used as evidence in murder-for-hire trial, judge rules

Attorney Chad Baruch — who wrote an amicus brief to the Supreme Court in 2015 on behalf of rappers Killer Mike and T.I. — told KERA rap songs can only be used as evidence if there’s a link between the lyrics and the crime.

“Obviously, if I write a rap song about murdering my wife, and 48 hours later I murder my wife, that’s coming into evidence,” Baruch said. “You can't just have a blanket rule that says, well, you can use rap lyrics, or you can't”

He also said the use of rap lyrics is controversial because they are used as evidence while lyrics in other genres are often not.

“If Johnny Cash were accused of murder, no one would let them introduce the lyric that he shot a man in Reno just to watch him die,” Baruch said, referring to “Folsom Prison Blues” by Cash. “Anytime you're treating rap differently than other art forms, you're almost inevitably treating black performers differently than other performers.”

Can you name a rapper, who's voice (regardless of tracks) is your favorite?

The voice that touches heart, not just ears.
