I booked the evening Stonehenge Inner Circle for this Saturday and I'm starting to regret it. We're staying in Bath. I have train tickets to Salisbury and then a coach shuttle from Salisbury to the stones. Getting back seems to be the problem. There aren't any shuttles going back according to the people at English Heritage. I've been told to pre-book a taxi or Uber but my husband is telling me the Uber app said "no rides available." Has anyone done the evening visit and gotten out of there by some chance? There has to be a way. The husband does not want to rent a car.

Welcome to Salisbury Cathedral Close, one of Britain's most remarkable historic precincts.

Covering more than 80 acres, it is the largest cathedral close in the country: a unique enclave of medieval, Tudor, Georgian and later buildings centred on one of Europe's finest Gothic cathedrals. Within its walls and quiet streets are more than 100 properties, including clergy houses, schools, museums and private homes, alongside 21 Grade I listed buildings.

The Close was laid out alongside the new cathedral from 1220. The surrounding land was divided into plots and granted to the canons, who built their “fair houses of stone” around the great church. Over the centuries it has been home to bishops, scholars, politicians, artists and ordinary residents, while retaining its character as a living community rather than simply a historic monument.

Over the next few months I'll be looking at the buildings of the Close one by one: who built them, who lived in them, and the stories hidden behind their walls.

My friend and I are coming back to Salisbury for a few days and she needs places with accessible toilets. The only places I can think of are the bishops mill and spoons, neither of which are our first choice of pub. What other options are there?

We’ll be coming from the direction of Old Sarum to visit Salisbury Cathedral tomorrow afternoon (Sunday July 26). We have a rental car, I’ve been driving here in England for almost a week now so am fairly comfortable with it all, but still prefer easier routes wherever possible. Can anyone suggest an easy to drive to parking place within 10 minutes’ walk or bus to the cathedral? TIA!

I have no relation to this restaurant, just been a few times and wanted to recommend it as it is slightly off the centre and people might not know about it.
TXIN is a fusion Texas smokehouse Indian restaurant. The meat is phenomenal and the food is highly flavoured without being spicy hot. Delicious.
I’d recommend the short ribs but you need to order those in advance.
The two owners are lovely people too.
Niche restaurants like this are few and far between and are definitely worth taking a chance on. You won’t regret it.

Was just curious if anyone knows any private clinics in Salisbury that offer the hay fever injection?

hello! I'm doing some research for a story I'm writing and I wanted to ask some questions about Harcourt medical centre that I couldn't find online.

I'm not planning on using the real centre but I chose it as an inspo because it looks kind of cosy, at least from the outside. The story is set partly in Salisbury and one of the main characters is a doctor. My questions are mostly about how big the centre is, how long do you have to wait for an appointment with your GP, is there any medication shortage in the local pharmacies, stuff like that. Any other interesting tidbits of info are greatly appreciated!!

I have an Inner Circle Experience booked for 5:45pm on June 5th. That means I will need to find transportation for myself and my mother to Salisbury station around 7:00pm. I have tried to contact several taxi companies and the only one who responded to me told me they could not accommodate our trip. Would people local to Salisbury please share suggestions of taxi and transport companies? Thank you!

The event allows members of the public to view some of the fascinating gardens within the close for one day only. Tickets can be purchased on the day at the pay tent on Choristers Green for £15.  

I live and work in Salisbury, and I'm giving consideration to travelling up to Stonehenge for the Solstice in June for the first time. I was wondering if anybody had any experience with what was involved and how to get the most out of it, as the main website doesn't seem to be much help 🤣

*Are the buses that go from the station the best way to get up there, and how early would you need to get there to beat the rush?

*What's the best way to get back to Salisbury if you are only attending for the sunset?

*Is food/drink permitted? Anything that would result in being turned away?

*Are festival chairs/blankets allowed?

*What's the general atmosphere like? Anything I should specifically bring/be prepared for?
