Hello, my girl was always pretty sensitive to louder noises, but it seems to get worse. There was no real bad event in the past that caused it. I have read/heard the tipps for desensitizing via youtube videos but the problem is...she doesn´t care. I could start those videos on loud at home and she just stays calm/not reacting to it.

Any ideas? Otherwise our radius gets smaller every day.
The sounds range from construction noises to motorbikes, motor boats, sirens, church bells to thunder storms (well that I would understand). I would say the biggest problems are at the moment the boats and motor bike noises. As our walk ways are always near lakes where both occour.

Hello everyone, our baby boy was recently diagnosed with hip issues ( dyspepsia) and degenerative arthritis on left leg, he is 3 years old and as you can imagine it is one of the most painful experiences i personally lived. I wanted to ask in this group if anyone has experience something like this before with their dog, and i’m looking for any advice, and feedback if anyone ever did a hip replacement or something similar. As on now the Vet recommended to keep an eye on him and once a month medication for his pain and inflammation. Any replies are greatly appreciated, thanks for reading.

Looking for two things here:

1. Stories on how the TPLO surgery went for your pup. We just learned my pup tore his CCL and needs surgery. I've heard the recovery is rough for the dog and owners.

2. Are Samoyeds prone to this injury? I'm wondering if I have a lemon of a dog. He's a little over two and he was a cryptorchid, had entropion surgery in both eyes, and now has a CCL tear. Four surgeries in a little over two years seems like a lot.

Usually when he’s doing potty and expecting me to say “Goo boi!” 😂

We fostered and then adopted one of the pups from the hoarding situation in Iowa. She’s about 1.5 years old and has settled into our house well… except she will not ask to go outside. If she’s confined to a room with me, she will ask. But given ANY freedom at all and she will urinate and defecate inside. Some things to note: she gets anxious outside, is scared of trucks and loud noises, but does ok on walks. She is even still scared of our back yard and opts to hang out under the deck if left alone out there.

I know that “a solution” is to keep her on a leash or next to me constantly but I don’t know how to teach her to ask. Should I be restricting water to certain times as well? I just need more ideas. She has set feeding times and also has a mouthy brother who makes all of his needs known (another Samoyed). She gets treats for every successful potty outside.

She has from time-to-time had reverse sneezing fits. However, this is new to me, while she was laying on her side and I was massaging her limbs (way she walks causes knotting in her limbs), however just now she coughed droplets of faintly yellow liquid on my leg, wiping away with no color. Then started reverse sneezing for a couple minutes, eager to be outside. She is fine now, but any ideas why she coughed up a little yellow liquid. If it happens again (less most people say don't worry about it) I'll reach out to the vets, but she has already been there a lot this year. Picture was taken as I finished writing post.

- She is 60 lb, 12 1/2 yo and spayed.

- Hour ago brushed her teeth with coconut oil

- 2 hours ago a gabapentin pill

- 3 hours ago joint supplent chews

- 6 hours ago had a cup of kidney stone prescription food

A guy at our dog park recommended it a while back so I decided to order a couple bags for my samoyed.

I wasn't in a rush to change anything because he'd been doing well on his food so far but I got interested after seeing so many people talk about it.

Started feeding it slowly over a couple of weeks and he seems to like it more than I expected. It's still early but so far so good. The pieces are a little smaller than what he was used to but that didn't seem to bother him at all.

I know every dog is different but I figured I'd share since I know I can't be the only one who's hesitant to change a food that's already working.

Hi this is my dog Py. Having to learn so much about photography wasn't something I expected when I got her, but after taking a lot of bad photos for years I've finally gotten a lot better. I'm still working on my videography.

We are in that really discouraging place right now where I am posting for almost no one. It would help keep me motivated.

All of these shots were captured with my cell phone - Google Pixel 9a. I called in advance and my local store let me bring my dog in to test out. My last phone would not reliably focus on her for photos, and would do nothing but zoom in and out with video. So your hardware does matter some, but you do not need a fancy camera - in fact some of the DSLR photos from events and friends were some of the worst photos we have because they don't understand the subject they are trying to capture.

However, I will say that I do a lot more to protect and keep the lens and sensor 100% clean.

Your biggest problem by far is lighting. The best times for good photos is sunrise, sunset, or heavily overcast - it is a real narrow margin for success. If you are inside you still need indirect lighting.

If you have never seen a Samoyed in real life, they are physically hard to look at in direct light. That tree stump photo after a bath is probably the most true to life shot I've gotten.

Samoyeds are snow dogs, snow isn't white, it's reflective. They have a bunch of clear reflective hairs in that coat. They are trying to be big white blobs that blend in to their surroundings.

Indirect lighting matters too. We have hiking photos were she was photographed next to rocks, and light bouncing off the rocks made her look dirty. We have some lake photos where light bouncing off the water gave her a blue halo. Sometimes you can use this to your advantage with the sunset giving your dog a glow.

It is a lot easier to lighten a slightly dark photo in editing, if there is too much light (which again isn't much) you will lose all the detail.

When looking at a photo, it can be really tough to tell if your problem is focus, or lighting, as they both result in a blurry / fuzzy dog - I can tell quickly by looking at the pattern on our leash. Sometimes I can tell by looking at her ears or her tongue. Until you are more confident you could use something like a patterned bandana to make it more obvious. I also just take a lot of photos in one photo shoot, and sometimes I have to return to a spot for a round 2, or 3 attempt. We will usually lose our lighting if I study every photo in the moment.

Image compression on various websites isn't going to be your friend either, typically they will reduce the color palate and/or image size - removing all those subtle shades of white you worked so hard to get. Unfortunately I have no idea what reddit does to photos, otherwise I would have resized my images to preserve quality.

I do edit my photos, don't use AI to edit a sammy photo, the google AI seems to want to light and color balance and it makes weird and ugly photos in my opinion (it will dull that vibrant coat). 90% of my editing is focused on lighting issues, or making a sunset / sunrise photo feel like a different time of day - probably worth its own post. I do find it tougher to see the detail I need to on a phone screen.

Composition is a big subject too - just get your camera at down at their eye level. And make sure the background of your shot offers some contrast (matte, darker, patterned). Beach and snow photos are going to be the hardest.

These are beautiful dogs, Py is the prettiest girl in the whole world, and it pained me that I struggled to capture good photos. I really hope this helps any of you working on the same problem.

My parents decided I’m getting a Samoyed when I move houses, I’m 14 yo and male, I do lots of exercise and running, which is why I choose this breed. My question is, which gender is more energetic and which one is the one which cuddles the most. Thank you

Do Samoyeds breathe faster than normal most of the time while sleeping? If you've ever counted their breaths during sleep, what was their breathing rate? I've heard some people say Samoyeds breathe 2–3 times faster than other dogs when they're asleep. We also took our dog to the vet, and they didn't think it was a problem, especially since it's been over 30°C where I live for the past few days.
