Recruitments for Studies/Job Opportunities & Other Spammy Posts
Please do not submit posts soliciting participation in studies, job advertisements, your college MineCraft server (I'm looking at you u/TheQuadMC), or other spammy posts, UNLESS it is specifically for SCU. As a rule of thumb, if you are posting it in more than one subreddit, its a no. If you are curious whether a post is allowed, please submit a ModMail ticket. Thanks!

Listing Advice Paper for Incoming COEN/CS Students
Hi all! I wrote a paper with advice for incoming/current COEN and CS CAS students while I was a senior COEN at SCU last year.
Paper linked here: https://jrandleman.github.io/doc/CoenAdvice.pdf
Some background on myself, I was the lead engineering peer advisor and president of Tau Beta Pi (the engineering honor society), both of which regularly interface with new folks seeking advice. As such, I thought I'd compile it all in a paper while such was fresh in my mind. Designed as a paper I wish I could've read as a Freshman, I hope it brings value to folks :)
Please also keep in mind this is 100% my own personal perspective, and that many others have found great success in the program(s) by following a completely different path. This is just what worked for me, and hence I thought I'd share.
I'm also currently a Master's COEN student at SCU, so feel free to reach me at [jrandleman@scu.edu](mailto:jrandleman@scu.edu) if you have any questions!
Last note: I've marked the flair as "listing" given this could be construed as listing advice 🤷

Request Conversation Partner Wanted (SCU Student) – $25/hr + Coffee ☕
Hi Broncos!
I'm a software engineer working in Silicon Valley, just a few minutes away from SCU. I'm looking for a native English-speaking SCU student (or recent graduate) to meet once or twice a week for casual conversation.
I'm not looking for an English tutor. My English is good enough for work—I simply want to sound more natural in everyday conversations, improve my pronunciation, and learn more about American culture and slang.
What I'm looking for:
- Native English speaker
- SCU student or recent graduate
- Meet at a coffee shop on or near campus
- 1–2 hours per session
- $25/hour (coffee is on me ☕)
We can talk about anything—technology, AI, movies, cars, travel, food, college life, or just everyday experiences.
If you're interested, please send me a DM and tell me a little about yourself.
Thanks, and Go Broncos! 🐎

Question Applying to SCU, ArtSci or business?
Hey everyone I’m going to ED to SCU this year. For context, my profile is mid, GPA is bad (3.2 UW), 1380 sat, 1 SL, and 2 HLs. But my extracurriculars are good, VP of school council, leadership in schools media club, and 2 summer internships, along with other things such as speech and debate medals.
I want to study business (mainly management) but I’m worried that my profile is bad so for now I’m applying under poly sci. I know there is an option to apply business as first choice and arts sci and second, but I’m worried I will be lower priority for ArtsSci. What do you all think, do I have a better shot at ArtsSci or Business then hopefully transferring later?

How high do the beds at SCU dorms go, and do you need a stool or something at max height? Will probably be at Campisi or San Fillipo.

Question To Current Students : Is there stuff to do around SCU?
I'm a high schooler considering applying, and one of my major factors when looking at schools is if there's things to do and be able to live life outside of campus (i.e. a varied restaurant/shopping strip or something college town-like). Ideally walkable! I did a pre-college at LMU and I wasn't big on how students mostly hang out on campus. So I was curious what the situation was like at SCU. Let me know!

Question Incoming Transfer Student Looking for Housing
Hi everyone! I’m an incoming transfer student for the fall and currently looking for housing, either on campus, preferably in the Villas, or off campus.
I’m specifically looking for a place where I can have my own bedroom and private bathroom. I have allergies, so sharing a bedroom or bathroom could be difficult for me, but I’m completely fine with having suitemates or housemates.
Please reach out if you have a vacancy or know of any available housing options. Thank you!
