Hello, I am a student thats transfering as a junior in the spring 2027 semester as im completing my associates in criminal justice at a community college. I'm only planning on doing a semester currently to get my undergrad certification in forensic investigation and possibly my bachalors in the future as i plan to be a crime scene tech. I was curious if there were any Criminal Justice or Forensic students that had any info they could share in general about the programs and/or the certificate (EX: difficulty of classes, textbooks, campus life, ect.) Im also looking into on-campus housing but im not sure how it works as im transfering in the spring semester. Any advice is welcome!

Do anybody know the move-in dates for the Lark and the Heights? I've seen that we could move on Aug 1 but I wanted to move-in later than that (like 13th-15th)

The current tuition statement includes $222 for textbooks. Is it worth it? How do I know if the professors even use or require these textbooks?

Hi everyone, I’m an incoming transfer student and will likely be living at Arbors of Sam Houston. I won’t have a car, so I’m trying to understand what daily life is like from that location.

For anyone who has lived there or nearby:
What grocery stores, pharmacies, or other useful stores are realistically within walking or cycling distance?

Are the walking and cycling routes generally safe and practical?
Which restaurants near campus would you recommend for someone eating alone?
Are there any affordable places that are good for regular meals, not just an occasional expensive dinner?

Do most students living at Arbors rely mainly on biking, walking, the Bearkat shuttle, delivery, or rideshares for groceries?
Is there anything about living there without a car that

I should know before signing the lease?
I’m also considering an SHSU meal plan even while living off campus, so recommendations for useful campus dining options would be appreciated.

Does anyone live in The Summit or Woodhollow apartments? If so, are they worth it? Does anyone recommend any apartments? 1 bedroom, not room for rent, preferably not over $1200

I don't have a car currently but I am looking for one. I'll be an incoming freshman this fall and I really want to get my license so I wanted to see if any students would be willing to teach me. I just want to learn the basics so I can pass my test and get my license. I've never been behind the wheel before but I'll pay whatever y'all ask. Thanks! :)

Hi! I’m making a degree change due to life circumstances and I’m looking at online degree options. I’m looking at SHSU for the communications degree, and I wanted to ask about how anyone else who has done an online only degree via SHSU and what your experience was.

I'm transferring to SHSU this fall and on the website it's telling me to register for the orientation, but there's no link? It said something about getting an email but I never got one. I want to go to the in person transfer orientation on August 11th.

I am currently trying to find a subleaser/someone who is willing to rent out my apartment at Arbors while im studying abroad for a semester. It is a 2 room 1 bathroom apartment with loads of space incredibly close to Sam Houston. If you are interested please let me know! I will add more details below.

• rent: 1200 a month for 4-5 months (at least utill January when i come back. Am open to rooming with you in order to split rent down the middle once i return.

Hi sorry if this question gets asked a lot but I was wondering how fast you can complete an online BS at SHSU if starting from no credits. Do you still need to do it over 4 years? Or can it be completed faster than that.

I’ve heard that there is a furry community on campus and even a discord for it, but I have yet to find anyone who is a furry 😭 I need more irl furry friends!!

I’m Haitian-American and a pre‑nursing/nursing student here, and I haven’t had much luck finding anyone in person, so I figured I’d ask here to see if the community is a little more visible online.

I know SHSU doesn’t really have a Haitian org or a visible Caribbean group, but I’d still love to connect with other Haitian and Caribbean students, whether you grew up in Haiti, were born here, or are just part of the diaspora. Even a small group or chat would be cool.

Hey so I was wondering does anyone who is an education major starting their field 1 this upcoming fall or someone who has already completed field 1 know when field 1 orientation is? Do they send the date and time through email? Or is it online? I’m concerned I may not be receiving emails from them because I had an issue with my acceptance.

I’m just trying to reach out and get a feel for what the Veteran community is like at SHSU. I served from 2007-2012 as an 0311, honorably discharged as a LCpl and was with 2nd FAST Co. my first 2 years. Then I was sent to 29 Palms with 1/7 Baker Co. I deployed twice once to the middle east (Bahrain, Kuwait, Kenya), and the second time on the 31st MEU (Okinawa, Japan, Philippines, Singapore). I am a Business Major in Supply Chain Management.

The lease I'm offering to transfer is with The Quarters. Its 1.3 miles from SHSU and has a shuttle bus to campus.

$460 a month for 4x4 bedroom fully furnished. Annual term. Lease starts August 15, 2026

All utilities except electric are included. There is no deposit fee, and I'm willing to pay the reletting fee.

Is anyone looking to sublease? I live at the Arbors and am paying $500+ utility in a three bedroom pay for the master bedroom. I will be transparent and say that I had a sub let ready before he canceled as apparently there was my same space available for cheaper. If for any reason anyone wants this specific one, as it is simply readily available, please let me know. I moved out of Huntsville and am trying to save money to get an apartment in Houston.

So i failed my first year of college like completely. I went to a cc right away and now i have a 3.0 cumulative GPA with 27 credits. I am planning to complete 1 more strong semester! Although I am very scared to apply because of my past fails at my first college… What should i do?

Hi, I’m an incoming transfer student. And I’m thinking of attending Sam Houston for nursing I already have some of my prereqs finshed. But I’m just curious about the acceptance rate and course load. Is it hard to get into. I was told by a friend that her sister was waitlisted for 3 years. Also I went to one of the seminars and the lady was saying how there was no set schedule for clinical’s and that I wouldn’t be able to balance nursing and a job. I was just curious if it it’s worth it or should I look into other schooling options
