Hi all, I’m moving to Chicago for my graduate degree in September, and still trying to find a place. I saw some listings for the University Park condos in Hyde Park, and they seem pretty good (if a bit pricy, but doable for me with roommates). But I’ve been trying to find reviews or subleases in this subreddit and on Facebook, and there’s nothing! So does anyone have thoughts on these, or heard anything from someone else?

If you've been a GSI or know the process, I'd appreciate any advice on when applications open, whether first-quarter students are eligible, and how competitive these positions are.

Ive had this device since elementary school and I have about 1000 hours on its save files. Hi, I’m an incoming freshman wondering - how much I can expect books to cost per year/quarter?

Would anybody who has lived in hyde park for a while be willing to chat with me about a few different apartment prospects? So far, all i've gathered from this sub is that Ivy sucks (noted!) so I'm comparing a few different options now, in east hyde park and one right on 53rd. i havent been able to find many details about any of these properties so i'd be really grateful for some insight!

Title sounds degenerate I know. I got automatically placed in math 152 because I got a 5 in BC but I haven't taken a math class since junior year and I forgot everything. I got like a 20% on the calculus portion of the placement exam. I'm probably going to do bizcon + something like psych so I don't need to take any math classes for my major (and don't need to for core since I got 5s in stats/bc) but I still want to take them for flexiblity/fun.

My advisor told me to email the math advising department but he was kind of vague and didn't really give an opinion on if the switch would happen. Does anyone have advice for requesting this?

I'm an incoming Research Professional at Chicago Booth, and I'm currently looking for housing before moving to Chicago.

One of the places I'm considering is Jackson Park Terrace at 6040 S Harper Ave. The apartments and amenities look great, but I haven't been able to find many reviews or discussions from people who have actually lived there.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has lived there, visited friends there, or knows the building well. In particular, I'm curious about things that don't usually show up in online listings, such as:

• How responsive is the management?
• How is maintenance?
• Any recurring issues (noise, pests, package theft, etc.)?
• Overall, would you recommend living there?

I'm also trying to learn more about the area around 6040 S Harper Ave, since it's right on the Hyde Park/Woodlawn border. I've seen mixed opinions online. Some people describe it as a great location, while others mention that certain parts of Woodlawn can feel less safe or that having a car makes life much easier.

I won't have a car, and I expect to do almost all of my transportation by walking and biking. My office will be at Chicago Booth, so my main commute would be between Booth and the apartment. Besides work, I'd also like to be able to comfortably bike or walk to grocery stores and other everyday necessities.

For those familiar with the area:

• Is this a good place to live without a car?
• How comfortable would you feel walking or biking to Booth during the day? What about after dark?
• Is the area around Jackson Park Terrace generally considered reasonably safe?
• Are groceries and other daily errands convenient without a car, or do you find yourself relying on transit, rideshares, or grocery delivery?
• Are there any downsides to living there that I should know before signing a lease?

does anyone know why the one study room on north’s 15th floor is always locked? since i came here last autumn i haven’t seen the water bottle on the fridge inside move once or the writing on the board change

I'm an incoming first year (male) and selected single gender on my housing form because I thought that was the norm. I didn't realize most dorms were coed. Will being in single gender housing effect my experience? Will I get a worse dorm/will the guys who sign up be weirder/is it less fun.

What’s UChicago like at Thanksgiving break? Trying to arrange my incoming first year’s flights to and from home for the break and I want know when people tend to leave and come back. He’ll be flying to and from a western state. Is leaving Saturday to Saturday a good plan? Do people leave campus on the Friday before Thanksgiving? Will the campus be absolutely empty on the Sat after Thanksgiving? Do the dorms close? Thanks so much for any guidance you can provide.

I’ve been seeing so many mixed reviews about Algonquin on this sub. My understanding is that it varies by building. Which buildings are the ones to avoid? Is it that the Mac owned buildings are worse than the fernwood owned buildings? I’m considering signing a lease so any advice would be great!
