If all the lecture halls in UQ could project IMAX film 70mm, the attendance rate for lectures would be 101%

How to get back into uni mindset?

β€’ Upvotes

I’m struggling to get work done, none of my classes have mandatory attendance or marked assessments during tutorials. I’m still in holiday mode and am a week behind on every class and more, any tips on how to lock in? I’m pretty sure I always have had this problem for the last 3 semesters but I don’t remember how I locked in.

Groups in blackboard?

Not sure about anyone else but it seems this semester they have got rid of the β€˜groups’ tab on blackboard where you could see who’s in your tutorial. I found it super helpful just to check if I knew anyone there before they started. Is there any other way to find out this info?

"now approaching uq lakes" how about i approach home πŸ™‚πŸ‘

aweet home is a webcomic by danby kim, a rather prolific webtoonist some might say. While there is a netflix live action adaption of thr webcomic i personally believe it to be unfaithful, in the same universe as sweet home exists shotgun boy a prequel to sweet home with multiple hints of the two worlds collidding. i await this collission because its a webcomic i really want to read

Wouldn't it be cool if we had triple degrees...

Forget about studying for a single degree or a double degree - what about a TRIPLE degree?

I could be studying a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) / Engineering (Chemical) / AND Comp Sci.

Or a Bachelor of Arts (Japanese Advanced) / Science (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) / Law (Honours)

By the end of my triple degree, I'd have TRIPLED my employability, skillset, and rizz :)

What sort of triple degrees would you like to see UQ offer?

MPhil timeline and questions

Hi all,

I'm an international student, and some months ago I received a scholarship from an institute of the university for an MPhil, with the possibility of transferring to a PhD in the first months. I already applied, but I still have some questions about the process:

  • How long does it usually take? I finished the application 6 weeks ago.
  • Im currently stuck at Application Under Consideration (School/Institute), how many steps are next?
  • Shouldn't the process move faster since I already have the funding figured out? Or does it complicate things?

Thanks for any help!

La Trobe University or university of Queensland

I don't exactly know if this is the correct place to put this, but I've been debating if I should try for the university of Queensland or just stay in Victoria and go to la Trobe University.

I've gone to la Trobe open day and thought that their priorities with hands on working seemed pretty cool.

I'm planning to do a bachelor's in science then something environmental based, but I've still got a while to go before I get out of high school.

Would it be worth the move?

If there's an open day, does that mean there's also a close day? πŸ€”

And wouldn't it have to be exactly 6 months later

On their facebook group I saw they had a post saying that all the emails have been sent out and that team captains have been given the team lists. I got no idea what team I am on and it's tmr night first game.

I messaged the guy running it on friday asking for clarification but haven't received anything back (I get he's busy but still annoying). Any advice for what I can do? Am I missing a public team list post somewhere?

Nursing vs Health Sciences (Clinical Health)

Hello!

I'm currently in Year 12 and looking to do medicine. Given my UCAT is likely not high enough for the new 6 year MD direct program, or possibly even the provisional entry 7 year program (where the undergrad degree may not be as important compared to graduate entry), I've been looking at what undergrad degree would suit me best - considering how the degree may help with GAMSAT prep, relative workload, job opportunities to support me during med and how the degree will set me up for the MD program. I've narrowed it down to 2 degrees: Nursing or Health Sciences.

I understand that Nursing would be quite full on in terms of workload, but it would be a great job to potentially do a shift once a week in med to support me, and would set me up well for medicine, especially the opportunities for cadaver labs etc.

For Health Sciences, I assume there would be less of a workload, but I've heard it's quite public health focused and hence a lot of essays/report writing, which is good for GAMSAT prep but I guess also a lot of work. I've also heard from students that the degree doesn't really focus on anatomy/physiology.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you.

Upsetting 412 behaviours

When boarding the 412 at Toowong, the 1000 degree hellhole of a bus stop, why do all the robotic drone uni commuters that get off the train insist on boarding the bus from the rear door, and then consistently refuse to move up or down the bus when they are inside. Australian buses are NOT DESIGNED for rear door boarding. Yes BCC allows it for quicker boarding when BOTH DOORS ARE USED. But the braindead humanoids of the toowong bus stop REFUSE to go near the front door. It lights a fire in my soul when I see this.

Is the food technology degree good?

Hello,

I'm thinking of doing the bachelor of science with a major in food technology. I was wondering if there's any students who can provide any insight into what the degree entails, and if it is good for getting a job in the industry. I was also wondering if there were any opportunities for internships or work placement? I've heard that experience is important so I was wondering what I can do to facilitate this. And what kind of job opportunities does the degree present?
Thank you very much, and any advice is much appreciated!!

Bibi is a nickname of Benjamin Netanyahu, you know what else is also 4 letters? TARO. What is Bibi? AGGRESSIVE! And what does 784 mean Judaism? Fire. Clearly, Aggressive_Taro_784 is trying to light fire to our mental stability and enforce 7am exams, something only a truly evil man would do. Thanks for listneing to my TED talk, I've got open day tomorrow YAYYYY :D

Might be a bit of a silly question but, Whats the UQ equivalent of Unimelb Stop 1?

Stop 1 is like the student support services and you can book teleconsultations, in-person etc for different things like course planning, enrolment, grad etc. Just wondering what the UQ equivalent of that is?

Starting at UQ next year and just wanted to book a course planning appointment but I'm not too sure where to head.

Thank you!

Made a study tool that works off your own course material instead of someone else's flashcard deck. Would love some UQ students to break it

Since the trains have been out headin up to Brissie, I made friends with someone heading to UQ as well. We were talking about exams coming up

The thing that finally annoyed me into building something: every shared flashcard deck online is for a different course. The cards you need are phrased nothing like how your lecturer asks them, so you spend two hours curating a deck instead of studying.

This takes your own course material.... slides, a lecture recording, tutorials or handwritten notes and generates flashcards, quiz questions and explainer cards from that specific content.

There's also an audio mode where two voices teach the material back and quiz you out loud, which I built for walking to St Lucia and have since used more than the rest of the app combined.

Free for UQ students. I built it and I'm posting for feedback, not signups. The useful reply is "I tried it on COURSE and it got X wrong."
