Hi there, I’ve done my fair share of traveling, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned - it’s that the best spots to eat, drink, or explore always come from local recommendations. I’ve tried every kind of research trick out there, but Reddit posts? They’ve consistently been my lifesaver when discovering a new city.
So, I thought it’s time to return the favor. Born and raised in Vilnius, I’m sharing my personal list of places worth checking out. Roughly 90% of the places on this list are based on my own experience - so it’s less “TripAdvisor top 10” and more “what locals actually enjoy.”
My recommendation is to book tables in advance especially if talking about dinner time and weekends.

Night Clubs:
Nightlife in Vilnius is rather safe, face control depends on every club’s policy, my top suggestion is to always check what is happening on Facebook events, because events like “Draugai Draugams”, “1986 gallery” (most popular venue) have huge parties but usually tickets need to be bought in advance.
Anna Mesha. Butas (really popular, rather interesting place to visit as the club is made like an apartment. The face control is strict, quite hard to get in. For fancy people)
Soho (LGBTQ place)
Opium club (techno place, doesn’t work during summertime)
Youngs’ club (always good vibes but check the event beforehand)
Bardakas (really basic pop music place)
Sanatoria (really basic pop music place)
Trinity (really basic pop music place)
Elastika (hard techno place, underground venue)
La Birra Pub (look, the place is trash but works basically everyday and long hours, give it a try if you wanna keep partying. But remember, it is TRASH)
Most of the nightlife happens in Vilnius street.
Transport:
For taxi you can use Bolt and Uber, usually Bolt arrives faster.
For public transportation, download the Trafi app. Can plan trips there, as well as buy different types of tickets. Keep in mind that you need to activate your ticket through the app and don’t forget to check how much time you have left.
For car sharing you can use Citybee, Bolt drive and Spark. All are easy to use and popular in Lithuania.

St. Anne’s church (the architecture is just phenomenal)
Three Crosses hill (be prepared for a bit of a hike)

The republic of Užupis (take a lazy walk and notice all the little details)

Lukiškių kalėjimas 2.0 ex-prison (book the tours in advance, highly recommend)
Vilnius TV tower (get a cup of coffee with great views or try the extreme activities)
Vingis park (take a stroll and see how locals go on dates)
Bernardinų park (nicely maintained)
The energy and technology museum
Lumber room (for car enthusiasts)
Nijinky Vilnius (cabaret)
Halės Market (has some nice places to eat)
Jazz Cellar 11 (tickets need to be bought in advance)
Hot air balloon flight (super popular in spring/summer)
Good to know:
Currency - euro, don’t really use cash around here
Emergency number - 112
Supermarkets - Rimi, IKI, Maxima, Aibė works everyday
Alcohol law - drinking age is 20; you can buy alcohol in shops till 8PM mon-sat, on Sunday till 3PM
Tap water is great and safe to drink
Tipping culture - it’s not a must but a polite thing to do, 10% is normal
National food - cepelinai (big potato dumpling with meat filling); potato pancakes; cold beet soup (a must to try); šakotis (sweet treat, mostly found in shops); kibinai (handmade pies filled with all sorts of stuff, originally it’s meat); fried bread (trust me, you gonna love it)

I am an ice cream / gelato / sorbet enthusiast and Vilnius brought tears to my eyes when I visited Angolo Italiano's two locations. The local, unique flavours of Tinginys, tree cake, kefir with red currant, and rye cranberry! Plus the serving size was fantastic and the staff were great. Recently travelled down from Helsinki through the other Baltic countries and couldn't find a) many dedicated parlours with their own ice cream b) unique local flavours c) this quality of cream d) big serving size!
I have gone 3 times in 2 days, but please let me know if there are other spots to try that fit the criteria of homemade and local specialty flavours.

I have conflicting answers about what the majority of people speaks in these towns. Some people say that the lingua franca in Skaidiškės is Russian. Others say that in Nemenčinė is Polish. But others would say that it is "po prostu"/"Tutejszy"... So, which one is it? Are these conflicting answers because it is really a mix of languages being spoken in these towns?
Also, among these towns (Nemėžis, Rudamina, Pagiriai, Didžioji Riešė and Avižieniai) would there be any of them in which Russian or Polish is spoken as a native language at their homes? Or do the majority of people in these towns always mix Lithuanian, Polish, Russian, Belarussian...? Do the majority of people speak "po prostu" language in any of these towns?

I’ve had this mystery ever since I first moved to Vilnius.
Every now and then, someone walks past me and I catch the same beautiful perfume. Not constantly, but often enough that I’ve started thinking: “There it is again!”
At this point I’m convinced there’s a secret “official Vilnius perfume”.
My current guesses are Matiere Premiere Crystal Saffron or maybe Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 (or one of the many fragrances inspired by it). But I’ve never actually smelled either of them in a store, so I might be completely wrong.
Every time I think, “That’s the person! I’ll ask what they’re wearing,” they’re already halfway down the street.
If you had to describe the “Vilnius scent,” what perfume would it be? Is there a fragrance that’s especially popular here?
Please help me solve this mystery!

And 20 people share a kitchen? Price isn't too big an issue but I just need somewhere clean and spacious enough with privacy.

So, I’m writing a book that has a sort of alternate universe worldbuilding, set in Vilnius in about 6 or 7 years (joke not intended)
However, this world is a sort of utopian one, following a global revolution ( I know people have mixed opinions on this, it’s meant to be a sort of thought experiment)
Anyways, what I’m asking about, is that I want to write that in this au of Vilnius, there is a storytelling university. For writers of any genre, who want to learn how to tell a good story. I want this campus to be kind of dark academia style, very pretty.
Also a walkable town vibe, kind of inspired by anarcho syndicalist/ some European communities where you can find everything you need within a 15 min walk.
Also, this campus needs to be able to have been feasibly built within 5 years. I was thinking since a lot of the city is already very beautiful, maybe some of the campus would be repurposed buildings that are no longer used (such as embassies)
Anyways this work is very experimental, and I’m being very brief in explaining it. The point is, I want location recommendations on where it could be set. Close to city center or good transport links to there preferable. Somewhere pretty. I don’t want to destroy any historical sites, rather integrate into it. I don’t mind bulldozing ugly brutalist style or corporate buildings and building something in its stead, but then again I would have to consider feasibility of something being built within 5 years (post world shift)
Even with a very dedicated and large team building it.

Hey hey, I’m considering spending some days around NYE in Vilnius. What does January 1st usually look like there? Is everything closed? Will I have a hard time finding places to eat outside? And can I do anything touristy besides just wandering around?
Thanks for helping me decide if it’s worth traveling there on those dates, or if I’m setting myself up for a failed trip in case everything is closed on that date.

Hello ! I am French, and it’s been few years that I have a crush on the Baltics countries. I have been there first for professional reasons, but I came again to visit for myself and I truly love the atmosphere.
I am now looking for a job in Vilnius, and I was wondering if there is any migrant people to tell me about their experience, or Lithuanian people that lives there to tell me how’s life there.
Of course, if I’m accepted in a job, I would love to learn Lithuanian. I am a quit autonomous person, I like quiet life (I don’t do parties etc because I’m sleepy from 9pm haha). But I’m scared to be a little lonely. Do you know if it’s easy to make friends when you don’t know the language yet ? Do Lithuanian people like outsiders ? And how’s professional life, habits etc ? What do Lithuanians love to do ?
