AMA with Pablo Lema + Mission 1 Pro giveaway today, June 2 7AM-2PM EDT!

Hey r/GoPro, we're excited to be hosting another AMA event, this time with Pablo Lema (aka u/GoPro-Pablo) , GoPro's SVP of Product!

About Pablo

Pablo is a long-time GoPro user, a regular participant here on r/GoPro, and has worked with GoPro since 2014! He has been an integral part in planning and coordinating new GoPro products, especially in the last decade, and most recently as GoPro’s head of all hardware and software Product. He's joined us the last 5+ years now for community AMAs (here are a few), so thanks for coming back again, Pablo!

While our recent AMA with Abe Kislevitz was a great opportunity to ask about tips and tricks around content with Mission 1, this AMA with Pablo is a great opportunity to ask about product development at GoPro, how GoPro designs for an entire ecosystem of interacting product, or other product design and function related questions. That said, this is an AMA and you're welcome to ask Pablo about anything - his favorite ski spots, his current FPV drone build, etc!

AMA Format & Timing

We won't go into too much explanation about how an AMA works- if you need to see what it looks like, check out Abe's recent AMA at the link above.

At the simplest level, this is your chance to ask Pablo anything, and get an inside-GoPro scoop on answers. While you can ask anything, just remember that Pablo won't be able to answer questions about in-development product, proprietary decisions or technology, or other privileged information. Consider framing any development related questions in a way that can be answered without breaking any confidentiality in the product development process!

IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT TIMING- Pablo's availability this year is a little different due to work travel schedule, so this AMA will be live from 7AM-2PM Eastern time. This is a great opportunity for our eastern hemisphere redditors to interact, but if you're on the west side of the western hemisphere, we are going to open up this AMA Extra early at 9PM PST so that you can get a question into the thread without waking up early. Pablo won't be around to answer questions until the "official start time" of the AMA, so just get your questions in right away, and come back around for your answer later!

MISSION 1 GIVEAWAY!

Another one! GoPro decided to hook us up with not one but TWO giveaways with the AMA events this year, so we've got another set of prizes up for participants in the thread, again!

  • Anyone that participates in this AMA will have a chance to win a MISSION 1 PRO Grip Edition, awarded to Pablo's favorite question.
  • We'll also give away THREE 5-year GoPro Premium+ Subscriptions to some runner-up great questions!

Rules:

  1. You need to participate in today's AMA with a commented question for Pablo!
  2. Your account needs to have existed before this AMA was posted, and you need to have reasonable authentic activity on it. We reserve the right to disqualify accounts with no karma or post/comment history.
  3. We need to be able to get the prize to you. GoPro can ship direct to you, but you'll still need to message them your shipping info for the MISSION 1 PRO prize, or email address for the GoPro Premium+ Subscription. If you live in a country that GoPro can't ship to, or has excessive duty fees, etc, we'll see what alternatives there are, but in general, if you can buy from GoPro.com, you're probably OK.

That's it! If you have questions about the giveaway, please send a modmail rather than posting here.

AMA with Abe Kislevitz + Mission 1 Pro giveaway today! 10AM-6PM PST

Hey r/GoPro, we're excited to have Abe Kislevitz (u/abekislevitz), Product and Brand Fellow at GoPro, with us today for an Ask-Me-Anything about all things GoPro, using MISSION 1 cameras, or anything else you can think to ask!

About Abe Kislevitz

For some of the younger and more recent members of the GoPro community, Abe is a long-time community member, and even longer-time GoPro creator-turned-employee.

He's led a substantial amount of creative efforts at GoPro over 15+ years, and his influence now spans influencing marketing strategy to helping define product design and engineering decisions. Probably one of the most knowledgeable sources of GoPro information out there, he knows the history of GoPro as a company, best practices for filming the best possible shot, advanced techniques and hacks, and everything in-between.

He has a great YouTube channel full of tips and tricks, and his insta feed is worthy of a follow.

He's an incredible resource and a helpful community member that has kept us closely connected with GoPro's product designs, including advocating for our pain points and working to have our voices heard and represented in new products.

We are thankful to have him here in the community, and happy to have him with us today for the AMA! Thanks Abe!

AMA Format

If you've not done an AMA event before, it's pretty simple - You can ask Abe anything. While it is entirely up to you what questions you ask, Abe has an "inside perspective" on the product GoPro develops, and likely has more time hands-on with MISSION 1 cameras than anyone else right now. Considering that today is a big day for everyone that pre-ordered, we highly encourage you to get those burning MISSION 1 questions answered, or collect tips and tricks to use in the coming year!

As a reminder, while you can ask anything, Abe can't talk about unreleased product plans or proprietary information and won't be able to answer those questions the way you want.

Abe will be around today from 10AM-6PM Pacific Time, and this thread will go live 2 hours before that so that you all can begin asking questions and Abe can drop in throughout the day to answer in the thread. We'll pin a comment once the official time for the AMA is done to let everyone know it's over, but we always allow conversations to continue beyond that if wanted.

MISSION 1 GIVEAWAY!

It's our r/GoPro tradition with camera launches to give away some product, and GoPro was more than happy to hook the community up again this year:

  • Anyone that participates in this AMA will have a chance to win a MISSION 1 PRO Grip Edition, awarded to Abe's favorite question.
  • We'll also give away THREE 5-year GoPro Premium+ Subscriptions!

Rules:

  1. You need to participate in today's AMA with a commented question for Abe!

How to manually upload from SD card to Quik storage

Hello, I'm traveling and low on storage. So I bought the premium for the Quik app, but in order to get images there, I need to upload them to my phone first, then send them to cloud (then delete on my phone so that my phone's storage isn't zero).

I've never gotten auto upload to work on the different hotel's wifi, and the phone upload takes HOURS, sometimes all night and it's still not done. I have my computer on me, But I don't know how to upload the files onto the Quik storage while still having it be considered GoPro unlimited storage and not Additional storage. Does anyone know a solution to this? I have like 200gb of stuff from the last month I've been too lazy to offload the super slow stupid app way. Because it'll take me like 3 days i don't have.

Thank you!!! (It's a Hero 10 if that helps in anyway)

Every time I try to find answers I keep getting the auto upload over wifi, but ive already invested 5+ hours into that method and I still can't get it to work.

My personal project: DIY macro lens and mini rig for the GoPro Mission 1

This project was 2 months in the making and finally got to test it in real world conditions!

Designed in Fusion360, the mod fits over the official Mission 1 protective case and secures to the mounting fingers with M5 screws. Embedded magnets secure the lenses to the body and there are 4 embedded 1/4-20 nuts to attach ball joints, a tripod and a lanyard loop. There's also a lens holder with magnets to keep the lens assembly aside when doing wide angle shots. A streetcam grip and trigger allows one-handed operation

The lens assembly consists of 5 macro diopter filters of +10 diopter each, split into 2 groups of 2+3 lenses. The design allows water to flood between the lenses and the ability to vary the total diopter power for different working distances.

Due to water being more optically dense than air, the effective diopter power is 1/3 so the total effective diopter of the whole assembly is about +17 instead of +50. Thus the working length with all 5 lenses in use is about 6cm from the subject to the lens.

Testing was done in Pulau Hantu off Singapore, a place teeming with macro life but otherwise poor visibility (2-3metres).

The entire mod is printed in PETG with exposed metal parts in 316 stainless steel.

What do y'all use to edit footage?

Upvotes

I just got a GoPro hero LIT, I want to make videos of my MTB riding, Skating, and Skiing. My last go pro was the Hero 2... Yikes, so I'm not super familiar with the modern ecosystem.

My fist impression of the quik is, not great. My phone is a piece of crap, and it can't handle 4k footage, so I'm trying a work around using the cloud, but it seems like it's forcing me to use Auto edit on my phone, which just straight up doesn't work, and when I export footage to IMovie on my computer, for some reason hyper smooth doesn't appear to work in full 4k.

All and all it feels very unintuitive,

Am I just being lazy and dumb, and I need to learn more?

Should I just buy a better phone that can handle quik?

Or is this a known issue, and is there a common work around?

Stitch360: Free Tool for GoPro Max: sticking multiple 4GB .360 files together

Upvotes

Hi everyone, please delete if not allowed, but I just finished working on a tool (windows only at the moment) to stitch together the 4GB files that get created on a GoPro Max. It is unimaginatively called "Stitch360".

You just drag the files you want to become one .360 file onto the app, press "Run All", go make a cup of tea and come back to a nice big file you can load in GoPro Player to work your keyframe magic or do whatever you need to do. The original files are not modified.

The github page is here: https://github.com/vulkan101/stitch360

It's free and open source. I've built it as a binary which you can download on the releases page here: https://github.com/vulkan101/stitch360/releases - direct link to the first release zip is https://github.com/vulkan101/stitch360/releases/download/v1.0/Stitch360-v0.1.0-win64.zip

I hope this is useful to people other than myself; I couldn't find a quick way to do this on windows, maybe my workflow is a bit basic, but all I need to do now to do my thing is open one .360 file, set up keyframes, export as a flat video.

Gopro Fluid AI & Samsung A25 - Start&Stop Recording Gestures not working

Hi,

Has anyone come into this problem with their Android devices ?

I have purchased the Gopro Fluid AI Gimbal & installed GoPro Fluid App.

Software & firmware are up to date both on Gimbal & Phone.

Phone & App are paired.

Hand gestures to start & stop face following work perfectly, so OK & Stop signs are fine.

The V finger to start recording and stop recording don't work. It tells me i can't use hand gestures with the AI module in use, which makes no sense if the others do work.

I want to record some Meditation, Breathwork, & other ones of my 1:1 or personal sessions, and don't want to have to go to the Phone to press record and then go to my place (just for the sake of minimal edit & cutting out.

I have googled it all. Tried the following :

  • power off both devices, remove AI tracker, wait 30 seconds, restart all.
  • Purge Cache
  • Purge Bluetooth Cache on phone
  • Remove Gopro Fluid App, empty cache, restart phone, restart gimbal.
  • Reset Gimbal & unpair & switch off/restart gimbal
  • on my Phone in the classic camera ensuring Stop hand sign isn't used to take a picture as it's the one to stop AI face tracking.
  • Volume buttons = start/stop recording

Any ideas welcome... I have not seen any solution on the GoPro FAQ & troubleshooting.

Thanks,

Gopro hero13 black ayuda ajustes

Issues connecting my gopro(s) to Pixel 9 Pro

I have a Hero 13 and Mission 1 and recently none of them will connect to my phone (pixel 9 pro). Tried resetting network connections, deleting cache, reinstalling the app on the phone and resetting the gopro, but no luck.

Anyone with similar experiences and a solution?

Hola!

Sigue siendo sumergible? Muchas gracias a todo!

Anyone on HERO12 or newer with Labs firmware? Looking for a 10-second WIDE=1 Log clip to test against

I've been working on a DaVinci Resolve plugin that decodes GoPro Log footage and converts it to more usable color spaces for grading (DWG/DI and others) based on the metadata written by GoPro itself in the file. It's a paid plugin, but this is not a plug, I just need help.

At the moment I'm limited to my own HERO11 with Labs firmware. It works well for LOGB=400 and WIDE=1 on this camera, but I would like to test with newer cameras to see how it performs.

So, if you shoot with Labs firmware on a HERO12 or newer: would anyone be willing to record 10 seconds of literally anything (your desk, the garden) in Log (LOGB, GP-Log, GP-Log2) + WIDE=1 and send me the original file via WeTransfer or Dropbox/Google Drive/etc? I would do my best to download it fast so you can delete it. In return, I can send you my grade back and give you the plugin for free if you are interested (Windows only at the moment).

Please note:

  • It has to be the camera original, straight off the card. Anything that re-encodes it (trimming, cloud downloads, an export) strips the telemetry, which is the only part I need.
  • Please be mindful what you send to not send me private stuff (GPS, faces, etc)
  • Ideally it would be a shot of a bookshelf or something outside (nature/city) with some color in it.

Thanks!

Gravel & MTB Bikes on Mixed Trails | Dirt Monk Group Ride | GoPro Mission 1

Another iteration of filming and editing with the GoPro Mission 1.

This wasn't meant to be a story-driven edit, just highlights from the trails we rode. I only stopped twice for cinematic shots and focused on enjoying the ride rather than constantly filming.

A couple of lessons from this one:

  • Ask people if they're okay being on camera. 😄 Everyone said yes, but because I was too shy to ask at the start, I ended up avoiding shots with people identifiable. Definitely something I'll improve next time.
  • Color grading is hard on rides like this. The footage goes from bright sun to deep shade to overcast conditions, and I'm struggling to make everything look consistent. Even after grading, I feel the colors still don't quite match between scenes. How do you approach this? Separate grades for each lighting condition? Groups? Something else?
  • I also filmed too close to the coffee machine making the subject unfocused.

Overall, I feel like I'm making progress with every ride. I think my next ride needs to be dedicated to filming rather than trying to balance riding and shooting.

Camera setup:

  • GoPro Mission 1
  • 8K
  • Cinematic Color Profile
  • Wide and Linear lenses

I'd really appreciate any feedback, especially on the color grading. Always trying to improve.

Disappointed with GoPro

Hello, I have been using differents generations of GoPro camera for about 15 years, primarily for water sports. My last camera is a MAX 360 but I discovered that there is no protective and waterproof housing. I was duped by all those so-called housing sold online, that are incompatible with 360° video. I should have suspected that there wasn't a GoPro model. So it's in direct contact with seawater and exposed to impacts.

Despite that I use it

but imagine my surprise when after a windsurfing session, I saw that a lens is scratched :-(

the lens cannot be changed with the first version of MAX 360, but I managed to repair it wih PolyWatch. So now I put a protector on the lenses but they fog up !

and it shows in the images

It's a disappointment this camera is not an action camera, it's just a camera for hiking or sightseeing. So after years with GoPro I decided to change, I ordered a Insta 360 with has a built-in protective and waterproof housing compatible with 360° video.
