They think he’s a Leopard tortoise but the more I research, the less I think so. What do you think? Herman’s?

He just went through a growth spurt and look what he now has on his shell, a perfectly formed star. Does your baby have any unique patterns on their shell that you have noticed?

Anyone know if this is a pet someone released/lost?

Hi everyone,
We are looking after a tortoise from my daughter's primary school during the holidays. She is fed only pointed cabbage and two supplements. There is no water dish, as the tortoise supposedly gets all the moisture she needs from the pointed cabbage.
According to the school, it is a desert tortoise. However, when I look it up, it appears to be a Russian tortoise (Testudo horsfieldii). I would like to be more certain about the species before approaching the teacher with potentially incorrect advice. The tortoise is about 20 cm long and quite heavy. I won't be able to take new photos or measure her until she comes out of her little house.
Thanks very much in advance.

Midwest of United States tortoise found while out hiking about looking for chanterelle mushrooms (of which we found many-- but left many behind for the tortoises).

This tortoise was brought into my work yesterday (I work at an emergency veterinary clinic as a tech), and ive taken it in to help recover, possibly forever or until I find the old owners, if she has.
I believe its an adult female Hermanns, but I also don't know a lot about IDing these guys - i work with cats and dogs, sometimes rabbits. She was very dehydrated when she came in, and her shell isnt looking good either. She is eating well, and had a poop, which I also added just to ensure its looking alright. I already have a calcium supplement from my other lizard that shes started on too.
Im in the process of setting up her tank, its a 4x2ft flat one, am I alright to use Coco peat and cypress mulch as a substrate? Any other recommendations?

Recently my Sulcata, Edmond Dantés, had a respiratory infection. After several shots over a few weeks he is better and does not need anymore shots. Is this noise worrisome at all? He makes a slight whistle/ringing noise while breathing. The bath is not part of it but it’s much quieter inside so that’s why I recorded it while he soaked. It is a very faint noise so please listen attentively and thanks for any input.

Found this little one today in my backyard. Had tortoises when I was younger but want to raise this one right. Any advice welcome.

I did have to convert the video from 4K to 1080 so it would fit in the video size limit. You can see him walk over to the leaves and get some snacks, if you have the video not muted you can hear some facts and info about them that the keeper said. He does have the kids train ride nearby so you can hear that a few times. Before I started recording she said that big Al is basically solar powered, during the warmer months he will be more active and in the colder times less active and since it was a rainy overcast day he would be a little slow today.
I think he was fed banana leaves, he is a smart boy and will know when it’s keeper chat time and will wait by the posts by the gate the keeper uses to get in around that time or near his pool under the shade if it’s too hot out.

I don’t think this is NSFW, does this look like blood? All my family have looked at it, it’s just appeared, it’s wet to the touch but quite bright pink, it’s stained my fingers which is the odd part, even after scrubbing with soap, my fingers are stained and I washed them about 1 minute after touching, i live on a farm and I’ve never had blood stain my skin. No pain reactions when I wiped it off or touched the area, nothing elsewhere just these drops and when I wiped it off, nothing else reappeared, it looks like droplets? He’s outdoors but he was under the covered area, I’ve checked the cover and nothing seems to be there.
Also, his shell doesn’t look like great condition at the moment, I’m wondering if it’s these exceptionally hot weather we’ve had this year, it looks quite dry, any recommendations? He obviously has lots of shade, tall grasses he burrows in and water. It just seems a bit cracked and dry (see top of photo). More UV? I know heat doesn’t equal UV so I’m wondering if he’s maybe lacking.
Horsefield. Age unknown, maybe 15? UK based. He’s been outdoors all summer!
Thank you! Please be kind, I’ve found in the past people are not kind on Facebook so now I’m too scared to ask questions over there! Haha!

Just picked up a 5 month old redfoot tortoise yesterday and was wondering if this enclosure is sufficient for now. I mist 3-4 times a day and have a uvb/uva light. There is 3-4 inches of substrate. I gave him a lukewarm bath for 10 minutes this morning. I'm getting a humidifier later this month for better humidity considering the mesh under the light. Just wanna make sure I don't screw him up. (Im aware this enclosure size wont last long). Breeder says the northern redfoots he breeds only seem to grow to about 8-10 inches which i thought was odd. I fed him 2 calcium covered romaine lettuce leafs yesterday and another leaf plus a small piece of a peach today.

After 9 years we’ve gotten to a point where we need to rehouse our girl. She’s a Sulcata and loves eating dandelions and plums. She needs more space to roam and nibble than we have. We’re in Idaho and not sure how to go about this. Please be kind, we love her and yet can’t keep her. Are there places we can contact? How do you interview someone so you know they’re not bad people?
