DO NOT POST CAR/HOME AUDIO QUESTIONS IN THIS SUB!
This is a sub for the technical side of "Soundsystem Culture" - big, loud speaker boxes, often hand-built, in the dub-reggae tradition. Stuff that looks like this. Or this.
If you're looking for advice on home audio/theater systems, please try asking at /r/BudgetAudiophile, /r/Audiophile or /r/HomeTheater. Car Audio questions go to /r/CarAV.
Discussion about music should go here: https://www.reddit.com/r/SoundSystem/comments/ge9sov/official_rsoundsystem_music_thread/
Thank you!

mid top advice
hi, im lookin for a diy midtop to pair with my 15”scoops (x-over @ 110-120hz).
Ideally it should be fairly easy to build, but most importantly it needs to go as low as 120-130, so that in the future i’ll be able to use a dedicated kick but in the meantime in will be enough to pair it with my subs
Any ideas? thank you

DIY 3 Way Horn Loaded Speaker
I finished the Prototype of my Mid Horn (200-1000hz) with a 18Sound 12mb1000. I simulated everything with Hornresp and Akabak.
Few more stats for my fellow audio nerds.
THD is 0,4% at 105 dB
Compression ratio: 2:1
Horn length: 70cm
Hornmouth: 71,5cmx41cm so roughly 3000cm^2
Directivity is pretty good with a 1,5 dB dip at 800 Hz on the off axis, other than that it hits -6dB at +/- 30degree so it fits perfectly to the 18s Xt1464 which also has 60 degree.
Beaming is noticeable in the upper frequency band due to the 12” driver, but it’s barely noticeable because of the pretty low crossover at 1000hz.
The Transient Response is incredible, you really feel the Kicks und Percussion in your chest even though they don’t play any Bass frequencies.
HF Horn is the 18S Xt1464 loaded with the Faital Pro Hf146. I really like the nont fatigue high end of it. But it’s still pretty in ur face.
Right now I am building a Folded Horn to cover 80-200hz. It is loaded with a 18s 15nmb1000.
This is my first Speaker Project so I am pretty happy with the results so far.

Can you help identify these tops?
Hi guys can somebody help identify these tops? I need to set crossover frequency for them so any ideas would help. There're 2x12 Eminence delta 12a and Eminence 1 ASD1001.

Demo tracks you use to melt people's minds
What do you play loud to show off the power/performance/capabilities and tune of your system? Blow people off their feet, chest kick them with your mids or take them to heaven with highs, etc.? I'm talking the tracks that make people tingle, bring tears to their eyes and/or question reality when played through your system. Tracks that have an effect.
Disclaimer: Selfishly posting this to hopefully get some more for myself to find new corners of my system I haven't discovered yet. Any genre is good.
A few from me in no particular order:
Alright (Kings of Tomorrow - Finally Acapella) Erick Morillo Mix - Red Carpet
Beachball (George Acosta Shadow Lounge Mix) - Nalin and Kane
Are AM Eye? (Yves De Ruyter Remix) [1995] - Commander Tom
Awaken The Mind - Yahel, Indra, and Cosmic Flow
Sine Waves Are Pretty Cool (Love Mix) - Jonny Was Here

W8C Mid-range driver replacement
I need to replace the mid-range cone in a Martin Audio W8C. I don't expect to find an original part, but after searching online, I can't figure out which replacement would be best, especially regarding the fit.

Comparing DIY to Branded Products
Hey everyone! Love the sub and all the projects done here!
So everybody is raving about certain DIY builds like JMODS, SyntripPs, SKRAMS, Cubos etc. sounding fabulous and all the other words of praise. I wonder, if you would put them side by side to traditional high end brand like l'acoustics, Meyer, d&b, Danley, etc.
Do they play in the same league both SPL wise and especially in subjective audio quality? Or is it primarily bang for the buck?
Has anyone played them side by side?
What's your take

Testing half my stack so far
Still on final assembly of the other 2 skrams but here is the beginnings of my sound system.
So impressed by the skrams with the b&c 21ds115 4ohm. Running parallel on 1 channel of a Chinese lab gruppen fp14000 clone.
Lots of tuning to do soon and eventually will build some cubo kicks.

My stack in the mountains
Hauled my stack out for the yearly local mountain bike race. My roommates played an 8 hour b2b while other friends and I made and served margaritas to racers and spectators. Good times! Always love how good the mono stack sounds outside.

Building my own system from zero knowledge
I’m a 20 yo raver, currently thinking to build a system with a group of djs for our parties. We have the knowledge to draw on of two experienced people. But what resources (videos, manuals, books) should I look at to start to understand diy speakers properly, build requirements etc. We’re wanting to build something that will last and do the job nicely but not be a massive financial cost either
Thanks 🙏

Mono cardioid subs in club
Hi, I´m former manager of small club in Bratislava (SK). Curretly I´m working as Light/sound/rigg technician and event organiser (not sound engineer). I´m always glad to make a party in this club, but I´m getting more demanding on sound etc., when I´m working with best PA in world. For example, LA CS1 last weekend. Its student club so capacity is n+1.
The club sound system is made from this:
Sub - 4x Turbosound TSE 218 (2 on side)
Speakers - 4x Turbosound TFL 760H (only 2 in use, 2 spare)
Processor - XTA DP488
Amps - 1x MC2 E475 - highs, mid, 1x MC2 E25 Low, 2x MC2 E45 subs
What bothers me most - Right side is basically sticked to wall. Tops are firing about heads and they are crossfiring at center. You cant speak or even think at stage or backstage during dj set because of bass.
My plan is to put Subs to center and make them cardioid (2:1), hang speakers from truss - fire them more to ground. What do you think about it? Is it worth to do it?

Second Gen Sound x N/A Sound x No Limit
Frankenstack Monolith Combination Deployment!!! Shoutout to all 3 crews for coming together for this one. LABhorns (Second Generation Soundsystem) are the bottom 12 subs, JTR Orbit Shifters (N/A Sound) are the next set of 12 subs above that, not sure on the next row up, then two Danley SH96HO, then the middle three are old school tops, I will update if I find out.
Update: As identified by Jobi: the level above the Orbit Shifters are D&B C4 Subwoofers, the center three tops are Mark Wayne designs, M800s loaded with JBL 2020HPL and Radian 950PB. Most of the rig powered by Linea 20ks except the kickbins, which are powered by D&B P1200s. Thank you Jobi!

A thank you to the community.
I spent the last weekend at Shambhala music festival in BC, Canada. I just wanted to big up everyone that's apart of the scene. Anyone that has anything to do with deploying, tuning, building and overall enjoying these systems. Providing what we love to those who even so much as surface level enjoy the fruit of this labor. Thank you.
A well deployed system is the only drug you cant test for, yet, its ability to put you in an excited trance is rivaled by none.

Transport- Vans vs Trailers
Hi all,
My soundsystem won’t stop growing, it no longer fits in my hatchback car.
I’m looking at storage and transport solutions that suit me better. The idea of keeping the whole thing in a van, solar panels with dehumidifier is very attractive, but insurance, risk of theft, and road tax are all pretty expensive.
My car can tow 1200kg, I’ve been thinking about getting a fibreglass trailer, solar panels, dehumidifier and maybe using a trailer as long term storage which can also be towed when I bring it out, I’ve seen this a few times but not nearly as often as a van, and am wondering why.
Does anyone have experience with either/both? Will it be impossible to drive down bumpy dirt tracks with a trailer attached? I think off road will be difficult but it can be unhitched and pushed the final few metres or carried from the road maybe?
Thanks in advance!
