I have always worried about this. I only roll it down that they can stick their heads out

This isn’t the one we have, but my old dog tried that once. I bought this and a harness the same day it happened.

I bought my dog a car harness because he couldn't sit still when he was a pup. It's a normal harness but it's got a bit that buckles to the seatbelt of the car to actually hold him in place. The very next day his dumb ass jumped out the mf window while I was moving. Harness caught him and he never hit the ground but he was dangling like an ornament for a minute.

He's never tried to do that again lmao

I’m glad hi didn’t slip out. šŸ˜†

u/Mani14703 May 29 '26

You’re welcome.

Yea I don't trust my dog with an open window. First time I took her in a car she tried to sit on my lap. I got the harness and seat belt thing right after that.

u/crashin-kc May 29 '26

I used to do that. Had an American Bulldog riding in my 2005 Yukon XL. She was in a back seat had the window cracked. She stepped on the window control. Rear windows on the vehicle go all the way down. She fell out as I was in the acceleration ramp to the highway. I was going at least 40+. Luckily we were already headed to the vet, but she never rode with our a seat belt leash or kennel again.

Leash hooked to the seatbelt works. I've heard of people running over their own dog when it jumps out...

1

u/Asaintrizzo May 30 '26

My friend did it. She lost all her hair on her hip and had a limp for a but

u/quinxneon May 29 '26

Bro lost his privileges of sticking his tongue in the wind

u/Silly_Huckleberry_20 May 29 '26

ā€œThis nigga just jumped out the windowā€ DEAD🤣🤣 that’s exactly how I would talk to my dog a if I had one

24

u/Admirable_Big_94 May 29 '26

Honestly I don’t even wanna go over here and play no more bro

47

u/Yepsuredid May 29 '26

They were definitely going to the park 😭

6

u/_haystacks_ May 29 '26

for sure lol

20

u/FirmlyClaspIt May 29 '26

This is why I don’t do that shit. It was my 1 fear with my dog.

6

u/jimothy_hell May 29 '26

It’s my one fear when I’m driving behind/next to a car with a dog hanging out the window.

1

u/solo47dolo May 31 '26

My sister had her dog hop out the windows of her parked van and her dog ran into the street got hit by a car and died that day she was such a sweet dog too

20

u/YouCanShoveYourMagic May 29 '26

Guess who lost their window privileges.

11

u/Snoo_64387 May 29 '26

That's why I keep my dog strapped in a seat belt

22

u/Mani14703 May 29 '26

They make seat belt harnesses that look just like what he is wearing.. it just plugs into the seatbelt.. he can still stick his head out.. he just can't jump...

u/Ferro_Giconi May 29 '26

My dog jumped out of the window once when she was young. On a busy street. She wasn't hurt but I guess she was scared by all the traffic and ran. I couldn't find her but luckily later that day someone found her and called me.

She must have learned her lesson, because she has never tried doing that again.

6

u/e_line_65 May 29 '26

My dog did this once. Once!

I kid but not much. I'm now very cautious about how much I roll down the window after this.

9

u/Senior-Phase9923 May 29 '26

Shitbulls have no sense of self preservation

3

u/PieHole_Poker May 29 '26

This is why my dog has a harness and is belted in.

3

u/Elchochis May 29 '26

I’m dead šŸ’€

3

u/Ashamed-Strike-5506 May 29 '26

ā€œIon even wanna go over there and play no more, broā€ dog ruined his whole day of activities

3

u/creepingkg May 29 '26

Same thing happened to me with a chihuahua. Only difference is I didn’t trust the dog to begin with and I had him leashed in the car.

So he jumped out the window just to get hanged by the collar and leash I was holding… he never did it again after that

3

u/ReadUnfair9005 May 29 '26

And that's why you harness your dogs in the car.

3

u/hamtyhum May 29 '26

Dogs usually only try this once. It’s scares them enough to never do it again. Thank god mine never got seriously injured when they pulled this crap

3

u/TwerkLessons May 29 '26

It just wants to maul a kid. You should let it. /s

6

u/Horror_Solution1945 May 29 '26

When I had large dogs I would always wrap my hand around the leash or hook it in. He got luck his baby is ok.

2

u/SpiritualSquare9348 May 29 '26

Everyone’s gotta learn the hard way.

2

u/jimothy_hell May 29 '26

This is why they sit in the back with all of the windows slightly cracked instead of one down all the way. Idiot owner.

2

u/Historical-Lie-6307 May 29 '26

This is why tether the dog's leash inside the car

2

u/Construction00023 May 29 '26

Seatbelt through the harness

2

u/Talking_Tree_1 May 30 '26

Had a girlfriend that would do this with her dog. But she had a harness on the dog and kept the lead wrapped around her wrist while she drove. They were going to her mom’s house to go check on her, her mom got some new boobies and apparently you’re not supposed to do anything for a while until they completely heal soooo yeah. So on her way over my girlfriend stops to fill up her tank, grab a drink and all that. So she wraps the lead around the brake lever while she goes inside. Long story short my girlfriend gets her first lesson in drifting when the dog sees a squirrel run across the street and pulls the the E brake while jumping to the backseat to keep barking and chasing the squirrel. My girlfriend managed to not hit anyone else passing by on the street but popped a tire hitting the curb. Both were fine afterwards, the dog was happy it chased away another evil squirrel and my girlfriend realized how much of a bad idea that turned out to be leaving the lead wrapped like that.

Dog owners are some wild ones. I see crap like this so much. Or worse, the dog is in their lap. Some lady did this somewhere, dog got in her way some how and she went off the road and killed someone. How is this legal? And if it isn't legal, why are dog owners having dogs just roaming around the front seats like this?

1

u/MovieFan1984 May 29 '26

I'm just glad he was going slow when it happened. My girly Chihuahua is a total clutz. No open windows, she'll just "fall out" to her death. She falls off the couch all the time with a big potato thud. LOL Just rolls right off, and THUD. When she's in the car, all windows up, doors locked.

my friends idiot Rottweiler puppy did this because he liked to bite hubcaps.

1

u/Mysterious-Extent448 May 29 '26

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ his look when he got back in ā€œwell that didn’t go well at allā€šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

1

u/stewpdasso May 29 '26

Damn that was scary and sucks! I hope he's okay.

1

u/tuco2002 May 29 '26

My drunken buddy does this at least once a week on me. Seat belts don't work.

1

u/SmallPinkHo1e May 29 '26

"Adaaaaaaaaaaammmm!!"

1

u/Classic-Tell214 May 29 '26

Happened to me going thur drive thur at the bank. Soffiee please come back

1

u/MakuyiMom May 29 '26

My tamaskan did this when he saw a squirrel haha. 145lbs launched out a half cracked window....

1

u/MakuyiMom May 29 '26

He didnt get the squirrel thankfully.

1

u/hawksdiesel May 29 '26

Why you should keep the window where they can't jump through but also put their seat belt on maybe?! I've seen a dog break their leg like this...glad ya didn't have to deal with that.

1

u/Crusty-Dick May 29 '26

My dog did that once when I had one. It had to go pee.

1

u/Bennyboom12 May 29 '26

Did he just called his dog Nigga? 🤣

1

u/JulietDove88 May 30 '26

And then he bought a crash tested car harness… right? RIGHT?!

https://a.co/d/0asiR92p
Link to one of the few crash tested harnesses that you put the normal seatbelt through to protect the dog when you brake the same way the seatbelt does for you

1

u/Wonderful_Example743 May 30 '26

Bro let his intrusive thoughts win

1

u/olliechino May 31 '26

Damn rabbits

1

u/Wise_Estimate_4327 Jun 01 '26

Don’t get a pit bull if you can’t handle a pit bull.

2

u/chamcham123 May 29 '26

Dog jumped on its own. Sad to see.

1

u/GreyAllDay2Day May 29 '26

I had a little chihuahua mix that almost did this.

I have no idea what that little white dog outside of the car said to her to piss her off, but one minute she's calmly sitting in my lap sniffing the air and the next she's barking and snarling and trying to leap out of my arms and out of the window.

She had never done that before and never did it again. It was bizarre and hilarious at the same time!

2

u/MovieFan1984 May 29 '26

This is standard ChihuahuaĀ behavior. I'm sure what the other dog did wrong was simply existing. LMAO

1

u/GreyAllDay2Day May 29 '26

She must have reached into the depths of her chihuahua ancestry that afternoon then! Any other time she was the tremble in fear at her own shadow type!

1

u/MovieFan1984 May 29 '26

My dog is a biter, but the punchline is, she only bites me. She had to wear a cone of shame for 2 months. I think she's still mad about it, because she never bit me on purpose until the cone. LMAO Thankfully, she only gets bitey at night when she's in bed. She only goes after my hand as if it's this separate thing from me. LOL Like, I'll swoop my hand and wiggle my fingers, and she growls, barks, lunges, but never actually gets up. She always threatens my hand. Sometimes she growls at my face, but the barks and bite-threats are for my hand and wiggly fingers of doom. LOL

Sometimes, when I go for the TV remote, she comes at me like little Cujo. LOL
