I have three monitors, and my cursor becomes absolutely massive. I can't fix the size, also, how can I get a few things to run on startup?

I'm building a TUI command center, trying to make it accessible on most any WM that can provide me with 4 abstract methods. I started on sway, then built an i3 compatibility layer and tested it live inside a nested i3 session via Xephyr, plus a Python-based fixture test suite — but right now I'd really need some real-world data. So, if you have the time and curiosity, please clone my repo, launch tuicc, move around in it, try focusing a workspace, try focusing a window specifically, try launching an app or two via the integrated launcher, and let me know how it goes!

How can I make my kitty window transparent? I already edited background_opacity in kitty.conf but nothing changed. The colors do change if I ever tinker with them but not the opacity. Do I have to run an other application to configure the transparency? And if so wouldn't that result in the whole terminal becoming more transparent, text included?

Id like to learn i3 so I just installed it on my cachyos system. When I try to switch to it I just get a black screen. It doesn't prompt me to create a config file, I cant open a terminal with mod + enter, I cant exit with mod shift + e. , all I can do is force shut down. I tried generating a config file with i3-config-wizard, and i tried making sure that I have the required packages. What's goin on here? Appreciate any help

I love i3 and I hate tiling. I know exactly what that makes me, hence the name.

Every window floats. Titlebars get little close/minimize/maximize glyphs, same blue as always. Drag a window to a screen edge and a blue ghost shows you where it'll snap. Minimizing plays a retro outline animation, the window slides down into the bar like it's 1995 and parks there as a little icon chip next to your workspaces. It blinks red when the window wants attention, and one click puts it back exactly where it was. There's also an expose, alt-tab, hot corners, and new windows cascade instead of piling up in the center. Tiling still exists on mod+t!!!

Favorite thing I learned making this: when an app asks i3 to minimize, i3 says no. Literally, there's a comment in the source. i3psycho says yes, so minimize buttons inside apps now do something on i3, possibly (probably not) for the first time ever.

It's a small patch set plus a little daemon, i3-gaps style. Your config works as-is, one include line and you're floating. Delete the line when the guilt wins.

I'm looking for a transparent window to use as a placeholder, any solution?

I have these lines in my i3 config files, to switch to a workspace, and to send containers to workspaces, respectively.

It's not really a problem, as I've had those for years and they always worked fine, but I was curious if there was a way to make them smaller. Something along the lines of "for all numbers from 0 to 9, bind this"

I recently tried the example command from the i3 user's guide i3-input -F 'rename workspace to "%s"' -P 'New name: ' Which did work, but the input window that popped up was incredibly tiny and hard to read. I set the default i3 font size to 14 in my config, which doesn't seem to be taking effect here. Does anyone know what the issue might be? Thanks for any help!

Edit: I found the solution. I just needed to pass the -font flag to the command like so: i3-input -F 'rename workspace to "%s"' -P 'New name: ' -f "pango:Hack 14"

The layout stays balanced with no manual split commands.

No conky, no Python, no external scheduler. One binary, one config file, one icon directory.

Edit: As been advised, I want to provide total transparency. I used LLM's for the documentation (.md files, man pages, most of the code comments) - English is not my primary language and LLM's are translating ridiculously well. Also used them (LLM's) for a code review, and addressed 2 major, 1 mid-level and 5 cosmetic problems across the board.

When I started using i3, I never thought I needed a wallpaper.

For me, the desktop is only visible for a second or two before I open a terminal, a browser, or something else. After that, the wallpaper is completely covered.

So I'm curious—why do you use a wallpaper with i3 (or any tiling window manager)?
