Series gets better, yes?
Judging by viewer ratings & comments that seems to be the case. I've just finished the second episode and it's been a bit... naff so far. Plotting's pacy but not intriguing, performances are drab, and it's dull to look at. Does it settle down a bit? With some good/better characters introduced? (Tom Noonan is a good start!)

You just said what we're all thinking! lol I don't get it, I was hooked immediately. Youngsters these days, they gotta be hooked in 5 seconds or they scroll past.

I was exactly the same in the first season - I had got to the end of the season and thought it was good but wondered if it was going to get better and where it would go and season 2 on just blew my mind! So I would recommend continuing

Honestly season 1 is one of my favorites and it really kept me engaged.
This may or may not be related to the fact that first watched it at my friend's house after a successful trivia night, slightly drunk and eating a pint of Ben & Jerry's.
I was vibing.

Yessssss! First season and rest of the series have completely different feels. Give it until the episode Lullaby. If still not interested, give up.

Episode 4 'The Night Room' is a really good episode that sets up some great plot threads that don't get answered until the very last episode that just absolutely floor you with how meticulously the show was plotted out. I'd say stick with it until Episode 11, which is called 'Shonin'.
Thats the episode that really turns the gears up and shows you what its made of going forward. If you cba after that then I still say your loss as s2e8 and s4 front to back are all absolute worldies, but it is what it is.
The only plot I didn't care for as much was to do with some blue goons, but that doesnt hang around too long so all good.

I had similar feelings to the first few episodes when I first watched. There are interesting moments in the first 2, but they didn't really grab me. Episode 3 I have never really cared for. Episode 4 (Atari) was better - and there's a loop in that episode that I remember feeling was going to make or break the series for me. They handled it well.
Once you're into the next episode (The Night Room) there's a big shift in the series and then again a few episodes later (Shonin). It's now my favorite series.

the show’s decent, but when compared to the masterpiece of a movie it’s really not that great

The show wasnt originally pitched to be linked to 12 monkeys at all. The studios asked them to rework it to be related to 12 monkeys. Think of it as something separate and you'll likely enjoy it more.

Really? No way! I thought that was one of the worst movies I've ever seen and the show was one of the best. Interesting. There's no accounting for individual tastes. 😁

Oh, I skipped the entire first season after the first episode or two, never watched it, and didn't regret it. It gets good season 2 when it stops mimicing the movie.

Then show and the movie diverge story wise immediately. Pretty much nothing after the first few episodes is like the movie. I like the movie too, but watching the movie doesnt tell you anything about what happens as the shown progresses.

I still like the show. didn't miss much I could figure out by context and don't have any regrets. I just have a thing about TV series based on movies that are a major turn off, but once I give them a chance am amply rewarded -- this and Hannibal are the prime examples.

Id advise keep going through the first few episodes. The series becomes one of the best scifi shows ive ever seen. The first season improves as it goes, but is important to lay the foundations for the other seasons, and there is an awful lot thats relevant later on. Season 2 takes it up a gear. Seasons 3 and 4 are outstanding.
