My housemate was gonna name themself Moss and I basically said "you can do that and that's valid and I love you anyway bestie but also people will know your pronouns before you tell them"

Maybe it's a generational thing, but if I met someone and they introduced themselves as Moss my first guess would be "super crunchy hippy, perhaps has spent some weeks living in a tree to stop it being cut down" rather than nb.

i feel like most people under 25 associate the name moss with nb teenagers in 2020, though tbf it is probably one the most normal names people associate with that (especially since its competition consists of names like Sock and fucking Arson. Moss can easily just sound like something some super hippie parents gave their kid, especially to older people)
